  1. As many of you know I’ve used this forum for my technology and science related inquiries in reference to Star Wars. I’ve been told time and time again that Star Wars is not about technology and science; it is science fantasy not science fiction. Yet I can’t stop putting these two things together. My therapist doesn’t know what I should do and my OCD meds aren’t working well enough obviously. I’m pissed I can’t shake this obsession. I miss the days where I was obsessed with Force powers (c. pre-2011) which IS something Star Wars is all about; “magic”. Magic not nanites. I honestly don’t know what to do. Part of OCD is about chanting certain phrases or sayings to help me feel better. Does anybody have an opinion on my science and tech in Star Wars obsession. Some words of wisdom you can say to help me get over it. I want to move on and focus on the STORY, not the stupid science.
  2. Now come to think of it; if Star Wars is more fantasy then science, why do they have cybernetic limbs instead of something that regenerates limbs? Injecting you with a salve and then having a limb grow back like a Lizard looks like fantasy-magic science to me.
  3. Yeah my cousin likes Mass Effect. I should check it out but I NEVER intend anything to replace Star Wars. My whole life is centered around it since I was 6. My love of science and tech (while not the main point of Star Wars) still exists in the background and I’ve poured through page after page of Wookieepedia articles that talk about science. My first love of course is the story but my headcanon has a lot of science in it.
  4. I see where you’re coming from. Someone suggested I RPG Star Trek but I’m more drawn to Star Wars. It had a huge influence on me as a child due to the action; something Star Trek lacked. I still liked watching it though. From 2008-2010, I was obsessed with the possible applications of the Force so I was very much in sync with the primarily fantasy aspect. However in 2011, I became fascinated with futuristic science and for the last 3 years; I’ve become obsessed with integrating science into Star Wars. I know it’s a poor fit but it’s hard to stop my obsession. I’m currently on the highest level of psychiatric medicine for OCD which I was diagnosed with in 2012. So this is almost 9 years of manic behavior.
  5. I’m well aware that Star Wars is fictional and things exist or don’t because of what the plot demands; but I like to look at Star Wars from an in-universe point of view and scientifically. I know when Lucas wrote Star Wars in the late 70’s/early 80’s, he didn’t have the foresight (nobody did) to see what wonder technologies, like the internet, would be invented BUT let’s PRETEND Star Wars is real and we are people living in that society. Can anybody provide explanations as to why these things don’t exist in Star Wars? 1.) In Star Wars Resistance Season 2 which takes place in 34 BBY, Neeku says the Colossus station is running low on food, water and fuel. While this makes sense since they are in space and on the run and plot synopsis for episode “Hunt on Celsor 3” and “A Quick Salvage Run” has them try to find food and hyperfuel to make hyperspace jumps. Now I understand that they just might not have these resources onboard BUT the Colossus is like a giant city. Why doesn’t the Colossus have food synthesizers, water synthesizers or means to make synthetic coaxium? All ships have food synthesizers (we see that in Legends) and water IS able to be created from scratch. You just need to combine hydrogen and oxygen with a massive burst of explosive energy. Currently unsafe to do on Earth; I would imagine SW scientists would figure out out a way to replicate the process microscopically; without an explosion and make water. Coaxium is extremely volatile and probably would be tricky to engineer but they’ve been using it for 25,000 years; so I can’t believe someone hasn’t found a way to create it artificially. What’s the deal? 2.) Why hasn’t Star Wars discovered wireless power transmission like Tesla envisioned? They still plug everything in. Could wireless power have some drawbacks that make cords and wires a better option? 3.) The gay cat lover aliens from the 2015 Lando miniseries talk about affording the money to make a clone to serve as their surrogate child. In a world, where same-sex relationships are commonplace, I don’t understand why they don’t have artificial gametes so they can produce children with their bodies 4.) In a New Dawn, the mining facilities on Gorse are at the mercy of earthquakes generated by the tidal forces of its tidal locked moon Cynda. Many of the buildings are damaged by the quakes. Why don’t they have some sort of Geo-seismic stabilizers to help the structures be earthquake proof? We have some methods of earthquake protection on Earth; why don’t they? I can’t imagine they haven’t appeared in Legends 5.) Archex in Black Spire has had his lung damaged in a fight with Phasma. Why not replace it with an artificial lung like Demetrius Vidian had? 6.) Finally in the Phasma novel, Phasmas homeworld of Parnossos had been ravaged by nuclear war and the land is poisoned by radiation. I get nobody cares about a backwater rock like Parnossos, but surely they have some sort of “De-nuclearization” methods to clean the waste? Nuclear weapons and power are primitive in Star Wars so they should be able to clean it quite easily. Again. I know Star Wars runs on plot but from an in-universe perspective; what could be the problems for why these things aren’t done?
