kinnison got a reaction from awayputurwpn in "Helping" others with their dice results... Order 66.
This was a good podcast to listen to. I even had my Wife who is not a gamer listen to it and it sparked a lot of good conversations. This is typical of what I considered "advanced" class in gaming in EotE. Expert class is knowing that the boost die giving you an advantage because of using the right tools and saying you managed to figure out a quicker way to work on the engines next time
As a GM I am forced a lot of the times to narrate and interpret the results for my player. and one of my players is a typical "Alpha gamer" that does a lot of what the podcast is about. "Oh that roll is a success" soon after the dice are rolled.
The best I got from this is having my wife DESCRIBE what happened with 2 advantages. Then based on the description I gave her the mechanical result.

Honestly, the range bands for space combat suck. Especially when you have a dedicated pilot who is using his action to move while the others aim/fire. The problem becomes exasperated when a minion group of single pilot fighters has to go up against them and has to MOVE before it can even get into a firing range.
Most all my space/vehicle combats turn into chases of some form. The pilot is always assumed to be using one maneuver to fly/drive. and can either use an action, convert the action to a maneuver, or do an action and take strain to do a maneuver
In your example, i would just say X rounds to reach outer edges of atmosphere. and Y rounds to close and pass the station before you can jump. someone with astrogation can roll and try to decrease the time of Y

kinnison got a reaction from Lawthomp in Question: Debts To Pay
The planet does not matter for the adventure. it could be anything you want, part of your campaign, or even a new planet. In my campaign I didn't even use a Hutt, or gammorians in the first part. But a Noble with some thugs. I even used a new planet for the mine and placed it in my campaigns sector
All you need is a person who is in debt, who now has a deed to the mine and is desperate to get some liquid assest from it to pay off his debts so he doesn't get beaten up by Thugs he owes money to

kinnison got a reaction from bradknowles in Need help with SW Tech idea
Trying to figure out a way that a ship in Hyperspace can have a part removed/disabled that wont prevent it from dropping out of hyperspace, but might keep it IN hyperspace.
In one old WEG adventure (The Isis coordiantes) the ship they were on was sabotaged and there was a 5 in 6 chance that if they "Dead dropped" out of hyperspace they would be turned into a fine dust.
Best i can come up with is a missing hyperdrive inhibitor that isn't bad in itself, but could be bad if they somehow go off course or a uncharted mass gets in their path

Space combat in this game system SUCKS. Unless you turn it into a chase.
That is why when you are first introducing them to space/vehicle combat you throw a handful of TIE fighters at them, and expect them to beat it. then throw more, and finally bring in some beefier ships.

kinnison got a reaction from SFC Snuffy in Area Maps and Visual Representation for Battles
My players are very visual. I use a lot of WotC minis, and a Cheesex Battlemat as my primary means of communication the scene for combat.
sometimes it can be this simple

Christopher Franke. Best known for this Babylon 5
Either that or Jerry Goldsmith (superman)

If Darth Maul can get cut in half at the waist, and fall down a deep shaft... anyone can survive afterwards
Writers will always come up with some way to bring them back if there is no body, and no funeral. and even then in star wars they can clone them from parts they find lying around

So you got a doodad he has to use the dark side to use
and his primary weapon he has to use the dark side to use
so please tell me what can he do where he is using light side instead?

kinnison got a reaction from bradknowles in How do you deal with Cargo, and Trading?
*sigh* I would have allowed the gunslinger to keep his guns. If he did something besides say no. Like talking to the captain for an exception. or saying "Hey how about I be your enforcer, or security?". Or having the player playing the Face character negotiate on his behalf.
But he did nothing... and look what happened

Tho honestly, use the players imaginations to flesh out the details. "He seems to be eating a meat pie with some green and purple bits in a Orange sauce that is dribbling down his chin" don't even need to give the dish a name
another is fleshing out NPCs. I give them a voice, and some mannerisms or quirks... like teeth sucking, table tapping... which allows players to connect to the character beyond a name and description. I knew I hit a Jackpot when they tried to contact someone and all I had to do was use the NPCs voice and they knew who it was.

kinnison got a reaction from kaosoe in Kwenn Station, Fair Enough... But what does the Planet Look like?
Here is your information, from the PIOOMA 'Pulling it out of my hindquarters creative department'
The station is the draw. Not the planet below.
Honestly if there is need for a planet or moon, Just create one for the sake of plot. But if it is not needed, and players are just poking around it is okay to say "maybe, but it is not important to the adventure"

Back in the day that IS why people bought that
The WEG imperial sourcebook was another goldmine of information that I lot of players had. With a little searching you can find all the old WEG SW books in PDF format online

For your campaign, figure out where you are going to go, and be doing. No point in getting the Hutt book, or corellian book if you never are going to adventure there. (unless you have a character from the Corellian sector, or Hutt space) Nor am I going to be buying any of the F&D books beyond the core book and Nexus of Power cause I am not going to run that type of game any time in the future.
For me I have had the most mileage out of Beyond the Rim, and the adventure "debts to pay" was one of my favorites. The rest depends on your Players and their characters mainly for the carrer books.
Jewel of Yavin is more then just an adventure, it is an incredible resource if you are ever going to Cloud City. Not so much IMHO the "assault at arda" and "Mask of the pirate queen"
I have also gotten copies of the old West End games books, specifically "Black sands of Socorro" and "Galaxy guide #6 : tramp freighters". Both were bought specifically for campaigns

kinnison got a reaction from bradknowles in Players and the Perpetual Poverty Problem
I highly doubt Ecumenopolis are totally without any self-sufficiency. Even in todays technology and culture we have Vertical farms in the middle of the city. Also many Sci-FI novels have Algea vats, and even Protien vats when waste gets recycled, processsed and reused and powered by anaerobic digestors
In my game, the players have gained about 250xp. they are not longer "Hungry" but they still don't have enough to do speculative trading and fill their ships cargo hold without putting a loan on the ship. Most of the time for any pure cargo run I put a flat rate on the "profit" that includes the deduction of fees and refueling. i really don't want to turn in the game into bookkeeping. The next part of the adventure the players will be given a ship with a lot of problems and while providing transportation to a Traveling Troupe and band they are going to have to make a profit doing cargo runs to upgrade and repair the ship

kinnison got a reaction from GMRen in Those Amazing Young Inquisitors and their Flying...Lightsabers!?
why are we trying to justify and explain bad writing? or a "it looks cool" moment. it would have been easier to give them something like Cad Bane's rocket boots then try to explain spinny lightsaber blades.
When I saw the episode, i started making Jetson car noises every time they flew with their spinny blades, just to clarify the absurdity
