I would love to see a generic Storm trooper officer and a rebel trooper officer at some point, balance it out by giving you bleh command cards for a cheap value.

what about inferno squadron or any small 2-4 man unit as operatives?
each model or the whole unit would have special abilities
or, as suggested for a commander choice that comes with squad mates/body guard?
I may not be a fan of the episode 7 or 8, and not planning on seeing 9. but Disney did give us Rebels and Battlefront 2. I really enjoyed the story in BF2 and Shriv was my favorite character in it. even though I don't like to play rebels, I would love to see this guy represented on the battle field with all his......optimism.

I'm more partial to generic officer #7
he is way cooler than 8, and he comes first numerically.

40k's switch to full blown tournament style play in 8th edition is what helped me decide its time to get out.
playing Orks, we never got much love from the creators any way. 8th edition nerfed orks hard, then each codex that came out made that army the strongest up to that point. they are horrible at releases, IMO.
several of my old gaming buddies have also decided that 40k is just not their thing any more as well. maybe im getting to old for these types of games.
I have been very sad of late........
first GW breaks my favorite game......
Then Ruin Johnson ruins the new Star Wars for me.......
now I dropped my ice-cream on the floor.......
    I cant go on.
sorry, I went waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay off topic.

I think it's weird that for FFG the core rules pretty much are the tournament rules. So given my 30 year background of playing Star Wars miniatures games, I default to not-tournament for any conversation. In most games, official tournament rules are separate, change each season, and put a restrictions or specific interpretations on the core rules, and the core rules are designed for the fun of local groups and people who play at home. Which is who makes up most of the customer base.
Saying "they shouldn't release this character at all because tournament players MIGHT overuse it" is a disservice to the majority of players who will never go to tournaments or even frequent these boards.
In most other games, heroes are the first thing to get restricted at tournaments. No named characters allowed was common in the Herohammer phase of the mid 90's for both Warhammers. Letting opponents see each other's lists and pay victory points before the battle to force each other to discard specific upgrade cards was also common and cut down on list hacky, loopholey things. I'm not saying these would work for FFG tournaments. But I am suggesting that FFG put forth tournament rules designed to work for their games. If the concern is people taking too many commanders, you could change it from "a minimum of 3 corps" to "a minimum of 3 corps per commander" or something.

One of the most enjoyable parts of being a star wars fan for 40 years has been being able to play in this universe.
I have played the West End Games Star Wars RPG, still have all my books and looking forward to getting the FFG release if only to see what they did art wise to the books. I still have some of the Wizards of the Coast RPG books (I preferred the D6 rule). also still have over 1000 Wotc star wars miniatures including AT-AT. I play x-wing and armada. played every star wars video game they made, even the bad ones.(original battlefront 2 was the best-galactic conquest made that game)
but most importantly, yes the iconic characters are cool and we all love them. But to be able to make something feel more........I want to say down to earth but in a galaxy far, far, away, that just doesn't seem right.......but to use characters that are not super powers and the threat of failure because of that brings an element all its own. don't get me wrong, I do want to see all the cool named commanders they come up with, but the rebels have way more than the imperials, and that was I big issue I had with x-wing. the rebels and scum had a huge number of unique crew compared to the empire so they released generic officers and stuff like that. it worked ok, but it also gave that feel that the empire is full of throw away heroes because they are a huge war machine and not every commander is going to be the best.
I guess I went off on a tangent because I didn't write anything to the point I was going to make, which is:
    this is a game first.
yes balance is good, but fun is more important to me. yes I play on the tourney scene, took 2nd in a legion tournament, finished as good as 3rd in an armada tourney, I have won several x-wing tourneys including a store championship then finished 2nd the following year. so I get the importance of balance in any game. ask me about my 40k Orks and balance. I can go on for hours on that one, but I just sold my entire 40k collection after 30 years of playing that game. I put things on these boards because I think that they would add to the fun of the game. that's what I'm after. you can pick apart my ideas for what ever reason you want, but please do not just look at things from a competitive standpoint, or your going to miss out on the point I'm trying to make.

Why? That character could be better at specific things, or just lacked the political connections.
I’m sure a rebel commando veteran is more capable in combat than Leia, and maybe better than her at small unit tactics too. He just isn’t “the Princess”. Hence why he isn’t famous.
likewise, Veers is a capable leader. I’m sure there are a lot of others similarly capable. It is a galaxy spanning Empire.

