Anybody else love the new color scheme? I think it looks fantastic and menacing.
Actually - as cool as it looks (and it does)...
How will they look in space? Unless any space battles in the movie occur with nebulae as a backdrop, they're going to be really hard to see clearly.
In a universe where eyesight is used in dogfights this makes sense (they're harder to "see"), but from a cinematic viewpoint ... it's a strange choice.
From a game view point, I'm not sure how good it will look either against a black play surface...
(And I believe they're not the only 'black' ships in the new movie either)

I'm not saying the standard TIE needs a fix - it is what it is ... a low attack swarmy fighter.
BUT
I for one would like to see more TIEs on the field in a non-swarm capacity... more specialised units perhaps.
In my ideal world we'd see a TIE Aces pack that contained a whole bunch of COMPELLING named pilots worth feilding on their own or in a very small swarm.
The miniatures? A blue-grey TIE a la the bomber/Interceptor/new advanced and a TIE with the Imperial logo on its wings.

What that fighter isn't, is a new ship that FFG can add to the Rebel line up. Oh well.
Still, as has already been said that Cruiser looks interesting.
Although judging by those butt-ugly original TIE Transport weird things they had in one episode of the first series, this may be a good thing...

The JJ Abrams Star Trek movies may have been bad TREK movies, but had the energy and fun factor of an OT Star Wars movie (particularly the first one), which may be "wrong" in a Trek context, but very suitable for a Star Wars sequel.Well there's that, and they hired JJ Abrams... look at what he did to Star Trek.
Of course if he makes a Star Wars movie with a Trek sensibility...

They give a preview of season 2 starting at around 8:45. They show a new squadron (Commander Sato and the Phoenix Squadron).
And the location of the new, huge Rebel base in season 2? My bet is it's on Lothal

Of course one of the characters will lampshade it saying something along the lines of "it's the perfect location - right under their noses on the same planet as their new munitions factory ... It's the last place they'd think to look"
/facepalm

Just wondering if anyone has had a chance to play this mission?
I've got a couple of friends coming over and as it's 3 player, it's a perfect fit ...
I'm the sole owner of all the x-wing kit, so I'll be setting up the squadrons beforehand.
Just wondering what sort of squadrons were fielded by those who have had a chance to play it...

I dunno. They've shown they work pretty close with the licensor. It is possible they've been in the know and had ship designs in the works for months. And big companies like to align the release dates of products to movies.
At the in-flight report there was mention of having models of unreleased material in the offices that licensors had been concerned about... of all the IP FFG has, surely this would have to be GW or Lucasfilm, and my bet would be on the latter.

Oh I see what you mean now.
And now I see what you meant - thanks for the clarification and sorry for the misunderstanding!

But let's look at the defender. The defender is already over costed by 3 points and does not dish out enough damage to give it any role or be a better choice than 2 and a half ties. Putting an additional cannon cost makes it even worse as you lose your main attack. Flèchette only does a max of 1 damage.
Mangler really isn't worth it. You lose your fourth die (you wouldn't use mangler at all) at R1.
Who's losing their main attack? That's only how cannons work with the Outrider.
Other ships can switch between their main or cannon as they see fit...

So, in the latest preview for the Star Wars RPG line, there's a prominent placement of a Rebel ship, the BTS-A2 H-wing.
Does this point to a future new release for the Rebels in X-Wing?

But based on the Scum and Villany interview with the designers the Gozanti is too small ... they very specifically said that qualifying ships would be in the 150 - 250 m rangeSo after 1,428 posts, we're back to what Joe Boss first put up on in Post #1.
The Imperial Gozanti-class freighter. The Vigil-class corvette.
In the same interview mentioned above the designers also said not to see what they did with Epic for Rebels as a precedent for what they will do with the Imperials...This would follow what FFG did for rebel alliance with a support ship/freighter and a warship.

Imperial possibles:
150m Storm Commando Escort Carrier
255m Vigil
My money's on these two

To quote the preview of IG-88:
"If you muster an army of Droids in a skirmish, cards like Overdrive grant them more actions than ever before."
What droids could these be? Probe Droids are Imperial so you couldn't legally field them with IG-88 in a skirmish match, so...
What non-Rebel, non-Imperial droids could we see in future expansions? Baring the appearance of prequel droids, I'm stumped ... but I'm not overly familiar with the EU - can anyone who is help me out here?

