I actually happen to agree with you, but you were such an idiot while making your point that i find myself wanting to disagree at all costs.

Here are some links that I find useful for the Star Wars X-Wing Miniatures game. Thanks ffgjosh for pinning this thread!
For newer players, the categories are generally listed in order of importance for getting a good understanding of the game. If you have suggestions on other sections or topics to add, list them here and I'll likely add them!

Rats. I only have one friend on this site, and I was going to add you, but then I found out you played 40K.

But seriously, people who think FFG is a bad company that mistreats its customers need to get out there and waste some of their time/money/life on some other games made by companies that do everything short of spitting on their customers.

    FFG will replace defective product.

X-wing is the closest thing to a truly balanced game I've ever played.

No part of the game is exclusive and/or ridiculously expensive in the aftermarket. (See above statement about balance.)

Okay, that's really it. It may not seem like much, but when you deal with companies that won't even stand behind their product and replace it if they sold you something flawed, you start to get a better perspective on these things.

A lot of people only have one or two advances, myself included.  I will probably sell off a couple pairs of those upgrades when the time rolls around. Having 4 really makes it worth it to team up with someone on the purchase.

I've never been entranced with the HWK model.  Whatever game it was featured in came out after i drifted away from computer games.  As others here have noticed that ship is really similar in size and purpose to the Eagle 5 Winnebago from Spaceballs, which is very dear to me heart.

Gosric has a very nice model on Shapeways:

I painted it using Testors paints- the base coat is Modern Desert Sand spray enamel (which they annoyingly do not make in a jar)  The main accent color is Testors Acryl Rust, with other Acryl colors as details.  The stripe and 'W' were masked and then brush painted.  I finished the model with a little Citadel Nuln Oil drybrushing to gently pick out a few more details.

And here it is in its place as a HWK replacement:

Here's Dutch and Roark approaching their adversaries in my first run out with it yesterday:

The meta at that tournament turned out to be generally low PS and no Phantoms, so Roark wound up being a poor substitute for the Gold Sqn. he replaced, but I really wanted to use the model, and did manage to come second.

On a whim, I've also made up a modification card to work with the ship in its original flavor:

Painting a Shapeways model wasn't as easy as I expected.  The plastic was kind of gritty and absorbent, which made masking difficult and caused paint to bleed a bit.  The next Shapeways model (probably a gunboat) is going to be Airbrushed

Painting a Shapeways model wasn't as easy as I expected.  The plastic was kind of gritty and absorbent, which made masking difficult and caused paint to bleed a bit.  The next Shapeways model (probably a gunboat) is going to be Airbrushed

Earthworm reacted to Tusken Raider in Biggles - The Truth
One day, I was talking on a forum to some fellow X-Wingers and we were joking about names of cards. I then said that in England we have differing cards, for example the Royal Guard Pilot was actually the Royale Guard Pilot. They thought I was joking. I quickly put something together on Photoshop and cut off the main text because I couldn't fit the "e" in it. They were amazed. And I was amazed that they believed me. I thought I'd see how far I could go with it. I told them that in England the Gray Squadron Pilot was actually Grey Squadron pilot and again produced a picture on Photoshop. Again, they absolutely believed me. Feeling naughty, I thought I would try for one more. So I told them that in England Biggs was actually Biggles, named after the fictional World War I flying ace. Again I rushed off a picture. The response was amazing. They were bowled over. I told them that it had been an early print of the game and that US versions flooded the UK market very quickly due to insufficient sets. They almost universally believed every word.

I decided to take it a little further, so I posted on the UK Facebook page asking for help. It became a huge thread. There was a very definitely control of information. If we were to pull off an extraordinary hoax then we had to coordinate. Information was agreed and then released very slowly. On April 29th, I posted on BGG:

    http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/1163833/how-come-no-one-knows-about/page/1

It grew from there. With every reply on BGGand on FFG we planned our response. I spent days on it. We pretended to trade with people in the US - we got them in on it, too. They posted thanks for receiving their Biggles cards. Even people in the UK said that they were looking to trade for some Biggles cards because they had never realised until now. We posted on the FFG forum, on Boardgamegeek, we even tried to change the Wookieepedia entry, although that got changed back extremely quickly.

I insisted that no-one profit from the joke. There would be no trades, no prints of fake cards or anything like that. I didn't want people to lose out financially because of the joke.

We cross-posted, to drop little hints and pictures in here and there, for example,
http://www.boardgamegeek.com/article/15652358#15652358  . Look really closely at the picture. This had moved way beyond simple Photoshop. Now serious designers and artists were in on the act. We even submitted tournament reports with photos that had someone in the background dressed as Biggles.