I agree that it is weak in the tournament realm.
what I see working best out there is lots of troops and heavy weapons.
lost my AT-ST to storm trooper fire in 1.5 turns. well not just storm troopers but speeder bikes as well.
my plan was to tie up his units by drawing their fire from my troops, well I succeeded in that but there was just to many of them, and I didn't have enough of my own troops to do the damage I needed to on his troopers because I had the points into the AT-ST and Vader. I will never run Vader and AT-ST in the same list again just because of the point sink and the limit it puts on the rest of your list.

Epic ships in X-wing use different movement rules with a special maneuver tool to maintain relative scale. And Grand Army already uses a special deployment zone so that’s not an issue.

KILODEN reacted to Jukey in Release Schedule????
Just to be clear, I really enjoy snowtroopers in play. I had some misgivings when looking at them on paper, but they are pretty great.
As for the release system, it's all coming really fast for now because the game is baby fresh new, if this rate isn't fast enough that's unfortunate, because I can guarantee the release schedule will slow down not far down the road. FFG likes to drop a lot of content and then ease back (at least that's the trend).

Does anyone think that if this game is popular enough, that it will get an Epic game version similar to X-wing. where the table size will be increased to allow us to field AT-AT's and other larger units.
that being said, with the release of the old D6 version of the RPG, would they bring in vehicles from the EU in the RPG as possible units?
would this also be a way to bring in air support in the form of x-wings and TIE fighters? or at the very least being able to purchase air strikes during army building step?
I am a long time table topper and have been playing 40k since the early 90's, even have the original west end games miniatures for star wars. so large battles are something I have always enjoyed. but with 40k each turn is one sided and sometimes one armies turn could take an hour or more. legion being more back and forth will keep each player in the game constantly, so no lull to get bored.
I have over a thousand wizards of the coast star wars miniatures that I am thinking to proxy for a large battle, but I would rather support this new game and the beautiful miniatures that they are producing.
well, just wanting to know what people think about this idea and the likeliness that it could happen.
    thanks for listening.

My issue with GW isn't not primarily with the pricing of their models, as they typically include quite a few conversion bits and extra options, even if they do not always include all of the options that the unit can take. Although the price of the models did encourage me to switch to historical gaming with cheaper prices owing to lack of copyrights on say a Sherman tank. Yet here I am, partially as I won't have to purchase ~$100 worth of rulebooks every few years so I can play with my significantly more expensive miniatures purchased from the same company, unlike GW.
The AT-ST (and the other revealed units) also include plastic for modeling all weapons options without having to resort to kitbashing or purchasing a separate metal figure.

I think a scum and villainy faction is super doable. I can think of a bunch of units off the top of my head:
Pirates: basic trooper unit. Mix of weequay, rodians, humans and devaronians.
Gammorean warriors: special forces unit with crazy hand to hand abilities
Gun skiffs: heavy units. A slower harder hitting repulsor vehicle.
Swoop bikes: a muscle car variant on speeder bikes.
Boba Fett, Dengar, Zuckuss, 4-LOM, Bossk, Hondo...  All of those could be leaders or characters.
For people who don't think bounty hunters and pirates should go toe to toe with imperials or rebels I would point you to clone wars or rebels. Both of those have some awesome moments with crime syndicates, pirates and bounty hunters taking on military forces.

KILODEN reacted to Amanal in 3rd Faction?? Hutts or a Crime syndicate
Armada has 2 factions, but because of the various admirals you can use to command your fleet there are many different archetypes of fleets even with the two factions. I actually prefer this means of gaining variety because with just my collection of Rebels and Imperials I can now play more than one archetype of army. Ideally this works best if the armies and units are balanced as to have a deep meta within each faction.
New missions will also help give the game some additional variety, I think Legion has quite an interactive mission building system, but it will never hurt to get more missions, weather conditions and deployment options.
Mind you we do have examples of planetary militia, and such that could easily become a unit or a faction unto themselves if the game needs expanding down faction lines.

actually, the more I think about it, the more I think the generic yt-1300 should be identical to ors.

but each named one should be different in some fashion then the others,

1 could have more powerful guns but 1 less sheild

1 could have an armored hull +2, but loses 360 turret

1 could have a sensor upgrade slot, or a droid slot

stuff that makes them unique, because there is no such thing as a stock freighter in the underworld
