They said they won't do it.  No point in bringing it up.  Think it might have something to do with their license from Lucas Arts.

They've also said they would not do a third faction, cross faction ships, clone wars ships, and many other things.

If they wanted to make it happen, they could do it.  Neither Lucas Arts or Mouse Ears is going to say "Sorry, we just don't want you to make more money for us" if they showed it would sell.

How much would you pay for a card pack that included errata'd cards, new pilots, a few hard to get cards, alt art cards, and a new upgrade?  I bet they could put one out per faction and make them $25 each and they would be hard to keep on the shelves.  Depending on how they decided to do it, it could also include a new rulebook or missions or whatever.  Paper and digital art is cheap compared to models and blisters.  They already have lots of material that didn't make the final product that could be placed in it.

They can do it.  Will they?  Never say never.

    because you..didn't reroll dice.

I rerolled 0 dice. I can reroll 0 dice all day long.

And your rules quote actually says "die" not "dice". Do you also insist that all rerolls done in your presence are singular? Or would that break your very, oddly, obsessively specific version of rerolling?

By that very specific definition I could also pick up the die between 2 fingers and roll it between my fingers and show you a face (probably of my choosing). The rule does not mention spin, distance traveled, having to leave the appendage that picked it up, landing on a table surface, or really even having to stop moving.

Did I pick up the die? Yes.

    Did the die roll? Yes.

When people get weirdly specific, things start getting really weird.

Did I pick up the die? Yes.

Did I place it in that rock timber? Sure did.

Did I turn it on? Yep.

Did the die roll? Lots of times.

Does that satisfy the conditions laid out? Yep.

Is it really loud and obnoxious to play a game with a rock tumbler rolling next to it? That would depend on what your definition of "is" is.

Wouldn't it be easier to accept that 0 as a concept is valid for the game based on space wizards, laser swords, and a universe where in space everyone can hear you scream?

Refilling, per the picture, says to pick up the dice being rerolled and roll them. If you "reroll 0 dice", you didn't pick up and reroll any dice per the above rule, so you...didn't rerroll for her ability.

    You keep saying any.

I can pick up and reroll 0 dice.  I'm doing it right now.

Can I pick up 0 dice?  Why yes I can.

Can I reroll 0 dice? Ditto.

Why are you confused by this?

  4. Kestal and Double Edge might be good enough.

More combat potential than the HWK isn't a high enough benchmark for my interest.  I assume that is the case with pretty much every release; for the big "Imperials get turrets" reveal a more capable HWK if you spend more points is a solid "meh".  And I like Scum HWKs.

  5. Ships themselves, outside of the few combos I've already seen mentioned, look great.

I like Advanced Targeting for bombs but it needs a new name.

Lots of combo and interaction issues on some of the other stuff to consider and some of it is too good.

No, because making hand motions isn't rerolling dice.  I'm not saying it 100% doesn't work, but it's the argument for why it might not.

You can choose to reroll 0 dice, but when you do so, you don't actually reroll any dice.

By choosing to reroll 0 dice, I have, in fact, rerolled 0 dice. Not any, just 0.

You didn't pick up any dice and reroll them.  Like I said, it's open to debate unless/until they FAQ it.

I'll gladly pick up a die or 6 and make the hand motion of rerolling without dropping said die or dice if that's what you require.  Would that satisfy your oddly specific idea of "rerolling"?

They have the best epic toys right now.

Also, Soontir Fel says hello. He was how good for how long again?

I would ban soontir in a heartbeat if it meant we could fly the ship with any other pilot. Same with Corran and the Ewing's I'm sure.  Same with Biggs and the xwing.  One super pilot a ship hasn't ever been a good thing for the game as a whole.

  9. In every minis game with "sides" or "factions" you will have purists.  We see this to the extreme in this game with players who not only choose a side, choose a play style, and some even choose an era!  This is fact in minis games, not just this one.

Amongst miniatures gamers there are also preferred play styles.  In Xwing the flavor also matches fluff and creares even more extremism because of it.

Xwing started as 2 factions: one cobbled and recognizable and sturdy with squad cohesion and the other faceless and uniform and advanced/efficient but paper thin even enmasse.  The first was forgiving and "easy" the second was ruthless when flown well and near invincible when flown well and there was a skill discrepancy.  In most games, minis or not, there are players drawn strongly to that style- crush the Newbie before they learn the game.  The fact that this matches fluff in our game contributes to that extremism again.

    ---

Me, I am an Imperial Purist for the most part.  Most of my xwing was wave 1-4 when this style dominated (before phantoms and turrets took over). I am this way because, mostly, $$$.  It's a cheap minis game but not a cheap game by itself.  I also enjoy winning by outskilling and losing drastically when bad luck strikes.  That's why I fly empire.  That and 6-8 ship swarms are wonderful.

Again, speaking for myself, the game became a lot less fun when the skills I learned to succeed at the game started bleeding out: high PS phantom repositioning and turret prevelance and swarm is on the wane.  Now take away technical superiority, bombs, and acing and give it to other factions in BETTER ways than I have it and I'm frustrated.  Actually take 2 of the original lynchpin ships (FS and the Tie Fighter) and give it to the other factions and in more interesting and viable ways and wowee... why would a purist be frustrated?