  6. Thanks! I guess I’m hyperspace their really isn’t a strict law of motion.
  7. WOAH. Hold on a moment. I have an exceptionally good memory but I did NOT remember that from TFA. Are you sure the ships were in the hyperspace tunnel but NOT moving? If so, sometime between ROTJ and TFA, they figured out how to achieve hyperstasis and my idea is viable. Is it true?
  8. I made a short list of stuff that I think would be challenging for a scientist to create in Star Wars but I don’t know if it would definetely be very difficult or even worth creating. Tell me if it would a) Be a challenge and b.) Worth doing? I have provided links for some of them if you are unfamiliar with them 1.) Hypercomputer- https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypercomputation 2.) Matrioksha Brain https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matrioshka_brain 3.) Water manufacturing- https://science.howstuffworks.com/environmental/earth/geophysics/manufacture-water.htm 4.) Ringworld https://www.trevorwrites.com/blog/2019/8/5/impossible-technologies-1-ringworlds 5.) Bio-building- Basically a building that is “alive” in the fact that it works like a biological system. I know the Yuuzhan Vong could probably do this and I think that was what was in Riptide but I’m not sure. 6.) Synthetic coaxium 7.) Human-Animal hybrid- https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Humanzee 8.) Hyperspace based structure- Basically a ship or space station that “sits” in hyperspace 9.) Artificial cosmogenesis- The creation of a Star 10.) Monopolium- https://arxiv.org/abs/hep-ph/0701133 11.) Mezoelectronics- electronics of the nanoscale with components using the effect of a strong dimensional quantum. 12.) Gastrobot- https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gastrobot 13.) Axion field propulsion- https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torsion_field_(pseudoscience) 14.) Gravitational balloon-Completely hollow shell worlds created on a planetary or larger scale by contained gas alone 15.) Coral continent- An entire artificial continent grown by genetically engineered coral 16.) Quarkics- analogous to "electronics", but of course a million times faster and smaller. 17. Global brain - https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_brain 18. Ouroboros habitat- https://www.hexapolis.com/2015/10/19/mits-conceptualized-mars-habitat-makes-use-of-native-silica-on-the-alien-planet/
  9. Yes but could it sit still in hyperspace or is that impossible?
  10. I was thinking of this great idea of a prison that exists in hyperspace; it just sits there in that dimension. Based on the rules of Star Wars; could that work? I only see a problem with having a ship travel to it with new prisoners. Would the ship be able to dock safely with the prison or would the prison have to revert to real space momentarily?
  11. On the page below , I have been editing and adding different techs from my internet searches and Wikipedia searches. I know this list is long but I wonder if you could help me finally pick something. Of all the things on this list (including the redlinks), which one is best to explore in Star Wars? When choosing make sure a.) It’s existence wouldn’t be logically assumed; it has to take effort and out of the box thinking to create b.) It doesn’t be a complete game changer for the story that takes away one of established rules. c.) It isn’t not worth researching. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_hypothetical_technologies
  12. Yeah. Ghostofaman is absolutely right. It’s one of the higher 11 dimensione.
  13. I’m not a physicist but let’s say hypothetically ;we have the Millennium Falcon. It’s FTL hyperdrive can go Class 0.5 past lightspeed. Then we have an X-wing which has a Class 1 past lightspeed drive. This is all from the lore. MF is 0.5 and X Wing is 1 but MF is faster. Anyway even though the Class 1 is “faster”; is it due to length contraction at FTL that’s make the lower grade drive faster or am I hopelessly off base?
