i don't understand what you're getting at.. few ways to heal horror or the game will be a joke?
i'm pretty sure that having the drawback of stacking multiple madness cards will hinder your deck so much at a point you may just have to retire that investigator.. imagine drawing 2 or 3 different madness cards at the same time.

not only that, i assume there will be very few ways to "heal" madness.. i don't know if many people played the Call of Cthulhu RPG, but Cory certainly loves it, and when you cast spells or lose sanity in that game you don't get your power or sanity back. In fact, losing a certain amount of sanity during one session can lead to temporary insanity, that must be deal with in a separate session where the insane character must undergo treatment at a psyche ward or something similar.

i feel, and hope, that the game follows this narrative, that was so expertly done in Chaosium's RPG, because it's such a great method of story telling. Playing a card game at the same time is just the hot slice of pizza with my cold beer.

i would like the Male Asian character, that sounds awesome.. maybe a rogue, yakuza/triad, since we have 2 asian females that fit the bookworm and martial artist niche.

also, yes.. an American Native type character would be epic, i dont know how i could look over the fact there isn't one growing up next to a reservation ffs.

i mean.. i can see that.. but Ace in the Hole is a net GAIN, while this is straight LOSS. If and when you draw it, you'll be wishing you spent 6 XP elsewhere. if it was 4.. hmm, it would have it's uses.. but 6 XP? that's a big ask. the one time you need ace in the hole, outweighs the 2 or 3 other times you might come up with a situation you would need borrowed time.

...So another 5 exp, another card, and another 3 exp for charisma (assuming using Leo as well)? Though you are certainly right that banking your actions for a super turn with Red Gloved Man seems like one of the strongest uses for Borrowed Time.
Edit: Though thinking about it, you would use your Leo action first so after the first action you could replace with Red Gloved Man, so charisma isn't needed.

That's a really cool idea, but it's pretty niche and there are probably only a handful of people that can use it, what with a Barricade being lvl 3 and Springfield is Lvl 4.
On second thought, is anyone actually able to use this combo? Would be fun though. (I thought maybe Lola, but she's restricted to 3's and Springfield is 4.)

notice on the card, it even prevents Elite enemies from spawning on you, which means no nasty surprises.. safely shoot from a central location 4 damage... wow I'm doing this

that's a bit much.. granted he could've been 7/7 without too much trouble i think, but over the course of a campaign, having a 4/4, or 5/5 investigator is gonna be realllly nice.
his weakness is ... sorta a boon as well. you get a trauma to carry over to the next scenario, meaning with 1 of each trauma, he starts 1/1/1/1, 2 of each, 2/2/2/2, ect. i think getting 3 Trauma of each will be pretty difficult by the end of a campaign, but he can always use "I'll See You In ****!" before resigning for a freebie! the rest of his deck is made of things that will allow him to step in front of other investigators, as well as the nifty ability to include 2 ward of protection as well as the level 2 ward of protection.. i'm think gonna play him as a Guardian like support Survivor, with "heroic rescue" and " let me handle this".  it's funny actually, as i'm not much of a survivor player, but he may change my mind with the faction. tanking face and eventually trying to get yourself hurt is.. well awesome.

I think that may be a bit of an overstatement.  He does seem like LOTR's Valor mechanic on steroids.
Very high risk, but potentially high reward.  You'll have to build carefully and completely to keep him alive once he gets built up.  I'd actually be more worried about how to do anything with him in the early game.  Even with Survivors' bag of "I don't fail after all" tricks, it's going to be hard to get effectiveness out of him.

He is a Carry (rest of the group carries him early, then late game he carries everyone else), which takes a certain mindset to run correctly and enjoy doing it.  The rest of the group needs to be onboard as well.

i think the real issue is the abilty to have a ton of cheap allies in play to absorb damage and sanity loss. . it would've make a lot more sense if he was a lot stat investigator, such as Ashcan Pete, maybe 5 health 6 sanity, or even 6/6. He's an elderly man after all, is he still really as tough as say Skids or Yorick? i had the same issue with the theme with Wendy Adams in the core box, so i guess i'm just beating a dead horse at this point.  Still, even if they did make him a 5/6 or 6/6, his stat line, it's just tailor made to have him be good. 4 Willpower AND Strength, and a 3 for Intellect which, in addition to his allies that will inevitably be piling up over the course of a game, will only get higher. even if he can only take Guardian allies, he's got 2 cost guard dogs and 3 cost beat cops he can put into play for a free action. id be surprised if Leo ever takes damage...
i do agree that we're able to ignore certain cards, such as Leo De Luca, which i do, but Leo Anderson is a favorite of mine and i just like some balance.. i also just wanted the Springfield 1903 to be good, but i guess that i'm asking for too much. oh, and one more small thing, i think it's stupid Mark Harrigan has a Tommy Gun on his card art, but can't use it. again, left hand, right hand...

adding Focus tokens was a bitter pill for me to swallow, as i felt there was no choice with the addition of investigators that relied on it. i simply cannot adopt Resource tokens.
i noticed after Pyramids that my investigators went from having 3-5 items/weapons/spells each, to what.. 8,9,10 sometimes? add that with the conditions, you need an extra table just for the investigators. there was simply too much of it, and yeah you can leave some stuff out and keep others, can't you? well.. no. just as the problem you're running into here, you can't leave talents out or you remove some of the investigators.
i sadly do agree and disagree with you, as there's simply never too much you can add to this game, because i love it.. but.. hey, there's simply too much now isn't there? i understand the logical fallacy and the cognitive dissonance therein.

