Anyone else slightly disappointed in the scale of the game?
jek replied to jonboyjon1990's topic in Runewars Miniatures Game
Going off of my experience with miniature games players if they like a game, tournament size isn't going to stop people from picking up new minis in a faction... -
I would be very interested in that...also the potential for an army builder there as well would be cool.
-
All this is doing is making me MORE excited...hehe we took over another negative post to turn it positive

I see my error I forgot that charge was a modifier and not an action. So this card would let you potentially take a fast action that doesn't have a modifier with any modifier of your choice now...?
-
So with our most basic of knowledge for this game thus far does that card mean you could use a charge action and the extra damage modifier on that charge instead of only using that modifier on a normal attack?
-
Also if you REALLY like this game become a cheerleader for it, encourage people to just try it, get them hooked. Not saying you aren't planning this but some times for the games we want to play we need to create the community for it, and the escalation leagues and such are great starting points for that! I just wish the ruled for escalation were released so we can see them.

No problem it was pretty fun breaking things down, my work computer is also now full of dwarf stuff lol. I think there will be a lot of LGSs that have big communities and a lot that have no community for this game. It's unfortunate because to me this is a really exciting game, I like what I have seen of the mechanics and how the army building seems to work. I hope that maybe the drop in interest in your community may be and ebb and flow and maybe once more is shown of it that interest could return. I know the people at my LGS are excited for it and I think we all trust FFG enough to make the initial investment. Though I also understand how hard it is to pull 20yr veterans away from the games they have invests $1000's in.

GW does include the option to build the champion, musician, and standard in their units true, other games like Warmahordes do make them extra typically. However I see the Command unit for RuneWars as more the army commander not just a unit commander...

I feel that competitively that argument doesn't work though...yes you CAN get a tie defender for 15 and that is 1/3 of your squads MODELS but you are most likely going to have upgrades on it that didn't come from the starter or the defender itself. In Imperial Assault you buy the core which is the same price as this core, yes most people are planning on double core sets but if you focus only on one army you are still only going to have to BUY on core. then it is only 1 or 2 expansions to get you 200pt army maybe not even depending on the upgrade cards in core.
-
I agree with this statement wholeheartedly, and if this were a skirmish game, Infinity would be my go to for comparative analysis because it is low cost of entry to a COMPETITIVE level with, (forgetting the launch models because they were super meh) some of the most beautiful models in any miniature game. Their rule book needs an index though =P

Four Factions on Organized Play Store Poster
jek replied to Elliphino's topic in Runewars Miniatures Game
Why not buy the starter play small games to learn the rules and then when latari come out sell off your core units but keep the starter components so that you have the templates and tokens in the case that the two other armies are just stand alone expansion armies? -
Comparative cost analysis is a valid argument here though since the complaint is cost, and if you create come up with an idea on what this SHOULD cost without comparing it to other similar games then you create an unfounded argument. But I'll turn my attention to Mantic games since they are another lower entry cost game. I don't feel like repeating my previous math for Daqaan but the end result was cost for a 200pt army is 130 with 2 starters and a batch of knights, or 160 with 2 starters a batch of knights and the command. KINGS OF WAR TIME! I went with dwarfs here. and did a little bit of research on Organized play. they do games of either 1500 or 2000pt games. My knowledge of this game is limited to it's name and it looks very similar to WHF in list building and armies and such. This was easy we start with the Dwarf Mega Force! when creating this point list I used the most expensive options when it came to units that could be multiple things which I believe were only the Ironwatch and Cannons here is the contents description from Mantic: This set contains 144 multi-part plastic Dwarf miniatures, including: 40 Ironclad 1 unit 40 models 180pt 30 Ironwatch 1 unit 10 models 115pt 1 unit 20 models 155pt 30 Shieldbreakers 1 unit 10 models 90pts 1 unit 20 models 130pts 20 Bulwarkers 1 unit 20 models 150pts 10 Brock Riders 1 unit 10 models 210pts 1 Bombard with Crew 110pts 3 Ironbelcher Cannons/Organ Guns with Crew 110pts/cannon Warsmith with optional components 85pts Square Bases Models supplied unassembled and unpainted. Cost $140-160 on ebay Points as stated with the above criteria 1565 you could increase this amount by breaking each unit into its smallest components my point cost breakdown is added in blue. This is a great deal(based on no knowledge of this game) and its entry point to the small tier tournament is the cost of the box which I around the same cost as Runewars splitting 2 core boxes. Mantic is nice in that they post their rules online, however if you want most units or models outside of the starter models/units you have to buy their book which is between 20-30. So I would say they are RW and Kings of War is a similar price point, with Kings have a higher model count based on the army I chose. I don't know if you can get to 2000 points with upgrades to the models in this force if you can then cool if you can't then it will probably be an additional $50... but the isn't much in the grand scheme of mini games. And to me the models look like similar quality in detail of the sculpts. Also we are yet to see what material FFG uses for this game. I would be surprised if it is the same plastic used in their board games.

