  1. I am a little disappointed too. So far LOTR Saga Boxes had shown a very good balance between theme and playability. It was possible to use thematic heroes in every quest included in The black riders, The road darkens and Treason of Saruman at least with 2 players.

But now that trend is gone. You must play this box with a huge amount of licenses. I was expecting the Secrecy keyword renewed for The land of shadow box in order to provide an experience with one or two heroes (Frodo and Sam and even a Gollum hero).

I understand this is a game and I have to admit that it is complex to adapt the game to the events related in this section of the book, but to me it was important to play at least the saga boxes thematically. For some players it is difficult to feel confortable when you have to play The crossroad in Ithilien with Theoden, Eowyn and Erkebrand.

In addition to this the rising difficulty in the game is exhausting. "Losing" in the first or second quest phase is boring and is getting very common. But this is another question to be discussed in other threads.

  2. I have to say I agree with JohnConstantine.

As crappy as it is that you guys can't get POD in your native language the vast majority of people cannot get anything from this game in their native language and so are forced to get the entire game in english not JUST the POD's.

Also you guys do indeed seem to get most packs before anyone else including the US which just makes no sense whatsoever considering it is an american based company.

I really wish this game came out in every country at the same time like MTG does. I usually have to wait between 2 and 4 weeks for a product to come out here in Australia after it becomes available in the US. Sometimes a product never makes it (certain nightmare quests or POD) and I then have to buy it online through the FFG website that charges like almost a hundred bucks for postage or whatever or from someone on ebay that has a spare copy or whatever. Pretty sure that pretty much everyone except those in the US has to go through hoops on occasion to get their hands on certain releases for this game, it sucks but the game is just not that big at the end of the day (at least compared to other card games like magic etc) and so we all have to just deal with these issues.

That being said I do hope your issue is resolved and that you do get POD scenarios in Spanish but there are many others in far worse situations for sure and FFG can sure take a while to get issues sorted so maybe don't hold your breath

We get packs before US in very, very sporadic times and due to issues like avoiding a holiday or so. We are speaking of 1 adventure pack in some cycle, not in all of them.

We never get a Deluxe box before the people in US. Usually we get Deluxe boxes and most of Adventure Packs at the same time than US or 1 to 2 weeks after their release date.

  3. czech here. we have core set in native language and maybe dwarrowdelf max. I personally prefer the English version cuz i dont trust czech company (blackfire) to translate and deliver new stuff. so stop whine who cares

Again, the complaint is not about the distribution and the releasing dates in Spain when they are following the spanish distributor capacities and schedule.

The problem is that FFG is who must print the PODs in our language and they do not want to do it. We are getting everything we need from our local distributor in time and the only piece of the puzzle that is failing is that which must be managed exclusively by FFG. They have everything is needed to begin the printing process and they do not start it. So we are asking for some information and solutions here, at FFG´s home.

I understand that some of you find this problem insignificant next to yours and you can live with the multiple delays you have got used to in your countries. But we prefer to make some noise to solve this issue instead of resigning ourselves.

  4. The matter with this quest is not how tough or how soft is. There is no problem in getting some difficult quests from time to time.

The question is that this quest is in my humble opinion designed badly or with an "evil" purpose. To me it has no sense how brutal it is and I had to skip it after a lot of attempts with different decks. I could attempt this quest 100 more times until I get a chance pushing my luck to the limit, but I do not find that fun.

And it is a pain to think that the quest would be much better and balanced if they would have given to Thaurdir his power only when the first sorcery card is revealed from the encounter deck during the quest phase, not with every sorcery card revealed that way, specially when he is with the champion side up.

  5. Um, let me get it straight. You, the guys who live in a country which gets LotR releases faster than any other country of the world (even before the official site posts the release article, hence the spanish spoilers before the english ones), feel "abandoned" by FFG because you don't get POD in your language? I'm not gonna talk about how long it takes for LotR stuff to reach the place I live and how there'll never be a version of it in my native language, I'll just ask: if you want to play those pods/nightmares so bad - why don't you simply order their versions in english?

