Hmm, my main takeaway from that is that I must get a table mat like that.

I've been resisting until now, but I am now convinced that we desperately need a full rule book.  All of these little questions are piling up and the slow trickle of answers is becoming infuriating.

That is because people want it to evolve over time.  Netrunner has demonstrated, at least to me, that FFG doesn't really do a good job of trying to reconcile mistakes within the competitive environment.  The rotation allows for the game to evolve and adapt over time, allowing for environment twisting cards to fall out of play.
Rotations helps competitive play stay fresh.  Otherwise, if you just keep adding cards, it doesn't fix "bad" cards.  Even printing meta for cards doesn't help.  You don't want your deck to just end up being half meta for the various problem cards in the environment.  That isn't fun.

That's weird. I ALWAYS have a great time at tournaments. I would love to have a good time playing casually. Sadly, casual games don't really allow for that because they are boring as hell... You know... playing the same person over and over again. I'd rather get out and meet people who would be potential friends and lose very game I play than sit across from the same person all the time. Even in a non tournament setting, I get bored after playing the same person a few times. I need to get a new opponent to play against. And tournament settings allow you to play against a lot of different people. And people you may have never even played against. And you also have the chance to get cool prizes in the process. I understand that casual play has its place, but I can only find fun in it for so long. Then I just get bored. I need new decks to play against, new play styles to play against, and new friends to play against. Even discussion is better when you play in tournaments. It's fun discussing strategy or deck building options with other players that you normally wouldn't interact with. It's fun traveling to new cities that you never go to and enjoying what that city has to offer with new friends you just made that are local to show you the sites. Eat at that restaurant that everyone has to eat at when in town, etc... It's fun doing last minute deck testing to see if your deck is gonna be good or not. It's fun to help other players test their decks. And it's oh so much fun to win tournaments.

Coming from CCGs I am looking very forward to the ease of getting a full playset of cards. I remember buying boxes upon boxes of boosters to get a full playset of rares. Only to find myself getting 5 of one rare and 1 of another. Atleast with the LCG model. I know buying 3 coresets will give me everything I need to play any clan deck I want and really have multiple decks with me for play. The only thing that might be an issue with is say splashing Crane in say a Lion deck when I have a Crane deck too. However, I am thinking proxies will be handy for those situations in causal play.

    Nice card, thanks.

Dragon really are trying for the "dump tons of attachments on one or two characters and solo provinces" route.
While it's kinda thematic for the Dragon, I'm always wary of 'eggs in one basket' mechanics / themes. It's really hard to make it work well as a faction's major focus. It usually ends up being either over-powered because too much negation and / or protection is given with it, or incredibly fragile because not enough negation and / or protection is given with it. For that matter, they're basically a type of combo deck, and that also tends to require a lot of cards drawing, cycling or deck searching. Too much of this in one deck can make the game big down and feel less interactive, while too little makes it very inconsistent.
All that said, FFG might pull it off just fine. We'll see in just under a week. Also, I'm hoping for a few more cards that fit the 'manipulate the fate on Rings' theme.

Prepare for War got a reaction from Caldera in OCTGN
My understanding is that in the past FFG don't actively encourage octgn but haven't moved against it either.
Past precedent on other games has been not to have cards added to octgn before they're out and released in the real world, and I think that's a good rule to follow, especially as you're brazenly promoting your add-on on the FFG website.

Personally I think octgn is great for the community, and that it increases sales of physical product by keeping people engaged and interested in a game, as well as raising the standard and quality of the tourney environment by creating a community of "expert players". It's rare to see FFG LCG champions who aren't octgn regulars. These top players then cause a trickle down of enthusiasm to new players, and create more customers for a game.
I therefore hope that FFG continues its "turn a blind eye" approach to octgn, on the understanding that it is good business sense for them to do so.
However, best way to maximise the chances of them doing so is to maintain an approach that is respectful of their IP. A large part of that, I think, is not releasing octgn updates or feeds until they are live in the real world.

That said, looking forward to seeing you on octgn once the game comes out!

Very nice. I wish they'd just release the rulebook already, since it's already been printed.
I get that the slow-ish drip of information is usually the best way to build and keep excitement for a product that won't be sold widely until at least October. Still, having the rules completely cemented puts everything else they show in a more complete context.

