Not sure how much EotE you have played or GM'd but my recommendation would be to run a printed adventure that way you can focus on the nuances of the rules, game, & story telling.

I hope you don't mind a suggestion based on your comment, unless I'm misunderstanding it.
I listened to a Skill Monkey podcast about when not to roll. One of the suggestions is when a roll is required to help move the story forward, there shouldn't be a roll. Sometimes I like the character to roll to see if something special happens so I do a Simple check no negative dice. Allows for dice to be rolled but very little chance of failure.
That was great idea on the Jawa. I probably would of had the bad guys surrender or give up because he got 3 successes on a Daunting difficulty, the 5 threat I would have used to have real Imperials show interest in the party or maybe someone approaches them for help since they are "Imperial Security" and if they don't help their cover would be blown.
His success was "no body move" everyone moving to me isn't a success which he did get 3 successes. It's hard separating each piece of the die rolls, especially if you strictly use the examples in the book because together often they counter each other.
Try to separate each portion of the roll. Ok you succeed what does that mean, now the treat means "x" but doesn't cancel out the success.
For example, I had a Wookie chasing a droid trying to escape to a freighter as the droid was closing the cargo ramp the Wookie tried to jump in (Athletics check), he had 2 successes and a despair. I took the success as he leapt into the ship just before the ramp closed because that was his goal of the skill check, then I applied the Despair as the ramp throw him off balance and he landed awkwardly taking a critical injury.
Just sharing some thoughts, hope you don't mind.

Lol, let's just add random penalties to all the races. The game is not suppose to be Rolemaster. However, if you want to house rule screwing over certain races go right ahead.
Personally, what I read here from the OP is "I don't want Mon Calamari in my game so how can I reasonably set a penalty so no players will want to play that species?"

yeah, I would see making a supply roll when buying and demand roll when selling same table. The push table is a little confusing I would say the supply/demand table sets the base price and then an opposed negotiation skill check determines the overall price I.e. +/- 5% per success or failure.
Advantage would be maybe he buys all of them or wants more or refers them to someone else and they get a boost die later.
Threat he was going to buy 20 of them now he only wants 15 instead
Triumph gets permanent boost with that NPC trader
Despair deal goes bad and get a setback die with traders on that planet or sector for "x" period of time.

Well I would run the printed adventures to star with until you get a handle on the rules. Then go for it. As a long time GM I normally write an outline with the important points then let the story and players develop.

No it is a success, but with negative consequences.
What we do for firing into me lee is it hits the target and goes through hitting an ally.
Anther example you negotiate the deal for the Droid at the price you wanted, but the droid later breaks down.
There are some skills that do seem like success and despair is a failure pretty much all the ones you listed, but there are other skills were it makes more sense.
That's kind of the fun of the narrative system

Not an issue at all, the player can turn any Advantage into free strain. I've seen players recover 3-5 strain an action for free that's much better than wound recovery.

This is the exactly reason why FFG was so smart breaking up the game into 3 compatible, but separate systems. I'm like you, I'll most likely skip most of AoR and get the core force book to be able to add that later.

Yes, when you use the dark side a lot, you create a disturbance in the force. Disturbance in the force = Darth Vader and his minions start taking an interest in you. Remember, exiles are only a lives because they are in hiding and not using the force, so if a player is running around constantly using the force he will get noticed.
Heres the best part it's not like a crime; meaning no witnesses no one knows. When you use the force you create ripples in the fabric of the force.

archon007 got a reaction from FangGrip in How to stat a trap?
Yes, you can use perception, I guess. But perception means actively looking, listening, etc. vigilance is non-active awareness which is why you use it for initiative when surprised.
Example 1: traveling through Tatooine and you have to go through a canyon. Player "this looks like a good place for an ambush, I look around before entering" = perception check.
Example 2: traveling through Tatoonie and tusken raiders pop out of the sand = vigilance check.
The Skill monkey episode explains it really well.

You're the second person to ask for that  What I said to the first guy was to just give yourself more XP on the Description page.  The only down side is that I separate earned XP from starting XP and this makes it look like it's earned XP.