    ---

So that got long.  That got ranty.  I'm sure most posters will just Argue that the "phantom ruined game" and "it takes skill to fly turrets" and "your time will come again".  But games create purists for many reasons.  Most of us are reasonable and thoughtful and proud and probably loud.  That doesn't invalidate how we feel about it.  And if you don't feel good about Star Wars you're probably leaving the game or at least you should probably leave this game (another issue: how much of Star Wars is in this game anymore?).

  10. I'm a long time Imperial vet and the issue is that we've never had a ship like it.  It's going to take a lot of tweaking to fit it in.

That being said I don't think it's a great ship.  It's a hawk with more def and better dial (I assume) with TLT or an advanced with advancedTC except no evade and less shields with pseudo 3 AG if you put on guided rockets (assuming light weight frame on both).  Neither of those are tearing things up. It can do both, but now we're talking cost.  And both names pilots do have strong ability potential so somthing may emerge.

Gonna be real hard to get him in range 1 with that B-wing.

What about stressing him? I'm guessing if he has stress, he'll just stay cloaked and fly green to clear but if he's cloaked, at least he's not shooting, right?

    That's why I said pray.  At least it's a range 1 bubble.

I may be screwed then. I'm playing in a league. We get 150 points and two named pilots. My next opponent is flying "Whisper" + Agent Kallus + FCS + VI + Adv Cloaking. He's also got the "inquisitor" + PTL + Tie/V1 + Auto Thrusters. Not sure what the rest of his squad will be but thinking an Upsilon Shuttle and two Tie/Fo

I've got 150 points to build a squad to beat him. My squad must include Nera Dantels and Garven Dries and no other named pilots. So, my highest PS pilot will be Garven at PS6. Gonna be tough!

Ouch... Nera with Rey Crew, dead eye, adv. proton torps and FCS... and pray.

  13. Snapshot for Backdraft (which I've only done once so far) is for that initial approach and to get folks to try to "move around" him so that the Aux arc is easier; I had no intention of backsliding with it.  There are points in the build for QuickDraw but I like the all 7s and the bonus crit over trying to self damage for profit.

Do you just find it harder to get Range 1 as a higher PS pilot?

  14. 4 ship Imperial combo?!?! What has this world come to?  It's certainly more fun than tournament worthy but this should be interesting enough.

    Backdraft+ Spec Ops+ FCS+ LWF+ sensor cluster+ SNAPSHOT

Scimitar Bomber + shuttle + ops spec+ Systems officer

    Mauler Mithal + Snapshot

Zeta Leader + Snapshot+ Comms Relay

    ---

Tricks: this is just a snapshot + Op specialist list... and then some.  You could pick any EPT toting pilots and the shuttle with Op specialist and call it a day or you can have some fun. What Mauler, Zeta, and kinda backdraft offer to the list is extra out of combat fun. All three create a range 1 field of "free actions" in the activation phase.

Mauler and Zeta can enhance thier Snapshots to 3 dice. Zeta can potentially use his ability twice a round (Snap a lower PS, green maneuver, enhance again in combat phase).

Backdraft gets a free TL and maybe another focus to fuel cluster.  Even a missed snap is a free focus or TL for someone.  Add in a green maneuver on the shuttle and normal actions and everyone should be sitting with tokens come Combat or have done some damage already or both!

    ---

    Parts:

Bomber Shuttle- I opted for cheap and supportive.  The Operations Specialist is really the only required piece. With a few points here or there you can mix it up.  PS up and snapshot here too is an option but gets spendy.  Tomax is also great but you're losIn a ship.  Considered a Lambda for this slot but the shuttle is cheaper for same combo.

Backdraft: you have to have some beef and this one has it out both arcs. While Snapshot doesn't trigger the title (oh how I wish it did!) FCS combos well enough. A missed Snap should also generate a free focus and allow you to BR for double taps or double up on focus for enhanced Def with sensor clusters. Added crits are always appreciated.

Mauler: High PS, cheap EPT carrier. Can throw 3 dice in activation and 4 + focus and even a TL (thanks shuttle!) during combat at PS 7.  Pretty snazzy for a 19pt tie. Still gets 3 dice off before a Fenn alpha while Fenn has no tokens before he gets obliterated. Could be Howlrunner for a point more.

Zeta: same as Mauler except he might only get 3/3 or 2/4 situation and stress dependent.  Also packs the extra shield and extra evade. The extra evade is more refillable since there will lots of tokens flying about.  Considered inspiring recruit on shuttle for cheaper but the extra TL is probably better than an open dial. You can save points by dropping to Scourge or Howlrunner for similar results and upgrade your shuttle.

    ---

Pros: comborific, fun, hits hard, Imperial 4 ship "Jank" build, no real 1st target, PS and activation kills at 7/7/7/2, positioning matters, 3/4  shoots before Fenn!

Cons: fragile (ish), base shuttle doesn't contribute a ton in combat, can get aced with only mid-PS, lots of interactions to remember

    ---

Changes- options already noted.  Shuttle has some wiggle room and so does Zeta slot.

    what say you?