OK I played through it twice and I can safely say that IMHO, FFG crapped the bed on this one. What a way to wrap up a series, if that's what's happening.
There's a few good things - Calvin Wright is great, the Corruption condition is fun and nice to have more in the Mystic Ruins deck.
But there's 2 big problems here for me:
    1) Resources. So you can spend a turn getting one, hold a maximum of 2, and each resource can either give you +1 during an Acquire Assets action or +1 Health OR +1 Sanity during a Rest action.
We already have mechanics that cover this. The Bank Loan gives you +2, with the cool penalty of going into Debt. You also have a lot of Investigators (Charlie, Jenny, the Millionaire, Bob, George, need I go on) that have good INF and can either distribute goods or wipe out debts. Similarly, there are lots of cards that give you a bonus on Resting, or that save you Health or Sanity loss (e.g. certain Talents).  So why you'd want to clutter a game with another bunch of tokens there is beyond me.
So if you decide to forget about Resources, you'll have to house rule new abilities for half the new Investigators in this expansion.
I really like the way Resources are handled in the AH LCG, and if they'd planned for them like that at the beginning (e.g. ammunition for weapons), it would have been fine. But here it's like FFG said "hey, we've got Resources in other games. How can we maximize our reuse of the art department and include them in EH??".
    2) Personal Stories. I was really, really looking forward to this one.  But this is "The Bloated Woman" all over again...emphasis on "Bloat", and it could be a man too for that matter!
The stories in AH are a lot of fun and I use them regularly. Here, in the games I played, if I focus on winning the stories I ended up with, and I crap you not, at least 10 (but usually more) cards for each Investigator. And poor Leo, the new guy I brought in, has to gain 5 allies (easy enough) to win his story...which gives him another ally, and the bonus of him not losing allies. Seriously the amount of cards on the table were out of control.
    3) and a bonus one, yeah - Campaign mode is really nothing special, I've heard better examples of this on these boards.
There's more not to like, but with this expansion FFG has successfully turned a nice, lean fun game into a card-display monster.
A real shame, as especially after CiR which I loved, I was hoping they'd knock it out of the park with a loose adaptation of my favourite CoC module. But nope, it's like tripping at the finish line.
That's my 2 cents, happy to hear yours.

scarface was a fictional character? news to me.
i don't think you're doing anyone a favor. this eldritch board isn't exactly full of new players who are interested in experimenting with game design in a, how can i put this... silly manner.
i hope you can see why you've gotten the response you have, as it seems perverse to tamper with what a lot of players love, and even for a game like Eldritch, which isn't exactly dead, there's a lot of dedication that goes into playing it consistently and wanting good, well themed, balanced, and rich game design to expand upon it.
i'm not entirely on one side of the issue, as a person who loves the Chaosium games and books, i feel like, yes.. there should be a good amount of intellectuals, but not every character ever built was a doctor, exhibitionist, professor or librarian. some are bull headed, shoot first, or maybe even homeless street rats and people thrown into the chaos of the mythos.
i think you're getting your creativity confused with a nagging purpose that many others share your tastes. i don't hate anime or league of legends, but i don't want it in my game. sure i can just ignore it, as i have for the past few weeks, but i'm tired of seeing this thread on here. i appreciate you doing something you love, but it's gotten to the point where i feel you're now trying to shove it down people's throats who don't want to taste it by offering something you don't even want to do. you've effectively turned a pet project close to your heart into something worse than any of the negativity in the comments.
don't think it's just the theme.. as much as i love Soakman, i hate most the custom investigators that he created, with exception to the little kid, Edmund i believe, which personally i like very much. call me a purist or what have you, or maybe i prefer a nice somewhat boring persona, as it reflects the every day character being thrown into something more vast and unforgiving as one could ever imagine. i don't even like the new characters from Mansions of Madness..
maybe draw inspiration not from other people, not from media, not from video games and tv shows.. draw it from your own *very creative mind.
perhaps, Jonah Rogers, the collector, who is a procurer of strange artifacts, or Lucille Monroe, a night nurse at St. Marys.
just make **** up, honestly, keep it thematic sure, but keep it relevant, keep it balanced, and keep it fun.
you're definitely creative, no doubt about it.. create, don't copy.

i was being affable, but my real issue with apple stems from the fact that they produce them so cheaply, with cheap labor, with sub quality components, ie; parts that break easily when 2.5d and higher technology is readily accessible, phone housing that bends, cameras that malfunction frequently, screens with "touch disease", all while maintaining a high retail cost near that of other companies that actually have investment in their technology. it's an evil company that practically enslaves it's workforce in china and simultaneously spawned a generation of mindless zombies that believe they produce quality products. i work in the electronics industry, and the defective rate of apple devices to other comparable devices which are similar in price or in some cases lower is mindblowing.
offer less features, offer a weaker and easier to break object, offer software incapable of doing simple tasks, ask for the highest price on the market.
imagine if FFG made crap quality components, would you still shell out $60 for a board game if the cards were printed on paper? guess what, now the board game is $200, and each expansion that comes out is $100-$200 and they have the same cards the last set had.
    ^that's apple.

the Preludes require eldritch tokens to be put on the game board, as well as Shuddle M'ell himself, so they've included them probably because people won't have every one from the core, and with 2 mythos, an eldritch token requiring mystery, and a Shuddle Prelude might leave you without any.
