I hope they are interesting and cheap. Otherwise they're not interesting and too expensive. But not too interesting or too cheap otherwise they make everything else uninteresting and too expensive. So yah. I hope lots.

Pretty much exactly Nyms ability and rebels will probably get to fly him too since Rey is going "dark" and he will switch back to the "light". But it should be all bombs and missiles and torps.

That's my worry for deathrain. He's deadly because he autoplaces on top of Aces before they move. Not sure omblet is actually going to be as good for him as everyone thinks.

What would an Imperial anti-bombing upgrade look like?

I like it but it should be a mod and still allow a second tie only mod. Then they can make a tie title regarding tie only mods that does something. I know that's not super flavorful but it feels like all the old ties really need somthing like that. First Order Production line, title, tie only: you equip a modification at -1 squad points OR your upgrade bar gains the tech slot. You may not equip this title <insert language here so that it can't be used by first order ships>. And we still do need a do BR or Boost twice arc dodger or ability. -
His pilot ability will be to move objects when he activates. Ship title will allow him to freeze missiles and torps in place like the laser bolt in the movie. It's going to be awesome. And I'm sure it will only have 2 attack dice and 2 hull. And probably somehow be able to be piloted by other factions.

I was coming on to post just this. But after you pay for 2-3 what else is tough enough with remaining points to swarm leader? When your leader gets alpha struck off the board can you finish a game with them?

It feels like the better question might be: How do I get value out of the academy tie? Everyone mentions blocking. Everyone who doesn't mentions how everything else popular right now either ignores it or one shots it. That wasn't always the case. So block- duh. But what else? Flank and annoy! Yes. Use it to... swarm leader! Good. What else? I think that's the issue. Not much else you can do with that chassis and if there was it probably would be worth a lot more than 12. A few more cheap to no cost tie only upgrades should do the trick to making the acedemy pilot great again.

I've been super surprised do Boost or BR again wasn't a pilot ability basically since interceptors came out. It's obvious and makes one hell of an arc dodger. About a month into the game for me interceptors came out... we missed the you can't do the same action twice rule... Turr solo'd 3 rookie xwings 2nd or third play. Was very unhappy to learn that rule (not really). My buddy was ecstatic. Then I grabbed Soontir instead. He was less ecstatic. -

Not sure about that being tier 3. Add soontir to your ban list though. Deathrain+ Bomblet+ adv sensors+ unguided+ LWF Inquisitor+ title+ thrusters+VI Omega Leader+ A score to settle WAMPA!!! --- Or a third ace of your choice instead of OL + WAMPA!!! Just thought I'd put in 2 ships you'd probably shoot at before Deathrain instead of just 1. PTL or Prockets on Inquisitor or drop ADV sensors on Deathrain if you go with a third ace. -

Sad but true: It would look exactly like a rebel or scum upgrade except cost more, be less useful in some way, and be for a ship that doesn't need it or has other things in that same slot that it needs. Happy but won't happen: Defensive thrusters, mod, 2pts- you may perform the Boost or BR action more than once a turn. When you are damaged by a non-weapon source you may discard an evade token to reduce the damage by 1. -
It wasn't probably just me transposing all the new "punisher is fixed" stuff.

I am in agreement, both on lack of bombs on the bombers and on Cad! Cad could have been scum and imperial and we would see even more bombing shenanigans! Shuttles and decimators with bomblet generators for example! I imagine both would be wonderful additions. The empire would go back to doing the thing they should be able to do better than others: bombing. Well, maybe not better but at least "more often".

There was a lot of Kenkirk- Ysanne flying around awhile ago but it lacks a punch. Both require a lot of finesse in getting more than a hull upgrades worth out of A 4pt upgrade.

There was a time in the game where the 24pts you would spend on 2x z-95 was always better than 22pts on a rookie x-wing with a droid. Both ships are pretty obsolete in the game today; this is one of the major complaints of players who started Wave 1-3. It's also of note that you can get a z with a hull and concussion missile for 2 points cheaper or go with concussion and guidance chips for 16 and 1 less hull at 5pts cheaper. Both pretty well give you an xwing on the cheap and show just how bad a position the game's namesake currently holds. Take 1 or the other to fill a similar role in your list: a 1 and done that you might stretch an extra round of fire out of.

"These upgrades do not do enough to help it" is, I believe, what most folks are arguing. Bomblet makes the bombing punisher 2pts cheaper. Still survives only 2 rounds. Still only gets off 2 bombs. Better? Yes. Is 2pts cheaper for a similar thing at the cost of a second and more controlled/powerful option better enough? Nope. Minefield Mapping: Garunteed bomb drops and garunteed wasted points. The strength of the action bombs is that you can drop them and garuntee damage. Are there tactical advantages? Yes, especially turn 0. Do those tactical advantages outweigh the disadvantages of 1/3 of your squad being a nearly naked punisher? Unlikely. Unguided rockets: They are not a 3 dice attack. They are not a 3 dice attack. They are not a three dice attack. See all the other threads about them for more info. Are they better than the punisher's primary weapon attack? Yes. Better than a missile/torp shot that also requires an action? No. Cheaper? Yes. For twice the slots. All around it's the right idea but doesn't fix the punishers' problems. It's a more expensive ship that you have to buy often overcosted upgrades for it to make it as good as cheaper ships that do similar things. If you were taking a double seismic charge punisher you now get it for cheaper If you were playing loaded Redline and somehow have points left and want some turn 0 fun you can now spend those points and do so. If you were taking 3 generic punishers with bombs and missiles you shave a few points (but are still likely better off with bombers!). Deathrain might. Might. Might have gotten enough help. Losing connors, clusters, and prox mines hurts since you can't auto erase an ace now but having a slightly better attack vs. non Aces should allow you the same damage output but it will be spread out. The 7pt difference in old and new loadouts might be enough to matter. I'll certainly give it a go a few times. I, like many other posters, hope I'm wrong. I hope this is enough. Casually and in epic it probably is. Is that enough? Depends on who you ask.

I've enjoyed it pretty much every time I've played it. I think the real issue is it's not quite good enough to ace and not quite cheap enough to pocket. So sometimes you get pocket ace value in your ace and sometimes you get an ace for value. we need big brother and lil sis as pilots though.

Why stop at 3? ...still wouldn't make interceptors relevant again with all the bombs heading this way. Interceptors need action economy and price reduction to get over the hump. -
Gain a bomb slot and may drop 1 maneuver and 1 action bomb a turn.

Oh don't worry, there's an unspoiled droid in the pack that will shore up that problem. looks like a great pack. As a big bad mad bomber there is a lot to like here. Very annoyed that Imperials keep getting hand me downs and hopes for the thing that was specifically their thing for so long. Unguided rockets and the aggressor and synched turret are mostly ignorable. Bomblets and mapper seem interesting enough. Looks like I need to requesition some scum ships to fly and "test out" those enemy tactics.

It's always felt like they expected the FS to have so many upgrade options (comparatively, at the time) that they made sure the pilot abilities couldn't be comborific by making them terrible. Fettigator and stress control Kath were fun and gimmicky but at over 50pts each they never made a big splash and some people made them work, most likely, because even in thier hayday, just like today, they are good but no one practices against them. The Shadowcaster: I just haven't flown it enough and it's mobile arc takes care of (one of) the FSs biggest problems- small based arc dodgers fit in those side arcs too easily.
