Ok, so there's what Yaldabaoth said - as you can see he did not say that the only way for a Carrion Lancer can go straight is with the march 3 modifier ... he stated that they can only March with the March 3 modifier. As to selecting an invalid modifier... yep definitely got my wires crossed there I honestly thought he suggested using an invalid modifier. My bad. Looks like you and I both need to follow your advice and "read what is being written"

My first 200-point army build (Daqan)

Ah, my bad ... I'm confusing the upgrade with "Figure Upgrade" which I guess is for Command Group/Hero type upgrades. Thanks for the clarification! -

What's even stranger in that situation is that if you defeated the sole remaining tray, i.e. the RuneGolem, he would be instantly replaced with a tray of Spearmen... Although, thinking about it, perhaps that makes the case for the Rune Golem continuing to use the Spearmen dial... -
That's not in dispute - in fact that was exactly what Yaldabaoth was proposing in the thread above. In fact he was specifically referring to invalid modifiers for the Carrion Lancer as they do not have a white modifier. I was merely pointing out that selecting a modifier does not seem to be optional, which Orcdruid was suggesting.

Really? The Rules As Written seem to say otherwise: Bolding mine.

You're so lucky - they are so cute! (at least before they've been skinned and cooked). Do you have much trouble with bagpipe spiders?
-
Wow - the figures are really tightly held on with those pegs ... given the effort it took for the demonstrator to remove the archer from the tray, I reckon he could've held the tray upside down and no pegged minis would have fallen (!) Also that Carrion Lancer paint scheme shows some serious Rune Golem envy!

Ummm... not what I meant at all Although, re-reading the text I don't think they way I took it was right either. To be clear I did not think that the rule was mandating the use of one core set. What I did think (incorrectly I now believe) is that if each player had only a core they were meant to bolster each others forces with matching units from the other players core lol *sigh*
-
Sure! It's all in the second paragraph of that box:
-
I had noticed that on a lot of the larger Descent minis, but not on the smaller ones ... if I was at home I would've checked before posting *sigh*

Nice to have a high enough quality video to be able to read some of the text: - Pre measuring is ok at any time with the range ruler, but not with the movement templates - Overlapping Obstacles, Enemy units and the board edge(!) works the same as overlapping enemy ships in X-Wing (you slide backwards along the movement template until you're touching) - You can only enter a terrain piece if the unit has equal or less trays than the Capacity value of the terrain piece - When attaching a hero to a unit, the figure simply replaces a "generic" figure, and when/if defeated is replaced by a generic figure. - Core Set only battles mandate using units from the other players core set and use special "Skirmish Rules" (sadly these are on page 21 of the rulebook - a page that they skipped)

I thought they were the same, more or less, but seeing the multi-part Ardus I'm curious. At the very least I expected it to be in line with the "larger" Descent scale (Descents scale changed to Heroic after a certain point in the line)... maybe it's larger...
-
I'm impressed that Ardus is a multi-part model ... I really thought he'd be the same figure as Descent with an extra hole in the base...

Question before Pre-ordering the game
maxam replied to Snugglebug's topic in Runewars Miniatures Game
They were quite specific from the start that RuneWars would not be following the X-Wing upgrade route. You will not have to buy expansions for factions you are not playing to get upgrades for the factions you are. -
Hot water worked a treat for me with the Descent figures ... although that was misshapen/warped bases and awkwardly bent poses ... nothing as delicate as a spear...
-
Wow - they're displaying models they've taken the time to paint, but haven't un-bent the spears?
-
Wookie Commandoes is the two crew upgrade ... boarding actions incoming?
-
I think that's a dual EPT "Intensity" (showing the "Exhausted" side in the spread)
-
I guess the balancing factor is the scenario cards... if in practice they're used like mission cards in Armada, you'll want to have a well-rounded army, optimised for the scenario cards you're bringing, but able to adapt to any scenario you may get c/- your opponent...
