"The Emperor is coming here...?"
I've added Emperor Palpatine to my builder (URL in sig). Since he takes up two crew slots, when you equip him one of the other available crew slots will be disabled. If you don't have enough room, you won't be able to equip him.
As always, let me know about bugs, suggestions, etc. etc.
(So when are we going to see a 4-crew slot Jabba the Hutt?)
Edit: typo

Anyone know of any regionals streaming today?
There's a regional at FFG today, right? Looks like they're streaming now: http://www.twitch.tv/ffglive

If it could be implemented in something free and cross-platform like Google Sheets, even better.

The amount of sloppiness by the XXB player is painful. Not steadying the template, bumping the template everywhere, pushing the ship back past where it should have been, and picking up the ship and placing it forward without using a template on a straight bump -- at the top tables, you shouldn't be seeing stuff like this.

The four most important words in every successful house project are "F@#! it, good enough"I'm no plumber and I spend half my time swearing whenever I try to do som plumbing

Not so much for software projects of course.
Oh, I wouldn't be so sure about that.

I think saying "we're not making any more X-Wing stuff ever again" is the worst thing they could do.
I hope not. That's the single worst thing FFG could do.Think wave 7 will be like wave 5. Pre-release at GenCon and wide release November.
"We have transferred the IP license to WizKids."
Touché.

I missed the memo stating aggressive, math-wing, meta-lobotomized competitive play was the only way to play the game.
It's over here: https://community.fantasyflightgames.com/index.php?/topic/176115-mathwing-killing-diversity-in-the-game-since-2014/

It would be nice if everyone could just agree on a naming convention for obstacles and start using those. Maybe display the name in the middle of the appropriate silhouette.
I'm thinking something simple like using A1-A6 for the Asteroids and using D1-D6 for the Debris fields. Once the standard is set it would make communicating (and tracking) which obstacles are being used more convenient.
I'd like to go with Fab's suggestion for obstacle naming (which I've proposed to add to the XWS spec for canonicalization): https://community.fantasyflightgames.com/index.php?/topic/130950-x-wing-list-juggler/page-12#entry1613903

Hi all,
I've added the option to include obstacle silhouettes to the printouts from Yet Another Squad Builder (URL in my sig), so you can circle the ones you're using when you go to a tournament. By default, this option is off.
This is an interim solution while I figure out a way to save the obstacles as part of the squad list (really, a way for you to specify the obstacles that doesn't suck when you're using your phone).
As always, feedback, suggestions, bug reports etc. are welcome.

Now I kinda wish the ship were named the TIE Castigator.

They don't use formulae. They did in the earlier waves, especially with EPTs and pilot skill, but since Wave 3 that's gone out the window. Most of the stuff you can gauge "by eye" fairly easily, and from there it's done by extensive playtesting.
It's inevitable, so I might as well do it... What's your source on that?
I believe it was mentioned in the interview with Alex and Frank a couple months ago? But I don't recall exactly.

Thanks for the condescension, it's uncalled for.
Sure thing. These are the forums, after all.
Again, the issue is of course - what is the purpose of Mathwing. I object to the concept that it's somehow related to giving the game developers feedback. I believe that's elevating the purpose of Mathwing beyond what it really is - player analysis designed for player use.
I don't want to speak for MajorJuggler, but he has on occasion expressed that his model could have been used to augment development and playtesting:
(These are from a cursory Google search.)

Except you made a specific claim. When you say "Oh, that's Mathwing" I read that you're claiming that the purpose of 'Mathwing' is a tool that is designed and provided to the game developers to take care of Meta problems.
Uh, no?
The way to address stagnant metas is to give the devs accurate, relevant feedback so that they can incorporate that when putting balance tweaks into the next wave. Some of the most relevant feedback is statistical analysis of the ships, combined with tournament results and trends.
Oh, that's MathWing.
(Emphasis mine)
Antecedents are hard, I know.

Here is how I will be breaking down "SuperFat" vs "Fat" for tracking later. For reference, Top 8 lists are currently 70% "Fat" and 55% "Super Fat".
For future tracking - definition of "Fat" vs "Moderately Obese"
Maybe we should come up with a formula that spits out a single scalar value to measure fatness. Call it a Build Maximization Index, or "BMI" for short.

This has devolved into into the all too common scenario where two parties argue pointlessly back and forth in an effort to demonstrate to the crowd at large who is "right". Meanwhile the crowd largely doesn't care and just wants it to end.
As an uninvolved and and unbiased neutral party, I declare WonderWAAAAAGH the winner so we can all go about our day.
I'm also uninvolved and unbiased, and I think you're wrong. TIE Pilot is the real winner here, and I'll be willing to argue that point for several pages.
The proper thing to do is to start a separate but nearly identical thread and rehash the same arguments there.

Emphasis mine:
I've won with three deltas before as have loads of others so obviously maths isn't deciding squat.

And yet 9 hull autoceptor lists with the exact same number of attacks have been doing great against turret lists.

New players pick up the game, gaze in awe at the wealth of options available, join a forum to find out more and are told "yeah, don't use that unless you want to lose."
That's a bold statement. I'd guess the vast majority of new players just play the game instead of checking the forums for what they should play.
People give MathWing way too much credit for shaping the meta. If there were some list archetype that could be consistently successful that wasn't predicted by MathWing, I suspect we'd have seen it by now given the number of Store Championships played. (There are nearly 3,000 lists entered in List Juggler, and that's only from voluntary reporting.) I highly doubt every competitive player is a mindless slave to MathWing.

Guys, can you run me real quick the squad importation procedure you'd use for a cryodex fueled tournament?
What do I tell my fellow players in terms of preparation prior to the event?
What can I quickly scan when they arrive to play the tournament?
I understood there was a push to do it via a QR code, is that finalized?
Is simply taking the voidstate squad # the current way to do things, while you add players to your tournament in cryodex?
My main goal is to save myself the 30-60 minute amount of work I have to do with the pile of printed squad papers after the event is done, where I manually recreate the squads under YASB and get a link for each player while I punch info into List Juggler.
Do you mean quick loading into Cryodex? Don't think we have that going just yet.
If we could set up a quick export from List Juggler to Cryodex, though, we might have something, since you could scan the QR code in the YASB printout/punch in the Voidstate ID to load players and lists into List Juggler fairly quickly. How easy would it be to create a Cryodex tournament from a List Juggler export?
Would be cool if geordanr could automate this process in YASB and offer a "get Voidstate squad ID" button in the export popup

Except I think you need a Facebook login to get a Voidstate ID, which complicates the process.
I coded it up and tried it on my laptop webcam which is a 6 year old laptop and it took forever to read the qr code for www.google.com. QR codes are neat, but for something less than 10 characters long it just doesn't make sense.
I wouldn't encode full XWS in QR, but a URL that could return XWS. Much smaller and easier to scan. The QR in my printout scans easily on my phone in remarkably low light conditions.
Hey geordan, I had a issue to report to you:
When I use your website on my mobile phone (android, chrome browser) and want to access the bottom tabs which say 'All', 'Standard', 'Epic', etc, I can't reach them because they're usually at the end of a now long list of squads and I can't quite scroll to there. I can thus never click on 'Epic', away from 'All'. I'm forced to use 'All' forever.
Ooh, I'll look into that.
-
I'd like to add this image to the XWS spec as a reference, if that's all right.

Ooh, good catch. I'll fix that tonight.
(But why would you ever switch out Palpatine?)
