Izza reacted to Tom Cruise in [3.1 Update!] Dark Heresy (Warhammer 40,000) in Genesys
Hey there, I'm still around, just haven't made much progress on this in a few weeks now due to a pretty busy personal life. Fully intend to get back into the swing of things soon, don't wanna give any particular ETA there because I'm very bad at keeping to those kinda time-frames when I set them
As soon as I have anything new to show off I'll be sure to put it here.

It just keeps going. There is no filling it up besides what you have on the sheet. Check out my version of the sheet. It contains a second page for the pyramid.

This is my adventure. You may have seen early drafts of it floating around where I took the concept of the Infiltration board game and turned it into a full adventure.

Izza reacted to Tom Cruise in [3.1 Update!] Dark Heresy (Warhammer 40,000) in Genesys
I'm well aware! Thanks for sourcing this content but it was intentionally omitted.
My goal here isn't to adapt every single piece of 40kRPG content ever made, that'd turn this book into an unwieldy mess. Plus, half the content in those books are just slight alterations on existing weapons (different lasgun patterns, etc), which is something Genesys' design philosophy leans away from.
I've also tried to represent some weapons using ammo or weapon attachments instead of entirely new weapons. Like the handful of toxic flamer weapons throughout the 40kRPG books are handled by using different custom ammo for regular flamers.

Alright, newly updated and pretty-fied cybernetics rules are added to the above PDF, along with the text for servitors (the bulk of their actual rules are in the NPC chapter anyway).
Same link, have at it!
Almost through this mammoth chapter.

Izza reacted to WayneLigon in Why don't we start with Transportation?
For the common Joe in this setting, they don't own cars. It's shift in perception. Owning a personal vehicle that cost half of what you make a year, and that you use for twenty minutes a day and the rest of the time it just sits on a big concrete lot or on a big concrete pad? Wasteful. Good lord, sometimes people built special houses for the **** things. Back when there were such things as suburbs. The fad of the personal vehicle passed away, decades ago.
Robots and androids and automated factories can make a car in twenty minutes that costs virtually nothing when you factor in economies of scale. It's cheap and practical, and it drives itself off the factory floor and puts itself to work. Your common Joe orders a car when he needs one, contracts with it or its co-op for a period of time ("I need to do some shopping in town - I'll need a vehicle with this capacity for x amount of time, with three passengers") (Though why you'd ever /go out/ to go shopping might be a little weird instead of just ordering online and having drones deliver it).
Now your grey-market freelance troublemakers like many PC's - owning a private car might be useful at times, but it also puts you on the grid to a degree most might not want to consider.

Izza reacted to Luctius in Dark Sun
I've been working on a Dark Sun Conversion for a while now. Although it is neither finished nor tested, I submit the first preview here for you guys. I'm looking for feedback (so don't hold your arrows), some brainstorming and some expertise if possible. Do note, I see Genesys not as a generic role-playing system, but as a toolbox. Therefore I have no problem using systems which depart from rules suggested by the Genesys book. That said, if possible and (almost) equally elegant, I would favour a solution in the spirit of how Genesys handles things.
Because it is a rather large document, here are the most important changes from normal Genesys, with my rationale.
Careers:
I personally find the careers system of Genesys is rather bland. I've opted for a system closer to the FFG Star Wars System, namely Talent Trees. In this case, each talent tree is 3x5, but you get to choose 2, which combined are your career. These will also determine your Career Skills. In this way you have a fairly good amount of customization but still have the flavour of a career system. For example, eventually you would be able to combine the Thief with Arcana careers to create a Spellblade, or create a Dark Sun bard by combining Performer with Poisoner. A D&D wizard could be approximated with combining Arcana with Scholar for example.
That said, the talent trees do look kind of ugly, so anyone with latex/tikz skills is welcome to improve that. This is my first Latex project (Thanks for the template c-bec-k), but that shows ?.
Magic:
Dark Sun has a couple important changes to normal D&D regarding magic. The first is that of Psionics, for which we have to create a system. The second is of Defiling and Preserving. And finally while there is some sort of druidic system, the editions are rather different on how to handle divine magic, at first Templars were granted divine spells by the Sorcerer-Kings, later they got into a Pact. For now I have done nothing for templars, reasoning that for the most part they are NPC's anyway. This will probably change later on.
Right now Primal (aka druidic) magic uses the same system as Arcana, it only provides for different spells. Thus a druid can also preserve or defile. This is probably also subject to change, but ideas are welcome on this matter.
Psionics is using the exact same system as the Force did in Star Wars, with the black pips signifying more effort on behalve of the user, thus costing strain. There is no role-play penalty of using black pips at all. The same Force Powers are used, although renamed to Psionics Powers. I liked the fact that with Psionics you are more focussed on a specific power, but having more expertise, rather than having broad spells. I am wondering how the balance is between them though.
Finally Arcana magic. I've 'simplified' spellcasting by creating two actions, Cast Spell (Defiling) and Cast Spell (Preserving). Every Arcane (and Primal) user can use both actions. Preserving is close to the default in Genesys, except that instead of a static 2 strain cost, casting a spell cost strain equal to the final difficulty of the spell. Defiling costs no strain, but the generated threats and despair should be used to show the damage done to the environment. This also means that defiling is more likely to be noticed. This means that defiling has mostly a narrative drawback, but in this system I see that as an advantage, not a disadvantage. The idea behind this approach was that in the books, the half-elf mage is scolded at when she tells that she had cast a couple of spells close together, implying that that almost certainly caused damage to the environment. Thus while Preserving can draw a part of the amount of energy from the plants, the user has to supply a part of it herself, thus causing strain.
I've noticed the irony that while Psionics uses the force dice, that system would be almost perfect for using arcane magic. As in, using black pips from a force die could mean that is the amount of energy you are 'overdrawing' from the environment. However I could not think of a good system to use the force dice with the spell tables, more input is welcome here.
For now, my priority is more specialisations and more adversaries, which I will be working on the next couple of weeks. Also, in that time-frame I expect our current numenera campaign to end, so then we will put this to the test.
Finally, if people are willing, I would like some help with balancing the races and balancing/creating the adversaries. Any input on that front, as well as general input and suggestions, is very welcome.

