Conviction got a reaction from thereisnotry in What can IA learn from Gloomhaven?
Gloomhaven is indeed a better game than IA. IA relies on dice for the meat of it's combat. Not everyone sees this as a negative, but I do. I don't hate dice as a core mechanic, but I definitely find it uninspiring.
Combat and movement in Gloomhaven are handled so elegantly. I encourage you to look up Gloomhaven's system. Each player has a different and distinct deck of cards with attacks, moves, heals, etc and this deck also functions as your stamina. The system is just brilliant and creates interesting and fun decisions at every single point of the game.
If I could get an app assisted Gloomhaven style game with a major IP theme, I would snap it up in a heartbeat. Fantasy Flight does good work with their games, but Gloomhaven is just pure genius. I own WAY too many IA minis, and I have probably gotten IA to the table a total of 15 times? Gloomhaven on the other hand has seen well over 50 plays, with a wider group of players. It is just a more satisfying experience. The overhead for the guy in charge of the game is more than IA though. Not a ton more, especially before the APP they were basically equal, but with GH it wasn't 1 vs many. Now with the APP taking away a lot of the overhead, I think IA is simpler to get to the table, but much less rewarding.

Conviction reacted to Lorinor in Masks of Nyarlathotep
Then let's navigate through the swamp as best we can right now:
To play a campaign, you will need to decide on six Ancient Ones to defeat.
(Should you lose one of these six games, you're out and the world ends.)
Each game will use 2 preludes, the one from the Ancient One you are
currently facing and the one you will face next.
[Question: Does this not mean the last game will only have one prelude?]
The Personal Stories for each investigator have to be used as well.
If the Personal Stories are meant to carry over, like the article says, it's only logical to assume you keep your investigator until you lose him or her.
No group could possibly play six games in a row. The sanity loss would be wayyy too high.
I fully expect something to keep track of things that need to be tracked from game to game.

Conviction got a reaction from SirDragonBane in Thoughts and Observations While Playing the App [No Story Spoilers]
I totally agree with your and TVBoy's point about too much screen time becoming a detractor from the tabletop experience. Especially for those of us who have painted our minis, looking at the BOARD, assessing and imagining the fight... that's what RPG board games are all about! That's why I really feel FFG has hit this one out of the park. The App succeeds at freeing up the burden upon the games owner. Pre-App we had to be Teacher, GM, Villain, Player, and Voice Actor ALL AT THE SAME TIME. Now we don't have to GM(well, it's significantly less), and we get to be as surprised and delighted by the unfolding story as our fellow players. I don't have to read all the exposition now, my kids read it aloud sometimes too, and they LOVE IT.
The App rewards the person that BOUGHT the game, by making the communal experience of playing WITH people flat out easier for everyone, BUT without betraying the reason we bought it in the first place. Namely, to look at and play with little toy Star Wars figures and imagine ourselves embroiled in battles, intrigue, and mystery in a galaxy far, far away WITH OUR FRIENDS!

Guys, guys, guys! (Don't worry no spoilers!)
I played the first mission of the campaign proper with my 11yr old, 9yr old, and my 20 something cousin.
WE HAD A BLAST!
It. Was. So. Great.
I cannot express the sheer fun we all had. It is so great not knowing what's coming! We didn't even finish the mission, because my cousin had to go, but the APP saves our progress, and we just took pictures of the map, our HP and Strain, BAM. I am SO EXCITED to play the rest of the Campaign, and every single subsequent campaign.
They got me. Took me back to being 14 and reading the Thrawn trilogy, wishing the Millennium Falcon would crash land in my back yard and I would stow away. It's that kind of feeling. We were THERE, as much as you can be without playing an RPG, and I don't have to be the GM of this!!!! I can be part of the team and experience the adventure WITH my kids/friends.