Again, the reason I didn't put this in explicitly is because Obligation number and size is really up to the whim of the GM, the size of your group, and your character concept.  What I would really have to do is treat obligation size the same way as I do ranks for skills and characteristics.  In other words, I would keep track of different sources for obligation size, the same as I do for characteristics and skills (ie, characteristics can come from talents, items, attachments, species, purchase, etc).  For obligation size, it would need to be base obligation, XP obligation, and credit obligation.  Right now, I'm keeping track of a single value for size.

To sum up... it would complicate things, and I don't want to deal with it for the next release.  However, after giving it more thought, it wouldn't be that difficult to add, so look for it in 1.0.0.8 or beyond

archon007 got a reaction from aljovin in Using artwork from Wookiepedia?
No you absolutely can not use the art. It's not even their art it's copyrighted art to begin with. Without permission coils could be in trouble if they care to bother with you, it also does NOT fall under fair use.
Examples of fair use include commentary, search engines, criticism, news reporting, research, teaching, library archiving and scholarship. It provides for the legal, unlicensed citation or incorporation of copyrighted material in another author's work under a four-factor balancing test.

archon007 got a reaction from Shamrock in 3 ranks at character creation
Only if the GM allows it and since that, in my opinion, goes against the spirit of the rules I'd say no. If you could do that there really is no point saying max starting ranks is 2. Any saved exp from character generation can't be used until after the first session.

archon007 reacted to Donovan Morningfire in Defense Rating, what stacks with what?
As far as what does and does not stack, the general rule of thumb is that if what's providing the defense rating doesn't include a plus sign or the word "increases" in the description, than it doesn't stack.

So the defense bonus from armored clothing (Melee Defense 1 and Ranged Defense 1 effectively) wouldn't stack with Cover (Ranged Defense 1), as neither of those are mechanically expressed as a "plus" but instead as a static value.

Improved Armor Master would combine with the defense bonus from armor, as the talent specifically says that it "increases" the armor's inherent defense bonus (if any) by 1 (so a set of Padded Armor would provide 1 point of defense to the wearer, while heavy battle armor would provide 2 points of defense).  Same with talents like Sixth Sense (+1 to ranged defense) and Superior Reflexes (+1 to melee defense), as both of those are "plus" values rather than a static value.

Edit: Had a bit on Defensive and Deflection, but then saw Jeger's remark about which bit of wording on Cover is correct and which is in error, making the whole paragraph rather moot.

I'm writing up the adventure into something digestible by other gms. My notes are usually all over the place and this is my first attempt to try and organise my adventure into something others can (and hopefully) would want to read. It'll be complete sometime in October (GTA V willing ), when my PCs have finished it. I've got the outline, but things are changing as they make their way through the adventure. For instance Adom Cruz introduced himself right after the Sabacc game and has become the bounty hunter PC's first acquisition. He also conned the players into paying for a 7 star hotel suite, under the name of another PC. These little details that crop up during and (more readily) between sessions which add depth to any game are great, and if possible I'd like to add as ideas for other GMs.

That said, you can see this is the start I've made. I intend to describe each of the encounter blocks as outlined in the adventure flow plan, and if interestingly different the alternative the players insisted to follow instead. It'll also include stats for new creatures and NPCs, which for now I've got in pencilled in my notebook.

    I've made an
. And will include any art I draw into the adventure.
I've used an old WEG sourcebook on Socorro as source for the location, culture and animals. It's called the Black Sands of Socorro. I recommend getting a copy to run in conjunction with what I'm writing.

Based off of Ultimate alien anthology (which I own) they are rated +2 Dex, -2 Int, -2 Wis (d20 system). Keeping with that I would have: Brawn 2 Agility 3 Intellect 1 Willpower 2 Presence 2 Cunning 2. They also have increased speed when running on all four legs, natural weapons, Darkvision & low-light, +4 to swim, and are Agoraphobic as they spend most of their lives in underground dens (suffering a penalty when in open spaces unless they make a Will save).
