Agatheron got a reaction from hikari_dourden in Falling Damage - Ten foot fall knocks you unconscious?
I'd consider falling 10 feet "Engaged" rather than "Short" --remember ranges are flexible and are not necessarily fixed.

Agatheron got a reaction from capnhayes in E-Web vs. YT-1300
Split Light is right.
Keep in mind that in ESB, the troops were bringing in that weapon not to take down ships, but to take out ground troops before they could board the ship. Whether or not Solo or the Snowtroopers knew that the Falcon's armour could fend off blasts from the E-Web, Solo and Chewbacca had just spent a lot of time repairing the ship, and the repairs were not complete. As such, the E-Web could have harmed the Falcon or the environment around it enough so that it could not have taken off (a triumph roll), which is all that was necessary. Needless to say, Han shot first

Agatheron got a reaction from StriderZessei in Smuggling Compartments and Encumbrance Capacity
Keep in mind, at a personal level, a backpack and utility belt increases a person's encumbrance threshold. Crates, for example, are very likely to do the same thing on a starship scale. A blaster rifle might have an encumbrance of 4, which means that a Yt-1300 could only carry 42 of them loose before the hull is full. In crates it'd be different.
I'm also thinking that starship encumbrance is different from personal encumbrance... Like starship damage is a multiple of 10, I think starship encumbrance is also multiplied by 10... 420 blaster rifles sounds about right as a full cargo for a YT-1300...

Agatheron got a reaction from Kzloy in Tokens/miniatures in your games
Truthfully? I use Lego if we need a visual representation I have a collection of Star Wars minifigs, and while we've not had to use them, my crew likes the fact that they could build their own character from the Lego pieces I have.
As for a "map" I have two large grey lego bases that we generally make use of.

Agatheron got a reaction from Mark Caliber in Playing a Mandalore.
I don't see anything wrong with someone wanting to be a Mandalore, as others have said, they're human by all appearances. they can choose obligation and motivation to reflect their background. However, if its an excuse to say that they auto-get the cool armour and gadgets, one the armour is restricted and unavailable to starting characters, and two, no amount of extra obligation can get them to a point of acquiring it.
So they'd be a Mandalore without the Mandalorian armour... Which is still a neat concept.

Agatheron got a reaction from bradknowles in Quick Question: Soak and Critical Hits
Donovan has it right... the harder part is how this applies to vehicle scale. I'm of the mind that if one success gets past the armour, even if it's not enough to do a full point of hull trauma, a critical can still be triggered.
For example, a Heavy Blaster rifle against a vehicle with an armour value of 1 does 11 points of damage and generates enough advantage to trigger a critical. 10 pts is needed to get past the armour, with 1 point left over, that's not enough to do hull trauma, but in my view the 1 point of damage still "gets through" and therefore is able to trigger a crit.
Of course, I could be wrong, but that's my take on it.

Agatheron got a reaction from Tefmon in Desperate Allies
Fair point, how often did we see a Neimodian actually fire a weapon that they were holding?
-
Agatheron got a reaction from Tefmon in Desperate Allies
That'd be Gungans, not Neimodians. Back to the subject: I think the character and equipment options for this book will be really cool. I'm even looking forward to the Neimodians as they're cousins to the Duros.

Agatheron got a reaction from Jiwestone in The Krayt Fang as a Tabletop Miniature
Anyone who frequents the X-wing boards might have seen this, but I thought I would post it here now that it is all done.
I wanted to take one of the X-wing miniature game YT-1300/Millennium Falcon models and repaint it to resemble the Krayt Fang. The picture from the map seems to have the hull as a general rust-brown with a couple darker brown panels. I wanted to vary it up a bit, and decided that anywhere that wasn't shown on the map could also be the basic YT hull colour. This is how my repaint turned out:
I'm fairly happy with it. It looks old and beat up, as one might expect under the care of a Trandoshan Slaver.
Here's the thread about how I went about painting it:

Agatheron got a reaction from Odanan in Fly Casual!!
I've not received notification that my writers copy is on the way. Honestly, I'm looking forward to getting my hands on it for all the stuff I didn't write My role in this book was smaller in comparison to the other writers.

Agatheron got a reaction from Sarone in SoT new TIEs
The reality is you can stick with the movies and books if you choose, it's your game. It seemed appropriate that a book on Aces needed some more Starfighter options more than any other book in the line

Agatheron got a reaction from bradknowles in Galaxy Map, could we please be able to download it?
This is the one that you'll find in the essential atlas. I'd recommend picking up the book, as it is excellent.

Agatheron got a reaction from Colin1012 in How complex is the Beginner Box - would it be good to introduce RPGs to kids with?
My daughter is 8 going on 9, but reads at a grade 5-6 level. She's been pestering me about doing the AoR Beta, which I will do. One of my gaming buddies has two sons that are slightly older, so the plan is that we'd do something together using the AoR box set a a starter, while my regular crew does EotE.
The mechanics are pretty easy to get, but some of the vocabulary you might need to do some backtracking on.