Conviction reacted to Tvboy in Fully Automated Campaign Tracker v1.4 (Large Update)(Mobile Friendly)
https://drive.google.com/open?id=1rU1rGnOp5OIKa7ELjFXEsXq8TPWW-Q9Ik7Jgv0K9hKo
Tracks your progress through all current campaigns without having to go back and look at your campaign book after the fact to figure out how much resources each side should have earned. Does so all on 3 sheets that morph depending on which campaign, heroes and class decks you are playing. Drop down menus allow you to select the appropriate cards for upgrades and missions. Easily modifiable to work with custom campaigns.
I've gotten a lot of feedback and suggestions since releasing version 1.2 and was finally able to sit down and implement them. Fixed a lot of bugs and errors as well as a complete visual overhaul of the color scheme.
For those not familiar with Google Drive, you will need to make a copy to your drive to be able edit the sheet. Can be manipulated on mobile devices more easily by installing the Google Sheets app.
Updates since version 1.2:
Aesthetic makeover using suggestions from u/digitallimit. Less colors overall with a softer palette for easier viewing. Fixed many typos, one of which, Hostile Negotiations, was causing the sheet to break. Hero's starting weapon is now shown in their respective area on the Rebel sheet. Players will still have to add it to their purchased items to be able to add mods to it. Modified the bonus credits column to allow users to input whatever number they want. No longer capped and no longer uses a 1x50 system. Hero sheet will now alert users if they need to specify whether or not they have a Bounty token. Fixed the Rewards for Forced Missions, including Bespin Gambit campaign. Other minor fixes and tweaks. Please keep giving feedback, the sheet has become quite complex and it's difficult to test every possible combination of circumstances that come up in a campaign. I'm confident there should be very few errors this time, but every person that uses the sheet and gives feedback allows me to make it even better.

Yup.
I use something similar, and it works great for FAST access to map tiles, which I discovered the hard way can really be a problem.

Conviction got a reaction from Uninvited Guest in for the experts in this game
IA is a top tier solo gaming experience and also a top tier 2, 3, 4, or 5 person experience. Legion can't say the same. IA is more than worth the hundreds of dollars I have spent.

Conviction got a reaction from The Cocky Rooster in App needs an UNDO button
eh, this is interesting, and very kind of him to share with the community, but I would have to switch from using the iPad to a big screen and Steam. I would lose all my current campaigns as well. Also, he says himself it is probably buggy. No thanks. Definitely need an UNDO function native to the app. Honestly, this should have been included at LAUNCH. It's a basic feature of most apps, especially RECORD KEEPING apps, which is what this basically is.

Conviction got a reaction from The Cocky Rooster in What heros are you playing thru the app with?
I have several campaigns thus far, none beyond Mission 2. The one I'm the most excited about is Hard Mode:
Jyn, Gideon, Mak, Shyla
Jyn and Mak are the ranged damage dealers while Shyla is going to play our tank and Gideon the support player.

Very well done! Hahaha don't sweat the wampas, there are some really nice paint jobs in there. With the clawdites especially, you can really see how far you've come along - they look great! From the photos I also think the Gammoreans and the Tuskens turned out particularly well.
I feel like I'm in a similar boat to you - Sorastro-inspired stormtroopers were the first thing I ever painted, but there's just such a difference between the dull plastic and even the first-attemps minis. My big problem now is that as I've gotten more comfortable I've also become more of a perfectionist, and while I think some of them are starting to look really good my output has slowed to a crawl

Conviction got a reaction from IanSolo_FFG in Hard mode (Mission 2 Spoilers!)
Jyn took 2 shots at the E-Web AND interrupted him with Quick Draw for a 3rd... one HP left(out of 5)!
Gah!
Gideon should have attacked, his blaster that has a Surge stun is necessary to stop the E-Web from one-shotting somebody with their super strong double attack!
We keep forgetting Gideon and just having Jyn, Shyla, or Mak try to kill E-Webs before they have a chance to go. That’s too risky, cuz they can get 3 defense on the black dice twice(lucker-dog Imps!) and survive. Even survived Jyn’s Quick Draw!
This is just the beginning too. Hopefully we can rescue Darpik and our shipmates(we played this second mission once before on tutorial mode).
I’ll update with how game progress goes tonight, we left it paused here this morning. I was very tempted to take the day off as the snow is supposed to be 5” today anyway. Horrible roads here in southern Michigan!

I went for a random selection of the ones I had painted and ended up with Biv, Garkhaan, Diala and Onar. We're a very "in your face" team.