Just so you all know, I am starting a new show at the end of this month. I’ll make sure to post the detail of that show here.

Izza reacted to SavageBob in Sad to see the Dice Pool Podcast go
Very sad to read this announcement. Seems that the Dice Pool Podcast has come to an end due to "creative differences." The hosts always seemed to have such a great rapport; it's sad to see that they came to some sort of impasse regarding how the podcast would proceed.
The Genesys community is lucky to have other podcast options out there—Finding the Narrative and Excess Advantage are both great resources, and we have several great actual plays to choose from. But I've always viewed the Dice Pool Podcast as our community's podcast flagship. Sorry to see them go.

Izza reacted to drainsmith in Ecuador overlay animation
Here is how New Angeles overlays present day Ecuador. This let's us see where there are rivers and how some of the district boundaries were formed. It also shows how the island of Puna is no longer an island and how the sprawl connected it to the mainland.
We can also see how a lot of the districts got their names from the towns and cities that were once there.
Also, it shows how the Chakana and Base de Cayambe districts are probably at a much higher elevation as they are built on the mountains that lead up to the Root and the volcano it was built on.

Izza reacted to verdantsf in End User: An Android Youtube Series
Took two groups of 5 through the same mini-adventure after our Session 0! Had a great time using a 3-way encounter to assess character capabilities before our first full session coming up. I've included the module, which can be used as a stand-alone when you're short on prep time and/or a quick tie-in to the GenCon Android adventure which features the same two gangs. It's missing some page references, as it'll be included within a larger, full adventure module later.

Izza reacted to Ugoff in Adventure Idea Commune
I'm a bit new at both creating campaigns in Genesys and cyberpunk world's, but I got the idea to look at Netrunner Agendas and make some campaigns around them. This was one that came to mind, but it seems a bit long winded and could use some help.
Background, NBN at times allows it's workers to take risks, and create passion projects. Often these are done with their reputation at risk, and the cheaper and quicker it can be done, the better. One of the things that are in high competition between the different studio subsidies is classic movie props. Often times, the rights to what a studio controls, comes down to what they have possession of. The studio that has the original Alien from the Aliens franchise, has sole rights to that. The studio that has the original Elder Wand from Harry Potter, are the ones who create new works in that live action series.
One day while browsing the archives of Haarpsichord Studios, the famous actress Miranda Rhapsody passes a pair of Red Slippers, and instantly knows what her next blockbuster will be: A musical sensie of 'The Wizzard of Oz'. Quietly the studio gets a script together, signs up actors and directors, and getting ready to make a big announcement at NBN headquarters about their next hit. Shortly before the scheduled meeting, the slippers go missing, and a director based in New Angeles, known for only making straight to pad 'Sunshine Junction' threedees, has a big announcement scheduled himself.
Plot:The director has hired the Tri-Maf to steal the slippers and fabricate ledgers showing that his studio has had it in their possession the entire time. A rep of Rhapsody hires the player's group to steal them back, and find evidence of the theft/forging. Since this is an internal NBN matter, Rhapsody and the studio can't be connected to this dirty work. And with the hired tri-maf protectimg the goods, the rep can't handle this with just his connections in the Corp.

And because I'm a huge fan of 90s PC games here are a couple of essentials...
Kyle Katarn
Kyle was the hero of Dark Forces, Dark Forces II Jedi Knight, Jedi Knight II, Star Wars FPS games from WAY back in the day.
The original Rebel spy who stole the Death Star plans , he later developed Force sensitivity, training under Luke. (All Legends now)
Jan Ors
Kyle's partner in crime.
Jan was an ace pilot, she flew support for Kyle in the Moldy Crow and late the Ravens Claw, while Kyle did the dirty work on the ground.

This thread needs more A-Wing!
Arvel Crynyd
Arvel famously sacrificed himself when his A-Wing was critically damaged, by plunging into the beige of the Super Star Destroyer Executor.
Jake Farrell
Jake flew the A-Wing that went into the Death Star II with Landon and Wedge. He broke off early to draw pursuing TIE Fighters off and headed back to the surface.