For the command unit I say it's too early to presume anything on its worth...but I do agree with budgernaut The trays are cool and I'm happy (as noted in several posts) that they are included, however they can't be seen as an addition or something of add value compared to similarly priced boosters.

I'm trying to decide if I want to buy two core sets or pick one faction and trade the other faction
-
Sure! lets break some stuff down! here is a quick 75 point list from Warmachine. It uses half of there 2 player box set. That is what the blue is, half of a $90 box set... System: WarmachineFaction: CygnarCaster: 1 / 1Points: 75 / 75 Maddox1 (Major Beth Maddox) -30 $45 - Ironclad 12 - Lancer 10 - Firefly 8 - Squire 5 Stormguard (Leader and 9) 15 Black 13th Gun Mage Strike Team 10 21.99 Trencher Infantry (Leader and 9) 16 49.99 - Trencher Infantry Officer & Sniper 5 12.99 Long Gunner Infantry (Leader and 9) 18 49.99 Captain Maxwell Finn 6 12.99 Total 192.95 Rune wars I'm hoping 200 pts is roughly equivalent. Half a starter set is 50 here, and you get Daqaan 17 Rune Golem 1x1 20 Calvary 1X2 30 Spearmen 2x2 32 Kar Thats 99 points, lets bump that up with a second starter and why not a unit of cavalry expansion, so we are at 130 I would say it would make sense to build the army now as 2x1 golem 28pts 2x3 Cav 66pts 2x2 Spearmen 30pts 2x2 Spearmen 30pts this puts us at 186/200 with the upgrade cards for your army I would say that you could easily fill out the last 14 points with what is included and stay under the almost 200 dollar point in the Warmachine model. But if not you could throw in the command group go up to 160 and probably have infinitely more flexibility or NOT buy the cav and just use the command and their 14 upgrade cards to make an army. Sorry if this is confusing or weird I did this pretty quick and had to pull the info from other posts for RW pt costs... If I did a GW post it would have been even easier as my Cygnar choices were a cheaper pick of PP's models.
-
Why? It's pretty low compared to other games.
-
Well poop. Now I think I might get two core sets...
-
Now you jinxed it...countdown to another person posting about how bad this will be or some unfounded nonsense! 3...2...1...
-
still doesn't help the no time to paint folks lol.
-
Or (like me) don't have the time to meticulously paint an entire army but still would like to play with a half way decent looking army. I just use more than than three colors typically.
-
I know a LOT of hobby painters hate it but I want to mention in regards the the Army Painter talks their three quickshade dips, they work surprisingly well for painting full armies with minimal time...
-
I'm a firm believer in Army Painter, especially as the type of person that likes having tabletop quality mini's but has very little time, the speed paint and dip method is great for me.
-
It would definitely make it easy to tell unpainted factions apart in a game.
