  1. Also, Incapacitated characters can still make checks. The wording is unfortunately misleading - they automatically fail rather than being unable to actually roll.

This is important because you can use Void opportunities to ignore a condition, like Incapacitated. So you can make a check in Void stance and if you get two opportunities, you can still act normally.

However, you've still got the condition, so anything that works against Incapacitated targets still applies and another crit still knocks you Unconscious. All it allows you to do is act normally in spite of it.

  2. Bleeding works off of the "strife symbols on kept dice", not off of the Strife you end up gaining.

So spending opportunities to negate strife doesn't affect Bleeding and neither does Void stance.

  3. I actually disagree. The text of the DLC makes it clear that this is primarily a school that is taught outside of any clans structures. Yes, many Falcon are taught this school, too, but it is not their school.

Similarly, the Ishiken is not a Phoenix school. The Phoenix try to be the main training for Void users, but it is explicitly not a Phoenix school.

Now sure, you can always take any school with any character, but cross-clan training needs extra explanation and these schools are something else actually.

  4. He's also simply wrong about both Duels and Intrigues. They both work just fine.

However, the book does need more examples for stuff, although the latest errata did help.

Range bands also work. "Ignoring" in this case means "don't track them the way you would track a grid". (There is a bit of weirdness with moving to range 6, if you can make that happen, however.)

  5. Shortfall is part of the basic mechanism, but also not used very frequently in any defined manner. It's simply how many successes short you are. (TN 3, 1 success == Shortfall 2)

So the thing is that it's there to encourage people to do more things with bonus successes and shortfall. You were always supposed to include those with a lot of rolls, especially in narrative scenes. It should be used for anything including "does this person get pissed at me for being blunt?", where success is "no, and you get what you were looking to get", small shortfall is "also no, but you don't get what you wanted" and only larger shortfall is "yep, they're now mad at you". Or Jumping down somewhere: Success is being fine, while failure gives you fatigue based on the shortfall (or counts as a fall and hence likely even a crit).

Risky checks give you a mechanical incentive to think about that more and include it more often.

  6. Straight from the source at FFG, these are the schools that will be included in Celestial Realms:

    • Agasha Alchemist
    • Asahina Envoy
    • Ishiken Initiate
    • Kaito Spirit Seeker
    • Kaiu Architect
    • Kitsu Realm Wanderer
    • Moshi Sun Sentinel
    • Shosuro Shadowweaver
    • Utaku Stablemaster

Significantly, the Ishiken Initiate is apparently not tied to the Phoenix clan!

The examples for adjusted TNs and staking social attributes will be very useful.

Risky Checks and a change to the Treasure Hunter are also welcome.

All in all: Gonna be very useful.

The Mantis Clan has also been updated with a few minor changes.

  8. Eh, what is OP? They're the best at getting strong crits, but that's not the only thing that matters.

Yes, Arganas, you're right, there are a bunch of useful kihō for social situations. Some of those should definitely come with social sanctions, like The Great Silence. Magically forcing everyone to shut up is majorly rude. ENNE is great for making yourself unassailable in Intrigues, but it won't come up too often. After all, that would mostly be relevant if you're the target and trying to convince your character isn't gonna be the usual case. Discrediting your character will definitely be hard, though.
