Almost all games are played via the chat window- you can quickly learn the shorthand we all use by observing a few games. Games range in length (vassal play is to the death, not timed) but probably average a little under 90 minutes. If you want to play your game over Skype or similar, it does go a bit quicker, but this isn't common right now.

As you can see, Sozin is clearly the brains behind this little operation.  I'm more the cheerleader (and haranguer of those who don't submit results on time).

We're having a minor technical issue with the Challonge.com utility.  If you've identified yourself on the reddit page per the instructions, you're good to go, and we;ll sort out your Challonge signup when we resolve our player limit issue.

Very explicitly, we do not intend to limit entries to the league.

Announcing Season Zero of an online X-Wing League, open to all!    Sign up here!

Some Backstory: in the past few months a bunch of Reditors self organized to try to create an online Reddit league.  Earthworm and I picked up the thread and, after discussions with various folk, decided to expand the league to be more general.  In parallel, KelvanTiberius and I have run several seasons now of another online league -- the TC Aces League -- and my other S&V Podcast mates Theorist, MrFroggies, and Antigrapist have run more than their share of online tournaments as well -- so I'd figured I'd learned enough to try it out in a larger setting.  So we've decided to launch a "Season Zero" -- basically, a testing season to help us gather data/learn some lessons/establish a community.  Over the coming weeks and months we're hoping to add some sponsors (S&V Podcast, NOVA podcast, the Team Covenant crew, etc).
How to sign up: All of the details for the league - how to sign up, linked resources, and overview of the league, league structure, etc, can be found over on the main reddit announcement page.  Because most of the initial interest in the league came from reddit, Earthworm and I decided to use it as the main platform for communication and community.

Other stuff: Some cool things have happened recently that I think makes the viability of an online league particularly timely.
Challonge.com has really come into its own.  It is a very effective platform for handling the administrivia of league play.  See for example the TCA Aces Season Two challonge site, and the 2015 World Championship.   It has some sweet features like voting, file attachments, an API, etc. The Vassal port of the X-Wing Miniature Game is an incredible resource for playing this wonderful game - huge thanks to Muon and crew for their efforts!  This has allowed things like online twitch casting of games -- see, for example, the Scum and Villainy Podcast's recent broadcast of the Aces League Semi-Finals match between World Champion Paul Heaver and ELO #2 blairbunke. The various listbuilders - YASB, voidstate, and fabs - have all collaborated to create a single specification for interchanging X-wing list data.  This has in turn enabled the creation of sites such as listjuggler.  stmack and the Vassal community have successfully created an unofficial rating system, based on the internationally established ELO ratings system (used in online and over the board chess).   All good things, and, when you put them together, you get an environment that is well suited for our Season Zero test.

Please join us over on Reddit if you're interested in joining/learning more/helping out!

I got the dates from one of three ways.  You can pick the story you like best:
    1.  I extrapolated third Saturdays
    2.  Your store Google calendar (may be confusing you with Meeples for that story)
    3.  I landed a HWK-290 on your roof and went in through the ductwork with a blaster and a stolen plasma welder to obtain secrets of the Dark Trooper/Monthly Tournament.

Congrats to Heroic Knight Games in Issaquah for being the first to schedule and advertise their Store Championships!  It's already on my calendar (though with iCal, my wife can delete it whenever she wants, so we'll see).

I've noted which stores have Store championships, and I'll be updating with dates as they become available.  Do we want a separate thread like we had last year (to discuss results, etc.) or do we just want to roll all that into this thread?

Okay, riddle me this Batman. In this post, you said "Frogg is going with me." But I was browsing through the tournament to see if they posted the final winners for the tourney. And I noticed that one "John Frogg" indeed attend.

However, when I asked Mr. Frogg what his name was, he said "Jeremiah." And I will tell you this, "Jeremiah" was no Frogg.

Jeremiah was, in fact, a bullfrog.

Remember, this 'isn't that bad'... but it's the same price as an FCS. Or an R4 Agromech. Or for that matter, R3-A2 and BB-8.

Yes, this thing is going on ships that can't take FCS or Agromechs... but based on the other upgrades out there, for two points you'd hope to see a lot more target locks out of the upgrade. A little like R5-K6, we have yet another 2pt Target Locking astromech... that does objectively less than the other 2pt Target Locking upgrades out there. This is mildly infuriating, especially when hopes for a solid attack-boosting 3pt generic Astromech were because the thing would fill a niche that's currently missing in the upgrade suite.

Really, the biggest reason people are disappointed because they were really hoping for another 'major' astromech pick - either 1pt, or powerful enough to make the bigger investment significant. With Integrated Astromech coming, the 1pt selection of Astromechs is particularly of interest for the 'what can I buy with my 22pt X-wings?' question, and the problem we have is that we have precisely two generics - both of which give more effect on a Y-wing than an X-wing due to the stat profiles of each - and four uniques, two of which are suspected to be virtually incapable of being used with IA to begin with (Because one self-discards anyway, and the other is suspected to lose your EPT when he's discarded, so in terms of price, he's not 1pt, he's EPT+1pt).

Aside from specialist droids on specific pilots (R7 on Tarn, for instance), the only real star player in the astromech suite for X-wings is R3-A2... and he's welded to double-tapping Y-wings these days, so not an option even if he would've been a solid pick elsewhere.

Wonder how it times with Hobbie's ability, if he can take a stress, get a TL, remove a stress, take an action then that's pretty good.

the thing with the r3-a2 BTL-a4 is it doesn't matter at all how limited it gets, because you're doing far more to limit a far more expensive enemy ship

you go TLT r3-a2 nowadays because of range 3. Your arc extends out to its widest the further away you far from a target, making it more difficult to arc-dodge. Your dice results don't rather (******* love that), you just want to double stress a fool

it helps to also block yourself to keep from overshooting the enemy. remember, you're also stressed as ****, so you don't care about losing actions

otherwise, BTL-a4 is not worth it with TLTs (it's money with ICT, though)

Reporting them gets them removed. It's been done before. Winter Op kits are not store championship kits and some have been run by now so it's possible some of the auctions are winners selling their stuff in some cases. Far as I know store champ kits have not been received yet.

Not true at all. They have posted lists of the stores every other year no reason to expect 2016 to be any different.
