Hey all, I made my own battleboard using a pre-made door!  Since this game uses a 3 x 6, you can buy a pre-made hollow door that is 3 x 6'8" stock for only $35 which is a heck of a lot cheaper than buying a commercial mouse pad type mat (even with all the other supplies you will use for the project).

I am waiting for my tutorial video to upload onto Youtube so will post when it is done.  Goes through the whole process step-by-step.

Holy s**t - that's phenomenal! Looking forward to that video!

They're kind of slow kind of not. They only have a movement value of 1 hex. However, you can spend 1 lore at the end of your move step to make them move 1 hex. So if you order them and have some extra lore, you can move them 2, which is standard for infantry. But unlike other units, you don't have to order them to use the Compelled ability. You could play an Attack Right command card, ordering 3 units in the right flank, but choose to spend one lore per Bone Horror and have them each move 1 hex, even if they weren't an ordered unit in your right flank. That gives them this creeping, inexorably advancing feeling.

Thanks for that ... by way of comparison (in slowness) in BattleLore Ironbound only moved 1 too?

(PS While I love your choice of Avatar, it's going to take some getting used to ... coming from the X-Wing forums, to me Budgernaut has always = Zuckuss, any one else using that avatar was an imposter lol)

Oh yeah, I forgot about bone horrors.

They are usually slow, but will probably be immune to morale as their own unit.

Are they slow in Battlelore? They're particularly fast in Descent (and have and incredible reach to boot!)

I'm looking forward to Barghests as a really fast cavalry-esque unit ... even if they don't move far distance-wise I hope they have a low initiative...

Death Knights would be cool too, but I've got a sinking feeling they'll fall into the Undead = low init category ... hopefully with something to compensate...

But regardless of my loss, I have never had more fun playing a learning to play game.

Not that I wasn't already excited, but I find this so incredibly heartening.

We were trying to make a Let's Play video for this but it kinda got derailed by the ridiculousness of everything going on and is now more of a blooper reel...I may throw it online though...need to see if the audio isn't garbage.

Audio be damned - go for it! (please!)

  5. While we're on the topic of Latari critters - can someone with enlighten me... what is/are Ventala?

Ventala is mentioned in the Latari section of the Lore guide on p. 28:

… and it bore fruit in Human and Dwarf, Ventala and Leonx, and so many creatures.

They haven't shown product images, as far as I'm aware, but they did say at Adepticon that they will be producing mats for Runewars.

FWIW they're using two adjacent 3x3 mats in the Learn to Play book on p.21 & p. 23...

Might not be reflective of the final product, but I guess it's a sign they're working on it.

(here's hoping they actually offer a 6x3 in the end)

  7. I still use a 5mm black felt for X-wing ... far less slippery than most mats ... does tend to pick up fluff and other cruft.

I want to pick up something nicer for Runewars, but I'm going to settle for green felt in the short term...

That's disappointing. I'm sure it mentioned in the rules that were uploaded that suggested colour schemes could be found for the baronies in the lore guide. ☹️

I was going red cloth  for my undead with a standard silver metal for the armour, but Sorastro's pushed me down the gold route I fear. Still looking to paint Ardus' armour red Vlad the Impaler style.

I still haven't made my mind up on the colours to use for the Lancers...

I have to say that 3D terrain, while nice looking, might not be a good choice for this game.

Normally if you collide with a terrain obstacle, you check to see that pieces capacity and if you can fit you go in. Now I suppose you could have flags that represent units and put matching flags with the unit trays that are in 3d terrain off the board, but using the terrain from the box set seems far easier...

For terrain that can by occupied, the key thing is to make sure it can fit the actual trays, either through having the actual clear space from the get go, or being modular so parts can be removed (as suggested by FFG in the Runewars Lear to Play book).

Of the four terrain that units can enter in the core (Crumbling Wall, Stone Terrace, Swamp, and Forest), to my mind only Forest would present the most creative opportunities to accomodate unit trays.

If I were building a 3D version of the forest now, I would sit the actual terrain cutout underneath it and remove the 3D part when a unit enters, replacing it when it leaves...

  10. Hi - I'm sorry you're having a rough time with RTL...

You've got a good combo of characters there for a two character campaign ... just a couple of questions -

You mention you used the two hero free attack rule, were you also making sure that if you didn't use the attack you were healing?

One thing that a lot of people miss is that Monsters can only attack once unless otherwise stated - this makes a massive difference (it was something I missed when I first played).

Another thing to check is that monsters are only using remaining movement points to retreat unless the App gives them a move action.

Totally missed that it was dealing wounds. That's awesome!

Ok, so help me out here ... there's always one blue rune and 50% of the time there's two, so he's causing the enemy unit to suffer 1 - 2 wounds.

I assumed this was direct damage like a mortal strike. The article uses the phrasing "deal damage," but the card uses the term "suffer." Looking at 22 Damage and 54 Mortal Strike in the Rules Reference doesn't clear things up - both sections use the keyword suffer, with Mortal Strike qualifying it with "directly" to note it bypasses armour.

So this 1 - 2 damage would still be affected by armour, right?

Naturally the day after we discuss the underpowered nature of core set Waiqar FFG would release this preview. Honestly not a whole lot of game changing but that Execusioner...man, that is solid. Overall I'm REALLY excited for all of these expansion. Quick question: do they drop same date as core sets or is there some turn around on those? I haven't seen any of it preorderable anywhere is why I ask.

Second quarter 2017 is the date given ... to put that into perspective - the core set is "Fist Quarter 2017"

  13. Ok, so I came across this and thought it would be of interest...

I'm sure we're all familiar with the terrain and boards used for the FFG demo tables from various con photos and videos - well here are step by step guides on how they were made by the guy who FFG commissioned to make them...