As for 'Roles', I want to see them now, too, but I have a feeling we wont see them before GenCon. It does seems very likely they're similar to Sensei, and given that there are 5 of them in the core set, they might be cards that give you an additional or alternate benefit from a specific Ring, at some sort of cost (less stronghold province strength bonus, starting honor, influence, etc).

That's rich from someboy who keeps claiming over and over CCGs are cheaper! XD

I'm not saying you have too. In fact I think it's a really bad idea. But I'm pointing it's an option. And, if you have a like-minded group and all of you decide to apply the same legality ruleset, you wouldn't be at a disadvantage (other than waiting a few additional months to add complete cycles) . It's not like there have been different formats in L5R before. Chill out a little, man.

I sort of agree. I mean there is less "binder fodder" in absolute terms due to the slower LCG release rate as compared to CCGs. However in relative terms I doubt there is any difference... at least no due to the release rate. Design-wise it might be that this version of the game generates more competitive deck archetypes requiring diferent cardsets, and thus, a more "efficient" use of all the cardboard available. But again that's more an issue of design that a marketing one (which the CCG/LCG split is all about).

I don't believe this is true. At least for Netrunner, maybe 35-40% of the card pool is actually playable that's just estimating based on looking at the number of played cards in a few packs.

I think there are three simple changes that would make the LCG model more dynamic and lower the barrier of entry further down the line.
1.) Rotate faster.  It doesn't have to be a dramatic change from the current policy.  Maybe on the fourth or fifth cycle throw the first out.  That is around when we started to get rumblings about rotation being too slow in Netrunner.
2.) Never stop releasing deluxe boxes.  Have a deluxe box between each pack cycle.  That big dump of cards is needed to awaken the fanbase.  The slow trickle of packs are fine to keep things moving, but you really need that surge of excitement.
3.) Allow deluxe boxes to rotate at the same rate as the pack cycles.  Collecting too many of these deluxes boxes and allowing them to remain "evergreen" bloat the card pool and increase the barrier of entry.
I would never go back to a CCG format game.  I've got no interest in Destiny for this reason.  I do think the LCG model can be improved though to alleviate burn out and encourage new player adoption rates.  I'll play L5R either way, but I do hope they've given some thought into learning from their past experiences in this regards.
Add:  LOTR, Netrunner, Conquest, AGOT 2.0, AH TCG all have full play sets in their cycle packs and deluxe expansions.  Pretty much everything released in the last six years or so have followed that trend.  I know some of the older ones did not, but I doubt they'd entertain returning to that format.  It was pretty unpopular.

Bad experiences with Star Wars: Destiny have reminded me why I love the LCG model so much, so I'll take a couple of cards per clan per release gladly.
My only hope is that the releases happen in a timely fashion and on a regular schedule, with good simultaneous worldwide release. I really don't like it much when FFG hits those "on the boat" lulls where you end up waiting an extra month or three for the next pack to arrive.

While agree that Lion look really strong right out of the gate some of their cards seem to be in conflict with each other and their perceived strategies.  They are agressive and swarmy which would lean towards wanting to draw cards to keep the pressure on their opponent.  However they are also concerned about staying ahead in honor.  This will be more difficult to balance then it might appear on the surface.  No doubt this sets the bar for military focused clans but I suspect Crab and Unicorn will be just as formidable.  Neither will likely have the raw military strength of the Lion, but, I suspect both will be more versatile and ultimately better prepared for what should end up being a very diverse metagame.

In the same vein as the Hotaru I did, here is Akodo Toturi.  I know people wanted the skills at the top, but I just don't like the way it looks.  Also, if anyone knows where I can find a decent res copy of a blank fate symbol or a blank glory symbol that would be appreciated in cleaning up the card.

I find it amusing how many lion cards stop functioning properly the instant your honor drops below your opponent's.  Reminds of the old days in the CCG where a single Breach of Etiquette would ruin a lion's entire game.

I think it's going come down to whether or not one player sees the cards necessary to win a second conflict in a turn. Mostly, it depends on whether or not there are +Political attachments other than the new Ancestral Guidance or Crane's Latest Fashion the Lion player can use. Crane already know about swords and Banzai.
