Do we know how cheap he is? I would hope he is 21pts. Paying the same cost as a Saber and loosing the EPT to gain a pilot ability and a pilot skill may sound like a steal but would you really pay 22pts for him when you could get a royal guard pilot instead?
-
Nice catch! That definitely has not been spoiled yet.
Thats a super nifty ability, shame he can't get an EPT he would be super popular if he did. I may put him on the board once in a while anyway.

I played this swarm in the vassal tournament recently:
Howlrunner + swarm tactics
Mauler Mithel + vet instincts
Backstabber
Gundark
2x Black squadron + draw their fire
The generally high pilot skill threw people for a loop and DtF on the BSPs did a lot to help spread damage around and same the pilots I cared about.
Lately I have been trying to make a swarm that uses bombers with ordinance work.

it's not that I don't like the ship, but one of the things I like about this game is that the opposing sides play differently. I really would avoid just making them both mirrors of each other by providing both sides with the same ship set ups.
Imps are either elite hitters with glass cannon defense or overwhelming numbers. The Rebels are all mid spec ships that fall in the middle ground. They both play and feel different. I like that and adding the same options to both sides detracts from that.
I mostly agree with this except that the Shuttle and Firespray don't fit into this theory very well.
I don't think we will see another imp large ship until wave 5 or 6, certainly not until after the rebels have gotten a second or third one anyway.
I also have to say if you look through the ships in the game ships with 2 lasers have attack 2, ships with 4 lasers have attack 3. Probably the only things that make this screwy are the turrets on the HWK and Y-wing but those are turrets so we won't count them. Anyway I think that means that based on this ships weapon config its probably a 2 attack ship, which might be a bit of a dud on a big ship unless we made is really cheap.
Maybe 2atk, 2agi, 5 hull, 3 shields, 360 arc, large base, evade, target lock, focus, cannon, missile, missile, crew, crew, maybe a system. Cost that around the same as a lambda and give it a middle of the road dial and I think it is adding enough new things to the game that it could be interesting. If the generic one was costed at 20pts then you could have 4 naked ones with howlrunner, that could be an interesting list but wouldn't be broken. Alternatively it has a lot of potential for upgrades and you could maybe run 3 kitted out with upgrades.

So say a ship would land partially off the board but bumps another ship with the bit that is still partially on the board. The ship then moves backwards along the template and is no longer partially off the board (because thats the way the bump ended up). This ship hasn't actually flown off the board has it?
Correct. Only the final position of the ship actually matters.
Cool I assumed as much but I have just never thought of it before.

Wait! ridiculously rare hypothetical situation incoming....

I love that people consider picking your swarm tactics first when you have initiative some sort of horrible disadvantage. You still shoot first no matter what... you have to be tactically minded and make estimations of your opponents potential plays just as you would with dials. I personally think that having the rule for initiative be to always go first is simpler and thus better and clearer game design. Its a play of advantages and disadvantages where depending on your build you could want to or not want to have initiative for any variety of reasons. I would rather have this be the case instead of needing to wait for FAQ to determine who does what first or having some long list of confusing or subjective conditions.

I have 3 basic squint and I intend to get 2 IA boxes. I figure I will be fielding 3 ships with the Royal Guard title semi frequently so I would like the card. Also if I have 7 ties it means I can modify 3 to be proper Royal Guard Squints (with the extra fins) and have 4 as 181st pilots.
Also as others have pointed out escalation and epic tournament format are both coming so having more of a ship you really love won't hurt.

I question wether an x-wing will be in this pack or not. We are already going to see the x repaint in the transport with new pilots and presumably new upgrades. Also a-wings and y-wings need to get a treatment similar to the imperial aces box much more than an x-wing does.
-
I think a Tie Advanced box is greatly needed. At the moment I feel like the other Imperial ships are pretty much fine otherwise. Though more pilots for any of the ships never hurts.
-
Where did you get the images for the cards from? I've been looking for a template to make custom cards with and I would also be interested in the comics.
-
I have an extra oversized Han/Boba card also and am looking to trade for other unique cards, particularly oversized luke/vader, alt wedge, and alt lando. I would potentially be willing to trade both of my oversized cards to someone who was willing to trade the imperial dice bag.
PM me! Thanks!

The HLC would cost too much if it could do crits. Think of an HLC that could do crits v ties. That would end the predominance of the tie swarm pretty darn quick. As it stands now I kind of hate seeing an HLC across the table from my swarms as they ignore the range 3 bonus and they thwart my Draw their Fire shenanigans.