We had someone join the UK/IRL Facebook page from America asking if it was real. This was everywhere. When I moved to America, one of the first games I played someone asked me if I had any Biggles cards. I asked FFG if they might pretend that they had created one but got no response. They obviously wanted nothing to do with the gag. I can't blame them but it would have been amazing if they had. All I hoped for was that no-one else would actually ask FFG. And no-one did, until now, posted on the FFG Forum, in response to someone asking how they might get their hands on a Biggles card.

By the end of the original flurry of activity in April and May, the UK/IRL Facebook thread had over 540 posts on it. There were so many people involved. This was the largest joke I have ever pulled in my life. People all around the world have been talking about Biggles for over 6 months. It has been wonderful.

So, it's time to 'fess up. There is no Biggles card. But there has been a lot of laughter and a lot of fun and now that I've admitted it, I hope you all see the funny side, too.

Thanks for 6 months of good humour and, by the way, a lot of people in the UK now genuinely do refer to him as Biggles because of this, and that is actually true. I understand if you don't believe me, though!

I’m converting to matchboxes to store my ships, including dials and bases.  I had been keeping them in the original clamshells in a wine case box, but that was really inefficient, and got clumsy to dig things out, and I had to keep dials separately.  My computer skills are not great, but I generated the box templates from templatemaker.nl and then assembled the images using gimp and MSpaint.  The Tie fighter just sits in a snug box within a box, while I made a riser for the peg extension on the bottom of the X-wing.  Both have survived a vigorous shaking by my youngest, who is 18 months old.

I’m also working on boxes to store cards and tokens:
The card box is done using scans of the back of the Imperial pilot card, and again some MS paint addition of the Star Destroyer.  http://tuckbox.gameupdates.com/ will generate a printable template with the images already assembled, if you have separate files for front, sides, etc. The matchbox for focus tokens is done from templatemaker.nl, VASSAL screenshots and MSPaint.

So something that I've been wanting to do for a while is label all of the pilots that we see in the game that appeared in the movies. The idea sounded cool to me, and I thought at least one or two of you out there would think it just as cool of an idea.

Along the way I decided to add Jan and Kyle from the live action cutscenes from Jedi Knight. Why not? Once I had all of that done, a part of me wanted to add the pilots that only appeared in comics, but I decided against it. Maybe I'll add them someday if enough people like the idea.

    Episode IV: A New Hope

BACKSTABBER: Seen flying in formation with Darth Vader and Mauler Mithel in the trench. This guy ironically got one-shotted by Han from outside of his firing arc, thus Backstabber became the backstabbed.

Vader: I'll take them myself. Cover me.
    Backstabber: Yes, sir.

BIGGS DARKLIGHTER: Biggs was shown in the cockpit since the original movie, however his scene sans helmet was deleted. It made it's way back onto the big screen after the Special Edition.

Biggs: Hey, are you coming up with us?
Luke: I'll be right up there with you...

CHEWBACCA: Everybody knows this furry guy. This screen cap is from Empire just because I liked the shot, but his first appearance obviously puts him in this movie.

    Chewbacca: Aaaaagh whhrrr grahhh
Han: Yeah, you said it Chewie.

DARK CURSE: Another one of those TIE pilots that seem to all look the same This guy was killed by Wedge when Luke couldn't shake him.

    Luke: I can't shake him!
Wedge: I'm on him Luke, hold on!

DARTH VADER: I bet you never heard of this guy. He had a minor role in the film, with brief cameos in the next two.

    Vader: I have you now!

DUTCH VANDER: This guy you have to pay attention to catch without his helmet. During the briefing before the Death Star battle, General Dodonna mentions that the target area is only 2-meters wide. He, among others, express their unease over that news.

Dodonna: ...a small one-manned fighter should be able to penetrate it's outer defense.
Dutch: Pardon me for asking, sir, but what good are snub fighters going to be against that?

GARVEN DREIS: In the same resurrected deleted scene as Biggs above, Garven makes his sans helmet debut.

    Garven: All wings report in!

    HAN SOLO: Scoundrel extraordinaire.

    Han: Sorry about the mess...

JEK PORKINS: Everyone's favorite fireball. He thought he could hold it. Unfortunately for him, he rolled his last hit.

    Porkins: I can hold it!

LUKE SKYWALKER: Farm-boy turned intergalactic superstar.

Comms: Luke, you switched off your targeting computer. What's wrong?
    Luke: Nothing. I'm alright.

EDIT: Keep scrolling for more. You can only add so many images per post, so I made four posts all together. I thought I could crank them out fast enough so they would be back to back, but it appears I was wrong. Anyway...enjoy! And fly casual.
