Rettere got a reaction from Cpt ObVus in Resistance XXX + ?: a fun entry point to Resistance
Lately we have been playing PizzaWing and WingWing in Alameda, CA - meeting at Domino's and ordering wings. Before COVID, of course.
I miss PizzaWing.

Rettere got a reaction from nitrobenz in Leia + BB-8
Really the discussion over timing, intention, etc is not necessary. We have the Rules Reference Q&A which itemizes when the maneuver is considered blue (During the execute maneuver step and for effects that trigger AFTER the maneuver). If its not on the itemized list then it doesn't work.
BB-8 triggers before. Before is not on the list. Therefore BB-8 doesn't work. If the people who write the rules want the interaction to work, just add the word "before" to the Rules Ref answer on this subject.

Rettere reacted to Lyianx in Leia + BB-8
Kinda sucks you'll be going to an event where the head judge makes poor rulings then.
Do we really need to (again) break out the dictionary on this?
If it BB-8 happened during, it would say "During" or "While".
There is a specific timing statement that is a mix of both "Before" and While/During". Its called "At the start of.." which means it happens at the very top of that timing window *while inside* that timing window.
BB-8 and Leia do not combo. Any TO or Judge who says otherwise is incorrect.

Rettere got a reaction from DR4CO in Leia + BB-8
uh... wow. So people are really doubling down on the argument that “before you execute a maneuver” happens “during the execute maneuver step”.
I feel like there’s not much more room for rational discussion at this point, other than to point out that for most people, “before X,” “during X,” and “after X” are all mutually exclusive conditions. And two of these conditions are listed in the FAQ entry regarding Leia. And the other one of these conditions is on BB-8. 🤔

LOL now I've seen everything on these forums. "Before X" = "During X".

Rettere reacted to Korrova in Leia + BB-8
I'm saying that Leia applies during the entirety of the Execute Maneuver Step, and that the step encompasses more than just executing the maneuver.
Execute Maneuver: The ship executes the maneuver selected on the revealed dial. A ship can execute a maneuver by resolving the following steps in order: 1. Maneuver Ship: During this step, the ship moves using the matching template. a. Take the template that matches the maneuver from the supply. b. Set the template between the ship’s front guides (so that it is flush against the base). c. Pick up and place the ship at the opposite end of the template and slide the rear guides of the ship into the template. d. Return the template to the supply. 2. Check Difficulty: During this step, if the maneuver is red, the ship gains one stress token; if the maneuver is blue, the ship removes one stress token and one strain token and one deplete token.
BB-8 triggers just before executing the maneuver, which is during the Execute Maneuver Step, after the dial is revealed, but before the maneuver is executed.

This is correct in general, but for this specific case, the interaction of Leia with effects that trigger on a maneuver IS “strictly in the rules” on page 33 of the RRG, and it is clear that effects that trigger before a maneuver are not included:
A: R4 Astromech and Damaged Engine (and other constant effects that
alter the difficulty of a maneuver, such as Nien Nunb [Crew], L3-37's
Programming, and Leia Organa [Rebel and Resistance, Crew]) apply only
during the Execute Maneuver step and for effects that trigger after that
ship executes a maneuver.
There’s not even really any interpretation to do here - the Leia card is mentioned specifically, the word “only” is used, and BB-8 does not occur during the execute maneuver step, and does not trigger after executing a maneuver.

Rettere got a reaction from nitrobenz in Kaz vs. Zizi
Here’s the link to a rules discussion, I don’t think it works. (I wish it did).
edit: the basic argument is that the RRG says Leia and other things like R4 only apply to effects that trigger “during or after” the maneuver, and BB-8 is before and not during or after, therefore it doesn’t work.

Rettere reacted to thespaceinvader in Stealth device question
I'm not being sarcastic. FFG will not answer this question, becaue the answer is unambiguously printed in the rulebook already.
Suffering Damage is an activity that occurs when you take an uncancelled [hit] or [crit] from any source. Its result is either flipping a shield to its inactive state if you have any active shields, or being dealt a damage card, face down if it was a [hit] or face up if it was a [crit], if you have no active shields. It is this, and only this, that causes Stealth Device to break.
Damaged is a state, that of having damage cards currently assigned.
Critically Damaged is a state, that of having face up damage cards currently assigned.
Shielded is a state, that of having active shield tokens.
All of these have opposites, Undamaged, Unshielded, and Not Critically Damaged respectively.
The act of Suffering Damage can affect any or all of these states, but is not directly, or always even causally, connected to any or all of them - you can become Damaged by having a card dealt directly (e.g. by Seyn Marana's ability or by Explosion with Wings), you can become Critically Damaged by having a card flipped (e.g. by R2-D2 crew or Concussion Missiles) and you can become Unshielded by spending or being forced to lose shield tokens (e.g. by Miranda Doni's ship ability, or Plasma Torpedoes). And in all cases, there are ways to reverse those conditions, too, e.g. R5 Astromech repairing your only damage card (assumign that card is facedown), R2 Astromech recovering a shield, any Crit card action repairing your only face up crit.
These game terms are all unambiguously defined, and FFG tends not to FAQ things which are unambiguous, and never answers threads like these directly either way.
I wouldn't deny that Suffering Damage could have been better named, to avoid this kind of misunderstanding, probably by defining 'one or more [hit] or [crit] symbols' with a symbol of its own and using that symbol instead of the word 'Damage' in that instance, which would have been a useful drafting tool in general given how often it comes up, but there's no ambiguity at all as to what any of these terms mean or how they interrelate.

Rettere reacted to Tyhar7 in X-Wings: Why am I so bad at them?
One of my primary pieces of advice is to never meet a joust straight on with a group T-70's, even if the set up in front of you and it's favourable for you. I will bank into the edge of the board and then hard 2 back for the engagement. You obviously may loose a couple of arcs on some ships but usually you will still have all arcs on one or 2. Which is more than enough to focus on for an open engagement.
This then gives me more options for the next turn, if I think they are going to K-turn behind I can turn hard 2 back and then focus barrel roll back to target. If the distance is still moderate and I'm going second I usually have all of my K-turns and talons available. If I'm first I can push one forward for the block and leave the other back to 1 forward and focus BR back to block a Talon roll.

Rettere got a reaction from Flurpy in Resistance XXX + ?: a fun entry point to Resistance
I ran this Nodin last night. It's bad. Really bad. If it is coordinating (which is why you are bringing it) it can never stop or back up. Nodin basically has an ability that switches off the entire point of the ship which is the wonky dial. It's like flying a B-wing with coordinate and no options to turn around. I'm just sticking with Cova-Leia from here on out (it's only 5 more points).

Somehow this comment has been completely ignored so far but it hits the nail exactly on the head. We don't need even MORE reasons to take I6.
