Not even close Let's pretend the TIE Hunter and TIE Oppressor never existed.

FFG's "OT-only rights" is a myth that was busted, so you are wrong about that. Their cooperation with LFL gives them a pretty far reach. They've used stuff from the prequel trilogies already, in addition to multiple other video games and print sources.

I wouldn't worry about it.

Nice, I didn't notice that before! Look like an early Mig, could be the third faction is the Russians . In Soviet Empire, Force uses YOU! Looks a bit like a MiG 1.44, actually.

A'baht's inclusion in an E-Wing might lend some credence to the possibility of a K-Wing next time around. I wouldn't mind the Outrider, but I will rage quit if they make a Lady Luck. Stupidest ship ever.

The beauty of the Z-95 is that it was a modular platform. There are split S-foil versions, twin cannons, quad cannons, 4 or 2 engines or somewhere in between, missile boats, couriers, etc. It's not just that it's a cheap ship that's TIE equivalent for the Rebel swarm, or a knockoff X-Wing. It really is a unique craft on its own, on merit of the roles it can fill. If the X-Wing was an F-15 (strike/interceptor), the Z-95 would be an F-16 (multirole).

Great article. Ion cannon makes sense for the Defender in the context of the games it came from.
-
Phantom was featured in EaW, so technically that's two games.
-
This is excellent news. Those are some good-looking ships.

Great game, but I was never a fan of that ship. Glad to see it was reduced to 250m from 600m, but the windows on the front make it look like it's Millennium Falcon-sized. Even worse were the Rebel Marauder and Imp Missile Boat. You can't take an R-41 Starchaser or a 2-M Saber-class repulsor tank and blow it up to 200 meters and call it a corvette. You have to scale these things, son. I still go through EaW at least once a year. I hope the concept is revisited soon.

Big fan of all six films here, plus most of the Clone Wars TV series (mostly the parts when there were spacecraft on screen). My preference would be a new set, separate enough to not make the OT purists feel obligated to buy, but similar enough to field both eras at once in a non-tournament setting. I hope FFG jumps into this eventually.
-
My advice—tell her plainly what it would mean to you if she'd consider giving it a try.
-
If she turns you into a newt, that's a dead giveaway.

Excellent, absolutely wonderful.

I do too.

I'm worried this will be a Galactic Civil War-era version of The Old Republic's 'Galactic Starfighter' expansion. I enjoy that well enough, but there isn't much to it at all. PVP is boring if that's a game's only feature. I was hoping after all this time (big fan of the TIE Fighter series) they'd have something more like a flight sim and less like an arcade game. I'd kill for an epic campaign, single-player, co-op, rich backstory. And I've always wanted a sim that made the X-Wing feel more like a WWII fighter, like it might just fall apart if you don't take care of it (remember the movies?), something visceral and weathered and elemental... instead of just magically floating around and 'pew pew pew'. X-Wing/TIE fighter games were great for their complexity and depth (controls, story, 3D space)—Rogue Squadron for its immediately pleasing aesthetic (sight, sound, and feel). A Star Wars combat sim with all of those elements has yet to be made. Still, as long as B-Wings feature in someday, I will play it gladly.

Don't entirely agree with that, Ansel's version of the TIE Defender is beautiful ship design Also a big fan of the YT-2400, though that actually appeared in the remastered movies, but it was EU long before that The Star Viper is also very nice But I would say that a lot of the EU ships are not brilliant design.. the Y-Tie makes no sense at all, and a lot of the [random letter]-Wings aren't well designed at all. Excellent picks. One right after the other. I hope to see all 3 of these (although I prefer the Decipher CCG/Empire at War versions of the TIE Defender—little bit shorter panels) In my opinion the T-Wing is an ugly little ship and I hope it never shows up in this game or any other. Give us a Z-95 and we'll call it good.

Just to be clear (and though I think 8 shield value for any starfighter is game-breaking ridiculous), my comment wasn't meant to be un-civil. Irreverant and a little silly, but nothing more.
-
They look excellent. Makes me want a Republic-era version of this game even more.
-
3/3/2/3 with upgrades, or GTFO.
-
My thoughts are still that it shouldn't be able to evade.
-
Inquisitor and Lackwit's Vigilant sound the most appropriate.
-
I would eliminate the evade ability. To quantify; this ship is allegedly 21m tall (around 60-70 feet, which seems a little excessive). It will not manouevre like a TIE, it's more in the assault shuttle territory.

This comes up every few months. Some prequel material (along with game, book, and comic EU material) was used in this game already. Senator's Shuttle and Seismic Charges being the two examples off the top of my head. I don't think licensing is much of a consideration; meaning I don't think it's as black and white as "prequel license = yes/no". They'll almost certainly get the green light, if they want it. I think the leading theory is that if a Republic-era game is made, it won't be exactly considered an expansion. That should make it easy enough for anyone to exercise the option—bear with me here—not buy it. There is approximately no way it would result in X-Wings and N-1 frolicking together in any setting, outside of individual households. I enjoyed the prequels (a totally valid opinion, which you likely don't care about), along with [statistically] over half of the people who watched them. And—granted—many people didn't like them (an equally-valid opinion, which I equally don't care about). But seriously, you guys don't think that whimpering about Lucas ruining your childhood isn't, like, a decade old at this point?? It's neither soon enough to be relevant, nor distant-past enough to give you vintage hipster cred. Get a life. Just chill.