Agatheron got a reaction from bradknowles in Wearing more than 1 armor?
This discussion came up quite some time ago, and the consensus at the time was that Armor values don't stack, but if one is wearing multiple armors (ie. heavy clothing & a blast vest), you would only get the benefit of the better of two armours. So if 1 armor type was armor 1, defense 1, and the other was armor 2 and defense 0, the net result would be armor 2, defense 1.
But you'd have encumbrance issues too...

Agatheron got a reaction from bradknowles in Pilot Action To Avoid Stellar Phenomena or Terrain
Don't forget that the Stellar Phenomenon rules are there as a "go to" roll when conditions really are hazardous. Han Solo wasn't doing much else other than yanking on the controls when being pursued by four tie fighters through a hyper-dense asteroid field. These rules provide guidelines for the difficulty of a given action. However, if an action has a set difficulty, such as making a combat check on a similar-sized ship, then that's where you start throwing in 1-3 setback dice to account for the terrain.

Agatheron got a reaction from whafrog in Pilot Action To Avoid Stellar Phenomena or Terrain
Functionally, avoiding the terrain is the action, as opposed to a maneuver, so yes, its the only action they get. However, if I may flog my own work a bit, in "Stay on Target" it gives suggestions on how Advantage/Threat/Triumph/Despair can be spent in space combat when taking such actions. So it is possible that the pilot is only pulling off piloting actions in Stellar Phenomena, but roll well enough and you're inflicting damage on ships chasing you.

Agatheron reacted to Wraithdt in The Gladiotor has landed on my doorstep! Wave 1 imminent.
I didn't order this from anywhere. I got this straight from FFG as I'm the artist who did the box art for it:)

Agatheron got a reaction from Kager in Where are the Star Wars FFG resources? Nothing has come out... nothing!
It depends on what you consider resources. They have put out Specialization Talent Decks, for example, which are decent, but not everyone's cup of tea. I personally like them, and my players find them helpful as a resource.
In terms of lack of maps and player chits, I think this is deliberate. Star Wars RPG doesn't need maps or chits to be able to run. The last time we played, while I had lego figures set up, we were playing around a set of couches, and simply had a tray to roll dice into... that was pretty much it. My crew liked it because it was a bit more like how we played D&D eons ago without any sort of miniatures or a grid.
That having been said, I wouldn't mind various maps and such, but it's not essential. I am curious to see what sorts of other resources are out there.

Agatheron got a reaction from Lyraeus in Using Oil-based and Enamel Washes
The transformational book for me was actually a GW book: "Imperial Armour: Model Masterclass vol 1" --inspired me to take the plunge. There are some great techniques out there. One that I'd highly recommend is Michael Fichtenmayer's "Fichtenfoo" website. He does a lot of sci-fi stuff, including the same scale Millennium Falcon I'm working on.
http://fichtenfoo.net/blog
I'd be curious to see how he'd handle Armada repaints...

Agatheron got a reaction from patrious in Speed=0: Can't use defense tokens, Why?
The defense tokens available for the most part assume some degree of motion on the part of the ship. Redirecting damage to another shield could involve angling into the incoming attack so as to have it hit shields on an angle, for example. Evade is pretty obvious. You can't evade if you're standing still. Scatter, for TIE Fighters is a movement by definition. The only one that could conceivably be used when at speed 0 could be "Brace for Impact." Even then, a "brace for impact" assumes that there is some degree of motion taking place.

Agatheron got a reaction from Icareane in Using Oil-based and Enamel Washes
Hi Everyone,
I've not actually started my Armada Miniatures, but I have every intention to. The general advice to make details pop on the existing models is to make use of GW's Nuln Oil as a wash. It yields some decent, if dark results. For most miniature work, acrylic washes are definitely the way to go.
I've been fortunate to have experimented with and am now comfortable using oils or enamel washes (usually MIG productions stuff) to bring out the detail on my models.
The advantage to oils is that the longer dry time allows for a more precise application, and the capillary action renders the shading lines created by these washes much thinner than they would be with the acrylic washes. In other words, it helps keep the scale of the ship looking large.
Here's a Revell model kit Venator that I painted up last year. First, after all the acrylic paint and decals had been applied, but without the pin washes:
And after using Mig Productions "Cold Grey Wash":
As you can see, the detail stands out nicely.
A couple things to remember about oils, however:
1. Always apply the washes over gloss coats. In other words, paint the model to how you want it, spray it down with testor's glosscoat, or a tamiya gloss clear first.
2. Don't slop the paint over the whole model like an acrylic wash. Instead use a smaller brush, and touch it to the details you want to stand out, the washes will work their way into position by capillary action. If need be brush some thinner (use odourless thinner!!) over the model first, and this will help the washes work their capillary magic.
3. After about 15 minutes, use a paper towel over your finger to rub down the surfaces to remove excess wash from the facing surfaces, leaving the pigment in the cracks and around detail.
4. Let dry for at least 24 hours, and then spray down with a matte clear coat. Usually testor's dullcote is the best for this kind of thing.
There's a lot of other things that can be done with oils. It's telling that there is actually an oil paint out there called "Starship Filth." I've used it on my various Millennium Falcon models.
Here's an example of this type of wash being used on an X-wing miniature with similar texture to the Armada ships:
Hopefully I'll start doing my own Armada stuff soon... but I have Imperial Armour miniatures to paint, plus a 1/72 Millennium Falcon to finish as well...
