My favs are the Yin Brotherhood, and the Arborec (both of these are in the expansion sets.) The Yin's ram ability terrifies people, and I can usually get a nice and obscene build limit with the Arborec
Oddly enough, the one I always do poorly with is the Yassaril. Part of that might be that everyone knows how broken they are, so you are instantly the boards enemy, but maybe I just stink at em.

Hersh has the right of this. The die face that looks like an exploding planet counts red or black, whichever is more beneficial to you (but has an entirely different meaning outside of combat). The only thing I can add is that combat also requires you to make pyew-pyew noises and an occasional Wilhelm scream.
Wilhelm scream? DAMMIT, i missed that. No wonder I've been getting pwnd.

Tibs speaks truth. And, to be honest, that's a much better option than 2 investigators cursed.
edit: in before grammar police!

Are there any monsters or encounters that require multiple successes for an evade check? Just curious.

The player with the maximum influence, if still not broken - the player with the maximum starting influence (Latari).
Ah yes, quite right. And there you have it.

in the event everyone bids zero, then the result is a tie. Thus whoever holds Primarch of the Wizards Council title would decide the outcome. I don't recall who breaks ties if no-one holds that title card, tho.

you would not get the war sun tech. The action card states "acquire or purchase." It is not interested in how you would get the tech, it squashes the tech. So, sir, vote HELLNO and pray it carries.

A good rule of thumb with FFG (and really all board games when you get down to it) is when a card contradicts the rule book, the card takes precedence.

I think the keyword here is that the Van Haugh CAN use GFs as fighters. This does not mean it must. This decision must, of course, be made before any dice are rolled, but if he chooses to use them as fighters, then ALL rules for fighters apply. Meaning they could get Destroyer barraged, soak the dreadnought hits, any Tech that affect fighters affect the GFs as well, and you must check for capacity after the fight as usual.
Yes this makes the Van Haugh mighty as hell, but it's a flagship and is supposed to be.

oh hell yeah. Will sell soul for B5 flavored TI3.

Assembly does have a hand, but since you can use political cards as trade goods, nobody ever has any. Anybody tried house ruling that out of the game?
-
It's not much of a tweak, but the people I typically play with have found the political aspect of the game lacking. What we usually do is have 5 political cards face up during play. When the political strategy action is taken the player gets to pick one of the 5 for the council (and representatives) to vote on. Makes being the one who actually takes the political strategy card a bit more relevant and allows the players to potentially anticipate and prepare for potential agendas.
That's a pretty strong house rule. Do you do that with just the political card or do you use Assembly that way too?
-
When someone activates the Leadership strategy card, everyone else has the opportunity to buy up to 3 command counter for 2 influence each. A 0-2 planet is ALWAYS used in this way, since the leadership card is always taken by somebody. I've played many a game of TI3 and have yet to see that strategy card go unpicked.

incidentally that works both ways. if you have 3 cities but only one warp storm, you would be limited to a lvl 1 upgrade.

Wait, so routed units don't add their dices to the combat? If you attack an army with 1 routed unit and one non-routed unit, only the non-routed unit adds their combat dices?
yes this is correct
