CommissarFeesh reacted to Rabbitball in Sloppy Labwork - Discarding a card
For me, it's a matter of instruction. The active player is being told to discard a card. Cards like Mind Barb don't instruct the player; they instruct the opponent. Therefore, it must mean that the player is doing the discarding.
Also, in every case, a discard is made from the hand of the person instructed to do it. And since every case of a player discarding from their own hand, it is their choice, it makes sense to continue the pattern.
Finally, it fits the flavor of the card. Labwork results in a card being archived. Sloppy Labwork does the same thing, but another plan got lost in the process, as represented in the form of a discard from the player's own hand.

To be clear, FFG didn't cost you anything.  They sold you a deck, likely through an intermediary game store.  That's the end of the interaction.  FFG has no involvement in the secondary market, which can swing pretty wildly every time an FAQ, errata or new set is released.
It sounds like you're more upset that the rules clarification caused a "meta shift" and that the generally ephemeral "net lister" community is no longer interested in your deck.  The timing definitely sucks, but it's not like FFG came to your house and stole $400 out of your wallet.  It's not money you ever had.

Yeah you won’t find much sympathy (or any actual FFG answers) here on the forums.
I don’t blame anyone for trying to make a quick buck, the problem is not with you the problem is that there are people spending that much money on decks.
Overall decisions like this are helpful for the game long term. I’ll take something that benefits the play of game over someone’s side hustling any day.
Sorry your get rich quick scheme got punctured, I’m sure there’s another one out there. Cheers.

no worries. let me know if there's anything else you'd like help with besides selling cardboard for 40 times the retail cost.

I understand from time to time a rule may need to be changed, but the sheer amount of changes you guys have made in keyforges short lifetime points clearly to you weren't ready to release this game. The newest change about the "can't" and "must" interaction, you cost me over 400 dollars with that change. I had a deck with the lockout combo auctioning on eBay, now the bid has been cancelled and I can't Imagine anyone else paying that much now, and what about anyone who has already paid that much for that type of deck and no it doesn't even work. I would like a response to this from ffg so I know you are at least aware your screwing over your customers major.

The only thing it needs is a revised rule book. That thing is a hot mess. This game could definitely use a rules reference book as is now standard in FFG games. Other than that, the game is fine how it is.

Then you aren't likely aren't the target demographic for this game.
I don't see the logic in trying to alter the game to be what you want, rather than just accepting that it might not be a game for you and not play it.

Why would you want to play the game that is so extremely divorced from the design intent for the game when there are plenty of excellent games that are designed for exactly the format you are looking for?

More likely they can't talk about it, period. This is part of how contracts work. Look up non-disclosure agreements.

WotC can't dictate to FFG what games to create. They could however have withheld the licence.

Equally, Asmodee may have made the decision, as the parent company of FFG. Or Eurazeo, as the parent company of Asmodee (don't forget that Asmodee went up for sale recently, Eurazeo may have been looking to make the balance sheet as attractive as possible). Or Hasbro, as the parent company of WotC.

It's easy to cast blame about, but none of us were party to that decision, so it's just speculation unless we get an official statement (which is highly unlikely).

And yet others in the past have been annoyed when FFG print multiple copies of the Shards and Fragments, (for example) instead of printing more variety (like they did by including minifaction cards in this deluxe).

Seems like no matter what you do you can't win.

The revised core is a much more balanced "out of box" game than the original core, so if you can get one and want it as a boxed game by itself, I'd say go for it.

Nobody is coming to your house to burn all of your n-1th Edition products. If FFG releases something new, it’s because they think they can either make improvements and/or get the attention of new users.
As for Netrunner it’s unfortunate but if the license partner doesn’t want to continue the arrangement there is nothing they can do.

Every single thing FFG have done suggests they expected to get the licence renewed. They wouldn't have scheduled a Core 2.0 if they didn't expect it to be an entry point into a new metagame.