I would think this game will stay in print at least a little while after they stop making new content for it. Probably a good 4 or 5 years. FFG doesn't really ever just abandon board games and its likely we would just get a second edition of the game with all new cards and rules than see it abandoned all together. I would like to think this game has another 7 or so years of life in it but I guess we will see when the third trilogy hits the box office.

Where did you get the images to use for the card backgrounds?

I've started on my next side project, though I am going to make another couple of z-'Ceptors.
To go with my Asteroids I want a large scenery piece, probably between 13-17cms long. I'm planning a hidden Pirate Asteroid base. I'm going to build the core from blue insulation foam, and then carve out room for
- Internal light sorce. I've got a flickering yellow LED which I'm going to put in.
- Observation Deck
- Hanger, with modified patrol A-Wing (it's going to be fairly stuck together and UGLY), and transparent dome
- Hanger Door and landing strip
- Large underslung storage container, made out of a large Industial cylinder
- Sensor Arrays.
- Launch tubes for defensive ordnance.
- Docking arm, so you can dock a Freighter.
I've started casting up the grebling and othe parts I think I might need for it
Wow this sounds like it will be quite the project. Seems pretty large too. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing it. Do you have any sketched that we could maybe see?

notice how Garven, Biggs, and Dutch don't have an elite upgrade option... is it because they didn't survive the trench run??
You know thats actually OK Logic.
Rebel Pilots with EPT: Wedge, Luke, Tycho, Ten, Ibtisam, Lando, Chewie, Han, Horton
They all survived the deathstar battle they participated in
Rebel Pilots without EPT: Garvin, Biggs, Dutch, Arvel
They did not
This is maybe the most hilarious little design tidbit ever.
Unfortunately, Horton can't take an EPT, so that theory falls through...
Yeah I realized that after I turned the computer off last night. But 12 out of 13 is still pretty good.

There is no evidence that there will even be a rebel counterpart. The Aces could be because the rebels are getting the transport and Tantive 4.
And are getting some of their own "aces" in the Gallofree kit, Janson and "Hobbie". Plus, I'm crossing my fingers for a generic PS 5 Rogue Squadron Pilot.
That would be would be a rubbish compromise for the Imperials. I feel like that is a decision that will only serve to make people unhappy on both sides. They really need to at least announce that one is coming farther down the road. I will be getting all three expansions but I would be sorely disappointed if we don't see Imperial big ships it the not to distant future, and rebel aces has potential to inject a lot into regular play so I think it would be a miss if we didn't see that either.

Assault missile: "If this attack hits each other ship at Range 1 of the defender suffers 1 damager"
Draw their Fire: "When a friendly ship at Range 1 is hit by an attack you may suffer one of the uncancelled [crit] results instead of the target ship."
I would say answer "a". The ship targeted is the one being "hit" and is the "defender" which are the two qualification for the AM. DtF only serves to allow a ship to "suffer" a damage instead of the ship its targeting, the card still requires the ship to be "hit" by an attack. The ship with DtF is never actually "hit", nor does it ever actually become the "defender", so thus the AM would never use it as the origin.
Option "c" is right out!

Tetran would be a good choice. I knew Derricote did pilot a fighter with a good kill amount, that is why I thought he could be the 8 PS as he was a former leader of the 181st. Glad to see another knows there EU canon.
Lol, wookiepedia is also a wonderful thing. I mean I spend a lot of time researching the EU so I knew both Derricote and Yage when you initially posted but I unfortunately have never had the opportunity to actually read the media they appear in.
I'm not sure Derricote would be a PS8 though. I guess it depends on what kind of ability he is given. If its a leadership style ability (which I don't think so) then I would expect a PS8, but I am more expecting PS7 and some sort of personal pilot ability.
-
Derricote did pilot an interceptor in a couple battles and racked up a decent kill count in the few he participated in. I think he could be on of the two pilots thought I'm not sure he will be.
-
Minor point but they look like PS5 & PS7 to me. Which would make the set contain unique pilots with PS 5, 6, 7 & 8, which does seem likely.
Dont they usually put lower pilot skills on the left though? The 181st pilot on the left is definitely a 7 so that would mean they broke the pattern.
Generics, 4 then 6
181st, 7 then ?
Royal Guard, 6 then 8
-
I think we will eventually see pilots in other ships. It will only be ships they actually flew though. So Wedge in an a-wing, Tycho and Ibtisam in x-wings, Vader in a tie fighter, Maarek in an Interceptor. Those would be some of what I would expect. And I would think they would gain new abilities that fit with the ship they are flying. It would be more interesting to get more variety opposed to just cloned abilities in different ships.

Full bleed on the cards? That would be super awesome happy times, we could get them printed out a cut up at a kinkos or etc. then and get like a set to use for tournaments or campaigns.
