    I disagree.
For every thread discussing why a given ship is inefficient, there are always a handful people who chime in with the "you're not utilizing the ships strengths; stop trying to fly it like an interceptor/jouster/flanker/whatever." Then those proponents take that ship to regionals and proceed to not make the top 8 cut.
    Funny how that works out.
Don't get me wrong, I fly unique snowflake lists too. I just do it knowing that I'm trading a decrease in tournament performance for an increase in personal enjoyment. What I don't like is when people get all judgmental about other people picking a different balance point on the tournament performance/personal enjoyment seesaw. If it's a legal list and they're flying it casual-like, game on.
The way to address stagnant metas is to give the devs accurate, relevant feedback so that they can incorporate that when putting balance tweaks into the next wave. Some of the most relevant feedback is statistical analysis of the ships, combined with tournament results and trends.
    Oh, that's MathWing.

Also, this min-maxing strategy rooted in a mathematical approach exists because of the 100-point dogfight tournament system which dominates X-wing play.  Efficiency would matter less if you weren't playing a version of the game (the tournament version) where efficiency is paramount.  Given that most players are playing a game rooted in the most efficient 100-point builds, it's fabulous that some of the more mathematically-inclined members can help shed light on which combinations are efficient, and why that's the case.

Also, things like the TIE advanced fix exist because of systems like Mathwing pointing out how inefficient the base ship is.  Without it, it would be hard to understand why some ships are favored and others are not.  Mathwing provides a language for understanding the mechanisms behind player choice and tournament success.  What you do with that information is up to you, but it's a mistake to shoot the very-well-educated and hard-working messenger.

Losing most of your games even when you fly well(defenders, X-wings and advanced) isn't very fun. Don't blame math for pointing out that bad ships are pretty bad...
I don't see how acquiring more information is "cynical". There's nothing wrong with helping newer players sort out the reason why their 4 X list just isn't getting many wins.
X-wings kind of died off when whisper showed up, not when MJ showed up.

So, the instagram account of the spanish distributor of the game x-wing showed a video of unrevealed content of the new rebel bomber. Someone who could enhace the text may allow me to translate even the twin laser turret.
Well, about the pilot, it looks like this:

ESEGE TUKETU: cuando otra nave aliada que tengas a alcance 1-2 este atacando, puede usar tus fichas de concentración como si fueras suyas.

ESEGE TUKETU: When other allied ship you have at range 1-2 is attacking, it may use your focus tokens instead of theirs.

I've never been entranced with the HWK model.  Whatever game it was featured in came out after i drifted away from computer games.  As others here have noticed that ship is really similar in size and purpose to the Eagle 5 Winnebago from Spaceballs, which is very dear to me heart.

Gosric has a very nice model on Shapeways:

I painted it using Testors paints- the base coat is Modern Desert Sand spray enamel (which they annoyingly do not make in a jar)  The main accent color is Testors Acryl Rust, with other Acryl colors as details.  The stripe and 'W' were masked and then brush painted.  I finished the model with a little Citadel Nuln Oil drybrushing to gently pick out a few more details.

And here it is in its place as a HWK replacement:

Here's Dutch and Roark approaching their adversaries in my first run out with it yesterday:

The meta at that tournament turned out to be generally low PS and no Phantoms, so Roark wound up being a poor substitute for the Gold Sqn. he replaced, but I really wanted to use the model, and did manage to come second.

On a whim, I've also made up a modification card to work with the ship in its original flavor:

Painting a Shapeways model wasn't as easy as I expected.  The plastic was kind of gritty and absorbent, which made masking difficult and caused paint to bleed a bit.  The next Shapeways model (probably a gunboat) is going to be Airbrushed

I had figured it would be something like that.  It's a little strange that they were so stingy with Headhunter stuff, given the extra Y-wing materials provided, and the number of rebel Z-95's already in circulation.

Since I pack each ship and its components into its own box, having uneven numbers of tokens is a little annoying.

You'll find an excellent resource at templatemaker.nl, which can generate box templates of various types in any custom size.  I then import those .svg's into GIMP, where I assemble the images.  The dividers, counter holders and peg stands inside the boxes I just make by hand.

    This system has several advantages:
-It's modular- I can easily pick and choose which ships to bring to a game night or tournament, and still have all the necessary pieces.
-Its easy- I can hand a couple boxes to a new player, and they're self explanatory enough for a newbie to put together.
    -Geek Cred.

Yes, putting a tie swarm back into 8 boxes after playing is a little bit of a drag, but not really that much, and it's minimized the amount of other stuff I have to store- I've got number and TL tokens in each ship box, so all I have to store are focus, evade, stress, ion, and crit tokens in my go-box.  (I'm even giving thought to making space in each box for the tokens that each ship might earn- a Focus and an Evade in an A-wing box, etc.

OK, the world has resumed spinning, everybody can return to their normal lives again, thanks.