    To put some things together:

We do not always get releases faster than anyone. Normally we get them at the same week than US. It is true that sometimes (very sporadic) we get some Adventure Packs one week faster but it is equally true that sometimes (very sporadic again) we get them one or two weeks afterwards or even more.

The problem that it is been discussed here is that FFG is directly in charge of the printer who prints the international Pod for other countries. The spanish distributor has nothing to do here because the solution is not in its hands. Is an FFG's issue. There is a delay of several months, even years I'd dare say. And we as players need a solution and some information on it, no matter what country we come from.

  6. oooooooo! what does the giant do!?

cannot believe that is the heroes actual ability... even if you load him up with attachments and he can give a +4 or 5 defense boost or whatever why not just use him to defend said attack? I get it for big boss battles and whatnot but seriously wouldn't you just load up the other defender as well...? Someone else needs to find a proper use for this to prove me wrong as other than adding his defense to another hero to tank one or two big hits from a boss right at the end of a quest I don't see any other use for it  :P

Forced: After Giant of the Cold Wastes engages you, deal 1 point of damage to 3 different characters under your control.

Shadow: if the defender character has at least 1 point of damage, this enemy makes a new attack after this attack.

  7. Of course there were female orcs.

Silmarillion is both, History and Lore of Arda but from an elvish point of view. So elves thought orcs were made by Morgoth out of elves, but that does not mean they were right. Like in other similar chronicles when some fact is unknown because there are not witnesses the chronicler resort to legend to fill the emptiness. In this case elves tried to explain the origin of their enemies, an origin that had not verifiable explanation for them. They used the true fact that some of their kin were captured by Morgoth for sure, never to be seen, and linked this tragedy to the existence of the fallen creatures.

Tolkien discarded or tried to remake this previous idea about the elvish origin of the orcs though the legend remained as the official report after all. But orcs should be different beings with their own reproduction and of course, women. Indeed there are some scarce mentions to orc children in the books and notes by Tolkien.

  8. I am the original author of the spanish post and I would like to clarify some things:

First of all, "Mndela" who is the OP in this thread, is manipulating the statement I made. I do not know why.

The real idea is this: after the announcement of "Land of Shadow" I simply said in the spaniard forum that if the box is expected late 2015, that means that the next and final two saga boxes will be released in 2016 as long as FFG is keeping the same pace (two sagas in a year).

Then I made an assumption considering that late 2016 with the complete saga out would be a critical moment and maybe a suitable one to put an end to the game or apply on it a reboot (game of thrones style). I feel it like that. Nothing more.

After several cycles, all the content based directly on the books published and the end or reboot of another lines it was natural to think that in one and a half year or two years we will have the biggest part of the game.

But dude I did not claim at any time neither that is the thing to come for sure nor my desire. I do not have privileged information or so. It was just a post talking about a possibility in the future of the game as any else could write here.

And of course, the ridiculous statement on "Land of Shadow" is a complete invention created by Mndela.

  9. If you want to play thematically, there is no Boromir or Eomer.  Elrohir is the best option (and the one I use) but is difficult to survive the firsts rounds.

The funny of this quest is that there are a lot of enemies. Cursed dead is disgusting, you kill one or two of them and they appear again to kill you in a group of 3-4.

Other enemy after engages you, put an enemy of the discard pile into play engaged with you. And there is a tomb, where they resurrect

This guys really don't die  :D

Thanks for your post. Somebody that understands my problems.

I am playing thematically, guys, as I said the quest is brutal if you try to play that way. There is no Boromir or Eomer available in that situation. The nations that fought against Angmar were Noldor and Dunedain, so if I have the chance I build a deck with heroes, allies, attachments and events related with that nations. And you can get at least two decks with 90% of cards following that premise thanks to Idraen, Glorfindel, Elrond, Aragorn, Elrohir and Elladan (and Halbarad and Beravor). And both decks are very competitive. They beat the first and second quest confortably. But the third is too much.