Oh wow this thread gives me hope!
I thought my 4 standard interceptors + another 4 from two aces sets was too much!
-
But it still looks like a party of highly elite individuals penetrating a complex and fighting a bunch of mooks whole trying to accomplish an objective based on some scenario.
Don't forget it's two games in one - there is the dungeon crawl-esque campaign game as mentioned above, AND there is the skirmish game where you point build squads and go head to head...
-
As 'cool' as a black X-Wing is, it's going to be really hard to see in space, which from a movie POV is a real pain - as I said in the other thread ... if we see this in space at all in the movie, it will be with a nebula backdrop.
Also when the FFG CEO was talking in the in-flight report about LFL 'pushing back' when their proposals hit something that crossed into new movie territory, I wonder if maybe they proposed coloured Rogue Squadron X-Wings and they got pushed back on because of this.
-
So... I wonder if anyone consulted with the VFX team before deciding to have a black X-Wing...
It won't be seeing any space-time in the movie without a Nebula for a backdrop...

In one of the Demo videos on BGG, it is mentioned by one of the FFG crew that the PCs in the scenario would normally be more experienced/levelled up... hopefully that also means they turned down the difficulty on the imperial side to match(!)
My biggest issue with Descent (both flavours) is that it never[\i] felt like a dungeon crawler - it had all the appearance of being one, but in the end, each map boiled down to a tactical puzzle that needed to be solved, particularly in the second one where everything was open and revealed from the get go there was none of the feeling of suspense, exploration, and looting that you would expect in a dungeon crawler.
Each level was a mission where the participants were all thoroughly briefed and able to strategise based on a meta level to 'crack' it.
If you replaced the monsters in descent with Nazis and the PCs with a crack troop of WWII veteran soldiers, it would've made more sense, heck you could even replace the monsters with Imperials from Star Wars and the PCs with Rebel heroes, and ... oh yeah...
I also found that it seemed easy for the players, once they 'grokked' the way the system worked ... HOWEVER ... this may work in favour of IA, if the game is fun enough for everyone to enjoy watching the rebels fight the Imperials in spite of overwhelming odds ... It's certainly more 'Star Wars'
In the scenario played in the demo, if the Rebels are all "wounded" then the next scenario is an escape from prison mission. "Wounded" in this case means being reduced to 0hp and having to "flip" your card over. None of the rebels ever die per se, they may be taken out of a given scenario, but they come back in the next one...

I don't think it's Greedo. I believe the game is supposed to be set after ANH so he should already be dead.
Also, the face reminds me more of a Duros than a Rodian. Trouble is, except for Cad Bane (which it's obviously not), I don't think I know any other famous Duros.
D'Oh! Of course you're right - what was I thinking! lol
On closer inspection I'd vote for a Duros too

Aaaaand with careful study of GenCon footage, looks like the Bothan PC is:
Mak Eshka'rey "The Spy"
I've edited my initial post above.
-
Why can't they ever do Luke with the award ceremony, awesome, yellow jacket?
Screw that - I want carbonite Han!
-
Just saw a video and here's what was on display during Gencon:
6 heroes (5 already known plus the Bothan)
3 Imperial Officer
9 Stormtrooper
2 Scout Trooper with Heavy Repeating Blaster
4 Imperial Guard
3 Probe Droid
1 AT-ST
4 Trandoshan slaver
2 Nexu
total: 34 miniatures
Plus Luke and Vader miniature pack
Total: 36 miniatures
Cool - thanks for that Red Castle! Care to share the link for the video? I'm hungry for more than the Covenant ones I've watched!
It's an interesting spread of minis from the skirmish game POV ... looks like it's wave 1 X-Wing again - a large but fragile Imperial force vs. a small but tougher rebel group. The stormtroopers even have a built in "Howlrunner" ability (re-roll 1 attack die when standing next to a fellow Stormtrooper) lol
I would have liked some generic Rebel soldiers, but more than happy to wait for the expansions...