  14. Yoda’s brain was briefly shown in the Clone Wars episode Voices when he was examined by that Jedi doctor when Qui-Gon was contacting him from behind the grave. It looked as I remember that Yoda had a brain with a “sub-brain” connected. It’s a dope image and I would like to see it again. I googled it and all that came up were marajuana images (🙄) and it’s not on Wookieepedia. Thanks!
  15. I just also don’t get why canon Disney Star Wars is so afraid of intergalactic stuff. Humans (sentient beings) are naturally curious by nature. If they’ve had FTL technology for over 1000 years; I don’t know why they didn’t ever try to leave the galaxy and colonize others. Once the Emperor took over; I would be by Andromeda by 18 BBY.
  16. I know that Batuu is said to be the last settled world before Wild Space but has it ever been identified in Legends OR canon, the last settled planet at the very edge of the galaxy; right before the Intergalactic Void?
  17. Here on Earth, we have catalogued and identified millions of galaxies. We even recently confirmed the presence of exoplanets in other galaxies and we track radiation and radio pulses from them. Since Star Wars is 1000x more advanced than us, do you think they have mapped out a lot of galaxies and have used advanced telescopes to see whether any of the planets in other galaxies have planets that support life. We estimate that their are 2 trillion galaxies in the universe but we can only photograph 100 billion. Do you think the astronomers of Star Wars can photograph galaxies at the edge of the universe (if the universe of course has an edge).
  18. What could be something that would be considered the most valuable artifact in the galaxy; that could literally be worth 1,000,000,000 credits? I might use this in a roleplay.
  19. What could I call a special spacesuit that can be used to go onto a ships hull to do repair WHILE still in hyperspace? Hypersuit seems like an obvious choice but I googled it and it’s the name of a real world AR suit. Hyperspace suit and Hyperspace survival suit don’t sound good. Also so has this ever been depicted in Star Wars before. A suit that lets you go out into hyperspace? Also could it work based on existing Star Wars rules.
  20. Their was a guy who used Ssi-Ruuvi enetchment technology to transfer people into Human Replica Droids. https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Human_replica_droid Hypergates exist https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Hypergate Zero point energy was experimental. https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Zero-point_energy Im giving up. This is impossible. 😡
  21. Good catch on the droid learning. I didn’t know those stats. As for the rest; https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Teleporter https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Mind_control_device https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Reanimation_serum Wookieepedia has an answer for virtually everything which makes my quest so hard.
  22. Class 1 hyperdrive exist. Nanotech is mentioned in both Legends and the new Canon. It is mentioned in the book Master & Apprentice which takes place in 39 BBY. The learning droid brain is good but I think droids already do that. C-3PO learned to pilot in ROTS and protocol droids aren’t originall programmed to do that. 3PO learned it. As for cloaking, I don’t think it’s that rare. Personal cloaking devices exist. Thanks though
  23. When trying to think of tech or science in my Star Wars story, I oftentimes ask myself. “Could it be done?” I look at all the science and tech that currently exists in canon and Legends and most of the time- I say “Definetely.” Even though we don’t see it; it’s probably their and certainly plausible. Shakdov thrusters? Never saw them but I’m sure Star Wars scientists could build an engine to move a star. Dyson spheres (which actually appeared in SWTOR) could be done; they would just be expensive and a waste of time to build. All genetic engineering feats can be accomplished based on what they have and any type of droid to do any function can be created. We don’t see an orgasm inducing drug (probably because it’s inappropriate), but their chemistry and desire to achieve it probably happened 100’s if not 1000’s of years before the New Republic. We don’t see everything but based on what we do see; it’s only logical that the other stuff also exists. Teleportation and time travel appeared in Legends and in Canon are only utilizable with the Force. I have to assume that in canon, they have been proven to be impossible to do scientifically or it exists in a lab and is not mainstream yet. The latter is probably what is true. Also anything to do with nanotechnology is probably child’s play and I’m sure that they are starting to go pico and femtotechnology. Intangibility is too controversial and I think remains to just be a force power. That being said. What would be something of a challenge for a scientist to create or would be stumping them? That’s what I want my scientist to tackle. Something they have no base for and have to start literally from scratch and would be grasping at straws for.
