frybender got a reaction from Raine in Let FFG know you want ANR Products - Sleeves, Resin IDs, etc.
I figured it had something to do with Caissa. Wow that is a really cool idea. Actually even if FFG doesn't do this I might just bring my own chess pieces and use them as tokens if I decide to actually run any of the cards.

frybender got a reaction from Marinealver in NR's future: Block Play? Ban/Limit Cards? What do YOU think?
In my opinion this is the blessing and the curse of LCGs. For bertter or for worse they will never be MtG.
You're right that a lot of cards from the Core Set are very good (the breakers, data suckers, account siphons) in order for different cards to force them out of your deck there would have to be a power creep that I don't think anyone wants to see. However just having a core set of cards does not mean that the meta is not evolving. In the last year alone for the runners it went from Noise shop pre C&C, to Katman right after, to Andy account datasuckers. And just because one deck is dominating doesn't mean the other ones aren't capable of winning tournaments. In the plugged-in tour in the middle of all the Andys and Kates there was a Whizzard deck that won. For the corp it's even more diverse as there are a number of different deck archetypes form HB FA to Weyland Tag-n-Bag to NBN never advance and let's not forget that this year's Gencon winner was Jinteki. So I think it's pretty clear that all kinds of different decks are capable of winning tournaments. And just because a particular deck is more popular then another one doesn't mean that it is absolutely stronger.
As far as replacing cards I disagree with you that every data pack has to have all 20 new cards to replace my old deck. In every data pack to date there have always been 1 or 2 different cards that I have gladly made room for in my decks. They enhanced my deck without fundamentally changing it which is what I think it should do. Slowly evolve a deck. As far as H&P is concerned I guarantee you that most Jinteki decks are going to want Mushin No Shin and Plan B, and you can definitely build a deck around chairman Hiro. And this is obviously just the tip of the iceberg. So again I think FFG is doing a great job of giving us more cards to play with without any crazy power creep where you have to keep buying data packs in order to keep up.
So back to my original statement that LCGs will never become MtG. The whole design of MtG is around making money. And I don't mean to be cynical about it. That's just the way it's built and people who participate in it know it and anticipate it. The fact that MtG is such a cash cow is not a bad thing either. The more profitable it is the more it allows WotC (and SCG and other smaller stores) to make bigger prize pools which creates much greater competition, which creates a proffesional scene, which means more tournaments, more content and just a much greater scene in general. This will never be the case for LCGs. There will never be enough money in it to sustain a professional circuit. Forcing the player base to buy a new core set every year or two would not alleviate this problem. Because it would still not make it nearly profitable enough to sustain the type of community that MtG has and it would turn most people off who started playing LCGs to not have to spend thousand of dollars to be competitive.
There is another problem with LCGs. In a couple of years when the entire card pool is a couple of thousand cards and in order for a new player to get in to it it will cost hundreds and hundreds of dollars it will become a barrier. But that's where the keeping the core set strong comes back in. This will allow a new player to start the game and be competitive from the get go without having to buy the entire card pool. They will be able to buy the core set, a deluxe expansion for the factions of their choice and a couple of data packs that have truly essential cards (Opening moves for the JH etc...) and be able to be competitive for ~$150 right away. That's why I love LCGs.
Sorry for the wall of text and the rambling. But I've thought about this a lot in the past and this seemed like a good place to post it.

frybender got a reaction from Zepaw in New Way to Play
Nothing you say is wrong (well a four player draft would cost you $25 dollars unless you were paying for all four people and even that would only be the first time and then it would be $80 but that's not what I even wanted to discuss) however again there is absolutely no need for anyone to play this who doesn't want to. The reason why this exists is because people were litteraly begging FFG to do this. The main "turn-off" of LCGs has always been "...but I can't do drafts and my favorite part about Magic has always been drafts" So FFG created a draft for those that were complaining. That's it. If you're an economical gamer (and there's nothing wrong with that) but still want to draft then please create your own cube from your collection and invite players to draft with you for free. But if you're an ex-magic guy who has a hankering for spending some dough on some cardboard then you can now do that without having to go back to Magic. Everyone wins.
Also I don't understand the whole waste factor. Perhaps you've never played Magic but in magic there would be maybe 1 card out of 5-10 booster packs that was worth keeping, the rest would usually be trash. I would either give my commons to whoever asked for them after the draft, or tape them to deck boxes, or make wallpaper out of them, or use them as coasters, or build awesome card houses out of them, or just do this. All of this can be done with netrunner cards just as well. Seriously if you know someone who is just starting to get into netrunner give them all of your extra cards you draft. That way you may help them get into the game faster and you'll have another person to play regular games with.

If a general multi-purpose console like that were to come out it would have to be even more powerful then Desperado and we don't want power creep in the game. However there are already consoles that suit a specific gameplay better then Desperado.

