[When Does Your House Card Deck Refresh]

Quick question.

 

During a round you play House Cards during combat and they go to your discard pile.  Do you pick up all your house cards at the end for the round and start the next round with a full hand or does your discard pile persist between rounds (i.e. you only get your discards back when you play your last card, it becomes your new discard pile and you pick up the other 6)?

On this topic, what if the invader wins the fight but has no swords on the House Card played during the fight or if the defender plays a card with more fortifications than the invader has swords?

"If a Garrison is defeated in combat (whether defending by itself
or with other friendly units), it is permanently removed from the
game, regardless of the number of Sword or Fortification icons on
House cards played in the combat."  (Rulebook p.26)
