I am honestly not worried about the business model. If I owned a game store I would be quite excited about this. Every tournament for this game would move product. When you purchase these from your local store, you are supporting their business. If you set up a tournament for $15 bucks that includes 1 new deck, admission and whatever swag that comes in a tournament you will probably profit. This is a great thing for game stores that often struggle because of Amazon and other big market sellers. Business model has alot of upside.
In the end, this game isn't going to be good for Min/maxers. You want to collect every single card and own all the noobs with your amazing crafted net deck then this game will not be up your alley and you should stay with MTG where the other try hard sweaties flock to FNM to crush other noobs with their $400 dollar net deck.

This game breaks the CCG/LCG mold. I wouldn't be surprised if, after a few tournaments get run, organizers of future ones also start changing formats to allow for the uniqueness of each deck. (Or, more precisely, the way that you can't just copy the other major decks out there.) And there is a lot of potential ideas:
Bring your own deck and sealed deck format: I don't think the standards will go away.
Handicapped: Bring your own deck. Play the tournament with handicaps based on the companion app's rating of your deck. (Obviously an easy system to game, so it probably wouldn't be for high-payout tournaments, just casual ones, or ones where all the players know each other.)
Deck exchange: Best 2 out of 3. Game 1 you play with your deck, game 2 you swap decks. If it goes on to game 3, you bid chains for the deck that won the first two games.
Deck swap: Bring in a deck. At the start of the tournament, everyone gets to look at the decks, and bid chains (that stick around through the tournament) for the deck you want. At the end of the tournament, you go home with the deck you played with.
Loser deck: Bring in your worst deck. Each game, hand it to your opponent, and play with his loser deck.

I would love to be the pilot of a deck that wins so many tournaments it gets banned. Because there’d Be no one else with that deck—it’s mine, and it went down in the history books as one of the probably limited number of decks to ban itself out.
    That sounds epic to me.

BuzzsawMF got a reaction from Xelto in Either I don't get it or this is an awfull mess
I don't really understand people losing their mind about this. The game seems casual and completely friendly to new players. Want to get into agot? Sweet, drop 600 bucks on the set and you can! Want to play MTG with relative success? I hope you have 400 bucks for 1 deck!

The main draw point about this game is going to a game shop, dropping $15 bucks to enter a tournament, getting a brand new deck and off you go. Anyone can do that even if they have never played this game before. After the tournament, hold on to your deck and play with  buddies for fun or to master it. The tournaments you can think of with this game are endless. Make a constructed tournament, pick an archon you have and build with the best you have or make a tournament where you buy a new deck, then at the end of every match, you exchange with your opponent and move one. Winner of the tournament will have played with 4-6 different decks depending on the amount of players. That would truly be a test of skill piloting a random deck that is randomly bought and randomly generated and still coming out on top.

There are alot of things to look forward to with this game.

Learn to play against it.  If you're facing Dragon, don't waste Honor drawing a huge hand until you know where Restoration is.  If you had 12 cards and you'd revealed three of the other Provinces then you already know where Restoration is.  Spend a turn playing defensively and putting those cards to good use (and paring down your hand while his voltrons stutter) or resign yourself to breaking Public Forum twice which, yeah, is a time sink but doesn't have any consequences other than the time sink.

    Liars? hyperbole much?
That doesn't make anyone a liar, and it's foolish to call them that.

If you are not zen enough to appreciate a larger card pool and get over the fact you can't afford every card you want, you need to take a breath. If  you are aggravated enough to leave this expertly-crafted game because their card-release schedule doesn't match your criteria for "good enough", then farewell.

One must not concern oneself with the peasants of which there are many. Let us Samurai enjoy the additional cards.

BuzzsawMF got a reaction from Mandalore525 in Historical References/inspirations?
I know there has to be a dedicated L5R veteran who is also knowledgeable on history that can list out the references to our actual history from L5R? For instance, Unicorn is clearly based on the Mongol horde. Are there any other historical references I can sink my teeth into? I know the history of L5R is being revamped, but I would still like to check look into this.

well ya, you see that all the time.

I hate this argument. Just because someone is a fantasy world doesn't mean ALL logic is out the window. If Aragorn in LotR fought while holding the pointy end of his sword and someone pointed out it was wrong would you say "by the giant flying eagles are legit"? (implying that its a fantasy world with some fantastic elements, so why can't he fight with his sword upside down?).

Altansarnai is still firing a bow from a horse, if she wanted to fire straight a head or behind or turn to her left she'd have to turn her to maneuver it around her horse's body. The Mongol bow is short so the rider/archer and easily maneuver it around the easily, giving them a much faster and wider firing arc. That is something logically the Unicorn should have/be aware of.

I realize to some extent I am feeding the troll.  I would also like to point out that yes, he agreed with my summary of his problems with the LCG.  My rebuttal is that AEG managed to run the CCG into the ground (in my mind, as well as most of my entire play group, who all quit, because it wasn't fun), and we all welcome the change with cautious optimism.  Old L5R has 20 years of history, but much of that history is drivel.  It maintained archaic and un-fun systems because they were "traditional", and they were too concerned with/afraid of the player base's opinion to implement needed change.
I guess oDESGOSTO is embracing the traditional samurai of spurning change because it is change.  Now that guns are available, he is staunchly sticking with his sword as a the ultimate weapon, because it always has been that way.

@oDESGOSTO What exactly is your goal then, with your posts?  You are clearly in the minority in this forum.  If someone is going to be here, they have most likely already accepted that they will try the LCG, and are probably more optimistic than you are by far.  I doubt your posts will convince anyone they are making a mistake.  This is the wrong audience for you.  You can try somewhere else where people haven't already made up their minds to give this a shot.

    Its an abomination! A Frankenstein!

Also it's funny how "he wants" something and then presents it all that as a fact.  No use in debating him, he would not change his mind even if some1 presented him with undeniable proof (like garfield netrunner link) he would do some logical gymnastic and rationalize it so it fits his opinion. I propose IGNORE. Worked for me.

This guy just commited seppuku. Clearly hating that L5R is not a copy of ccg, and then whining that "dumb" people will buy the same game over and over, this is GOLD

There is a lot of people eu based. Including me.
There were few people among hundreads we know, that had your attidute towards changes. After careful study, most of people recongnize ups and downs and claims that there is a lot more ups.
Just a few, one or two we have contact with, have such a hatred attitude agains FFG and their sacred cow.
What is your sacred cow? Your vision of how L5R LCG should look like. Any differencies with that vision are very unwelcome.

What is more, you are being rude and offensive here.
As soon as you will let it go and accept that there will be no l5r (ccg alike) being released now, the better for you.
I tried couple of times to point out flaws in your thinking, being ofcourse ignored.

Manner up, keep it cool and stay open minded. In other case - restrain from writing such offensive posts.
    I hope you will understand.