Well, I'd agree with the previous posters, but the problem is that Femme vs Chum has set an "encountered" precedent that confuses the issue. I'd send this one to FFG for greater clarification.

frybender got a reaction from skwizzle in I'm Looking to drop MTG FOR3V3R
The game has been crazy popular and is gaining new players all the time. Is it as popular as magic? Not even close. Will it ever be as popular as magic? Probably not. Living in Minneapolis are you in the best possible place for competitive Netrunner. Yes

I'd also like to add that not only can the ice be strength 0 it can be negative strength as well (and you still don't have to trash it). This is rare, but can be relevant for breakers like Atman.

frybender reacted to CommissarFeesh in Cards That Go In Every Deck?
I haven't run PAD or Opus in a deck for ages. I've made Weyland glacier decks without Jackson, and I've seen rush decks that prefer to use the influence for Anonymous Tip.
I've also run decks that don't use Sure Gamble or Hedge Fund.
I've just written (though have yet to test) an Iain Stirling deck that doesn't use Corroder.
There are no auto-includes.

frybender got a reaction from Ecomics21 in Tournament escalation
I disagree. The game of netrunner is a game of hidden information. A Weyland deck that doesn't run scorches (but pretends it does) and uses the deck slots for something else is a very powerful deck. But it can also rely on the fact that a runner will slow down in order to find the plascretes. I actually think that's a valid strategy to bluff having scorches in your deck. However if a runner knows for certain that you don't have scorches then they are at an unfair advantage. And the same thing applies for the runner. Knowing what breakers and tricks the runner has can give the corp a huge advantage and actually change the way they would play vs a deck they knew nothing about. So I highly disagree that a deck is supposed to win even if your opponent knows exactly what's in it. vs what's possible to be in it.

SOT basically forces the runner to float tags. So as long as the corp has some tag punishment SOT into AS is not that big a deal.

For #5 maybe a current that says select a scored agenda, that agenda's text area is blank. That way there is a way to get it back and it is usefully against more than astro script and nisai.

You can not host anything on a facedown card. Remember when a card is not rezzed it is inactive and therefore any abilities on it are inactive as well

frybender reacted to etherial in Proving a Rule Issue
There is a fundamental difference between a FAQ and a comprehensive rulings document. FFG has a very good instance of the former and steadfastly refuses to issue the latter.

frybender got a reaction from CommissarFeesh in Raymond Flint
When you score profiteering the runner has to access your HQ. In Netrunner an action has to fully resolve before a new ability can be activated ("avoid" and "prevent" actions are an exception). So all the effects from profiteering being scored (including the access) have to resolve before the runner has a chance to trash Raymond Flint.

frybender reacted to Grimwalker in Thematic Decks
Also, one thing I've noticed on your comment about " decks that are perfectly tweaked to win all the games ever."
In ANR, I don't think there's any such thing. There are some strong, even dominant, archetypes, but it's still extremely sensitive to player skill. I could put together the top decks in the world and they'll still have bad matchups. I could give the top decks in the world to someone with only moderate skill and kick their teeth in using Core Set only decks.
The fact that it's a level playing field from the beginning means that it's not plagued by expensive killer decks like the CCG games are.

frybender got a reaction from FeralDice in Jinteki - A Rookie Replicates Perfection
Jinteki is coming along nicely in terms of power but they are not quite there yet when compared with all of the other corporations. Their ice is not strong enough to withstand the kind of pounding that runners usually put on you. Both RP and PE can be played well and can certainly win you games but it will take more skill then playing with a different corporation.
The whirpool->chum->cell portal (or even better whirpool->chum->chum->cell portal) supported by corporate troubleshooter is pretty awesome when you can pull it off. The problem really does become that you won't be able to pull it off often enough to have a winning record in a tournament. Some people don't care about winning every game they play and there is nothing wrong with that. I just wanted to give you a heads up to not get discouraged.
Also you should definitely try playing with Caprice Nisei. I don't think she is as strong as some others seem to believe she is but she is certainly a very good card that can help you win games, especially in RP. If you're looking for something to cut I'd replace the Toshiyuki Sakais. As someone said in a review: you won a mind game and got the runner to run on something that wasn't an agenda. What does Toshyuki Sakai get you? Another mind game...

frybender got a reaction from Devon Greatwolf in Basically enchantments
So there are two different things that can be happening here depending on the card you're talking about. I'm guessing you're talking about "personal touch." In this case if the icebreaker that is hosting personal touch is trashed personal touch is trashed as well. However you may also be talking about dinosaurus. In that case the icebreaker is actually hosted on the dinosaurus and so if the icbreaker is trashed the dinosaurus stays in play. However if the dinosaurus is trashed the icebreaker that was hosted on the dinosaurus is trashed.

frybender reacted to Khouri in Restoring Face on Thomas Haas
As I understand it, no.
Once Restoring Face starts resolving there are no paid ability or rez windows so you cannot in response attempt to rez and/or trash cost activate Thomas.
Furthermore, if the trashing of effect Restoring Face is prevented or otherwise avoided you will not get the 2 bad publicity removed.
Sacrificial Construct is a special case because it is a prevent effect (and so can be used outside the normal timing windows "in response").