Even with freedom to build a deck, this quest has level 7. Of course I guess you will beat it though It is strong enough to challenge your strategy. You can use Boromir if you want but there are another spectre tougher than the Cursed Spectre which summons the first enemy in the discard pile when he engages you. If that guy is in the staging area and the Cursed spectre is revealed during the quest phase and summons three of his brothers, you can end facing six enemies in one encounter phase. Several shadow effects add attack points to the enemies so Boromir could die. In addition to this If you use Boromir your threat will increase fast and there is a treachery card that discard three cards from your deck and add up +2 threat to the staging area for every type of card you discard that way. So you can find +6 threat with a single card along the threat of the other cards in the staging area. Your threat level will be high and the enemies will engage with you on a large scale.

I am not bitching but please understand that I am speaking about playing thematically and you are considering with flippancy a single card while the encounter deck is full of challenges in several cards and situations. Anyway we'd better wait till you can experience the quest first hand. I don't want to spoil every situation and timing of the final quest in the box.

  10. Cursed-Dead.jpg

    This guy?

This is it. If there are three of them in the discard pile, the fourth is revealed and you are running out of "A test of Will", you are going to find four of these guys in the staging area for sure. They are weak, ok, but they mean a lot of attacks to stop and likely at the moment you will be facing some other spectres tougher than them. To me it is an example of automatic elimination, at least with my decks of dunedain and noldor.

  11. Very enjoyable box in general, much better than Voice of Isengard and its "Time X" keyword which I hated. I prefer the new mechanics that use the secondary quest-cards inside the encounter deck. They force you to face them in order to avoid some effects of every kind (Time X, to lose your hand, to lose an ally-objective, to reveal or support enemies, etc). The first quest in the box might be one of my favourites since "Heirs of Numenor". The second quest was good enough too.

But the third quest, that uses the spectres, is absolutely brutal if you use a thematic deck instead of an optimal "free-built-deck". And I am not really sure if an optimal deck could deal with it with less difficulty. It reminds me of Dol Guldur and Ithilien. At this moment it is hard to my mate and me to think in some way to beat it with our decks formed by dunedain and noldor. There is one enemy in this quest that I consider "broken". When revealed he summons to the staging area all his copies from the discard pile, so he is capable of add three of his mates apart from him at once if the encounter deck has run too long at that moment. It is crazy.

  12. Thank you, brilliant!

I'm curious about star brooch - what does the last part mean in gameplay terms? Is it a kind of immunity to eg Ungoliant's Spawn's reveal effect or does it do more that I'm missing? If the second effect is that situational, I'm thinking about whether the cost and slot is worth 1WP. Definitely better than favour of the lady but still. I like the artwork on both cards.

That is right. It gives you immunity to WP reduction due to cards like Ungoliant's Spawn, etc. But you need to be engaged at least with one enemy.

  13. It's an obvious include into quests like Nightmare Passage Through Mirkwood and Redhorn Gate. I'm curious - does that immunity to WP reduciton works always or only if you have an enenmy engaged?

Both the +1 WP bonus and the immunity to WP reduction work as long as you are engaged at least with one enemy. I did not find this item useful in the first and second quest, but it has some use in the third.

As you said it is clear that it was thought to be used in some quests as Redhorn Gate and so.

  14. I got my copy of the Lost Realm and I have just played the first quest.

The two spirit cards in this box, which I think they still have not been spoiled, are:

-"Annuminas Guardian" (approximate translation). An ally with cost 4 (0, 2, 2) and 3 hit points. He gains 1 will point with every enemy engaged with you.

-"Star Brooch" (approximate translation). Cost 1. An attachment for a Noldor or Dunedain hero. That hero gains 1 will point if his controller has some enemy engaged with him. In addition to this, the will power of that hero can not be reduced.

Very interesting the first quest. It introduces the new mechanics based on secondary quest cards included in the encounter deck. Wonderful and more enjoyable than the "Time X" keyword.
