I think with any of these things there has to be a  measure of common sense. "Draw Closer" isn't meant to telekinetically drag an opponent around the battlefield. It really should be used, and then described cinematically as the PC using their skills to force an opponent into a particular spot, feinting, ducking, weaving, and sprinkling their attacks with kicks and hilt-punches that move their opponent to where they want to go.

I'm very lucky with my group - we still play Pathfinder (which is pretty rules-heavy), but again, we tend to wing it most of the time - but FFG is by far our favourite system, simply because of the cinema. The mechanics don't just support the story, they truly help build the story.

Seriously, my players wouldn't even think of asking. It'd be like walking into a room full of bad guys in D&D and wanting to know what level they are.
But then, as opposed to HappyDaze's simulationist penchant, we're almost exclusively narrativist and often toss mechanics out the window entirely.

When it happens, we just wing it. One of the reasons we love the FFG system is that we can pretty much just roll a bunch of dice and come up with a story and its development as a group. The players describe the action as much as I do - I really just keep an eye on the overall story and play the NPCs.

Numerous times the devs have flat out told us to toss mechanics to the wayside when it doesn't suit the story.  Why, if I'd listened to the latest Order 66 podcast, I would have heard them hammer that point home again and again.  It sounds like you have a good group with a good grasp of the Rules As Intended.

There's also a matter of how many minions are in the group?
A minion group of only two or three stormtroopers is no big deal for most party groups*.  A minion group of six stormtroopers is reason for worry, especially if the PCs are at the lower end of the XP scale (or simply took specs that don't offer any ranks of Toughened).  A squad of a few dozen stormtroopers (like what Han ran into in the Special Edition of ANH) is reason to shriek in terror and run screaming the other way as quickly as possible.
With the Geonosis battle, the Jedi (most of whom were unnamed Rivals and not full PCs) were seriously outnumbered by the battle droids; while there were a lot of dead Jedi when it was said and done, there were also a whole mess of destroyed battle droids; the droids won more due to attrition and vastly superior numbers than anything else.
One of the things I like about this system is that minions can still continue to be a threat even to uber-high XP PCs.  Sure, the GM might have to throw more of them at the party if the characters are at the 1000+ or 2000+ earned XP marks, but a few groups of six minions with blaster carbines/rifles will still pose a credible threat to most characters.
*that is unless the players are fresh from WotC Star Wars games where stormtroopers were cannon fodder of the highest order, and a group of 6 troopers was seen as a minor challenge for most 1st level characters.  A buddy of mine and his group had a rather eye-raising experience when playing Escape from Mos Shutta when the two minion groups of three stormtroopers each nearly TPK'd the party as they all expected the stormtroopers to be pushovers just as they had been in Saga Edition, which was the Star Wars game the bulk of the players were most familiar with.  Ever since then, the players have treat stormtroopers with a great deal more respect and trepidation than they had previously.

That weapon is not in any of the books AFAIK.
As for creating it, I'd probably take the Armor Piercing Grenade from the AoR core book (Damage 13, Crit 3, Range [Short], Blast 4, Pierce 3, Limited Ammo 1) and add the Grenade Cling attachment from Fully Operational. Quick and easy way to mimic the functions of that explosive without having to scratch-build a stat block.
And to answer your other question, yes, passive qualities from a weapon do apply to damage from that weapon's Blast quality.

I recently came across theDearth2's card template (found here: https://community.fantasyflightgames.com/topic/91959-the-dearth-presents-npc-vehicles-and-starships-custom-card-template/ ) and as someone who has bought all the official Adversary Decks and finds them to be a great quick reference tool I decided to go ahead and make some custom cards for characters from the Clone Wars.
These stats are mostly my own (though it includes some from Rise of the Separatists sourcebook and beyond). For the iconic characters I have looked to the stat blocks found in various era books for guidance on scale and balance. Feedback welcome on all fronts.
As of  1st June 2019 there are 186 Adversaries and Vehicles statted up - some are official stats, but the majority are ones of my own creation. A couple of examples:

I've tried to group them up in themes as best as I can. You can find them as 3 x 3 sheets on the below links or you can download the full archive as individual cards.

I wouldn't characterize myself on "the reasonable side."  I'm trying, I really am, but I freely admit that I love the movie, and it's really hard to be reasonable when someone takes something you love and trashes it with misinformed, shortsighted, and just plain "not-what-I-personally-wanted-to-see" rantings.  On that point, I empathize wholeheartedly with longtime Star Wars fans who hate the sequel films and especially The Last Jedi.  Honestly, with all sincerity, it really sucks that you feel these filmmakers are destroying everything you ever loved about Star Wars.  And you are absolutely entitled to feel that way.  Just because I like the "affectionate deconstruction" of Star Wars that TLJ was doesn't mean everyone does, or should.  If the movie had ended with bad-part-of-Legends-inspired Luke snapping his fingers and imploding all the First Order's walkers and spaceships, I would feel offended and annoyed and probably be ranting that the film "ruined Star Wars" myself.
But it didn't, and I loved what they did with the film.  I'm passionate about my love of Star Wars and my love of TLJ, and yeah, I'm certainly a bit over-aggressive in dismissing arguments against I feel don't have any real value, because I personally can't comprehend how someone has that takeaway.  And while intellectually I support taking in information about the film and deciding not to see it, emotionally I'm a bit hurt that someone wouldn't at least make the attempt to try and understand the film before hating on it.  But when someone who hasn't even tried to understand the film before hating on it starts hating on other people who did take the time to try and understand the film and liked it. . . yeah, I can't sit still for that.
So I'm sorry if people disagree with my assertions.  I'm sorry if people feel I offended them.  These are just my opinions, and I've argued why I hold them to the best of my ability.  If you're not convinced, great.  Good for you.  You have your opinion and I have no right to tell you it's wrong.  And if I do jump down your throat, just yank me out, give me a good shake, and say "Bad Erik," and I'll try and do better.

What you're saying is that you're listening to other people's opinions (your friends) and then using them as your own opinions instead of actually watching the movie and having an opinion of your own...

As for "what you have to do these days", the movie is out on rental. It's a pittence to rent a movie these days, so just rent it and watch it and get your own opinion instead of relying on other peoples opinions and other peoples arguments to argue against a movie that you think is bad despite never having watched it.

Anyway, I'm done arguing with you.

I should have known better. Never argue with a fool. They'll only drag you down to their level and win by experience.

That's about my metric for any film, Star Wars or otherwise.  And it's served me pretty well over the years.
That said, for the most part I've enjoyed the new Star Wars films, with TFA being one my favorite "watch to just watch" flicks.  They're not perfect, but then quite frankly neither were the originals, which fall apart just as fast under the same level of scrutiny as the new films are being put under.
