kinnison got a reaction from GroggyGolem in Jedha after Rogue One
I do not think it would be uninhabitable. We are talking about a near cataclysmic event that wiped for what we know to be the main city of the planet and anything near it. Sending ejecta up into the upper atmosphere.
Constant sandstorms, nuclear winter, Electromatic interferance in the atmosphere, raging storms.
But to be honest, not many would know before going there what happened to the moon. and players could easily say "This cannot be the right place" and "I have a bad feeling about this"

kinnison reacted to Ghostofman in Eclipse - Too Big to Stat
Dig up a copy of Dark Empire sometime. It's a classic example of "when good ideas are buried under a pile of dirty toilets covered in LSD and a hatred of you and everything you stand for."
Seriously though, it has a lot of bits and pieces that are now classic Star Wars EU. E-wings, Mobquet Transports, Ganks. I think it was even one of, if not the, first appearance of Nar Shadda.
And it's super weapons were a nice departure from the norm. The World Devistators were a nice twist on planet destroyer weapons, and the galaxy gun, while over-the-top in scope and scale, was conceptually kinda neat.
Sadly the overarching story was pretty derpy. "Oh no, we have to defeat the Emperor... Again....And again....And again..." And for every cool thing there were a dozen mind farts on paper. (The falcon gets a lightning gun from an old as dirt cyber steampunk Jedi king who looks like a midget stuck in a floating carburator, Boba Fett drives like a blind old lady, Han Solos robot Butler, R2-D2 is a member of Echo Mirage, Solos Ex is fugly and her new boyfriend has a serious case of space herpes... I can keep going... )
Finally the artwork was this bizarre psychedelic water color thing that lacked definition and detail. So it didn't really look very Star Wars...

kinnison reacted to OggDude in Another Character Generator
Well, I've updated the release notes, finished the documentation and FAQ and created PDFs for them, and just did a new round of updating the translation files. These are things that I do right before a release...
If I can get through tomorrow without doing any more tweaks, I'll do the release on Sunday. Also, I've decided to make this one 2.0, since I've added so many things to it, and changed the appearance quite a bit with new fonts, etc.
No promises, but look for 2.0 to be released on Sunday.

kinnison reacted to owenmead in I Built A Dice Rolling App - Solves Hangouts Dropping Apps
Hey everyone,
Part of a group of friends who play over the internet. We were using the Hangouts plugins to do our dice rolling. Now that's shutting down.
So I built one that has the realtime shared dice rolls, but stands on its own:
https://dice.owenmead.com/
Been using it for a handful of runs and ironed out a lot of the kinks already. Missing a couple features the best plugin we were using had, but it's working well so far.
Wanted to share the love in case others have run into a similar issue.
Let me know what you think.
------------ Updates ---------------
- Can add automatic advantage/threat/success.... to rolls. Click Extras to show them [Sep 1]
- Sorting of rolls added. Click user portrait of rolls, then sort via the new menu at the top [Sep 1]
- Triumph/Despair now on leftmost side of summary roll, easier to read [Sep 1]
- Can clear personal list of results [Mar 20]
- Added ability to comment on rolls [Feb 23]

kinnison got a reaction from GroggyGolem in Help with Looting Players
I think someone would be quite upset that the million credits they spent went to a bunch of low lifes and the person who was suppose to get it was dead.
most hutts would gladly spend ten times that amount to recover it, and make an example you do not just take credits from a hutt and not give him something of equal or better value in return

kinnison reacted to Kommissar in Interpreting really wild dice rolls
I'm recreating this from an old memory, so its a bit hazy for me, but I had a situation like this at the table. It was quite possibly one of our groups most spectacular experiences with EotE and is probably the chief reason why our group loves the system (despite the game also being one that permanently fractured our gaming group, but that is a story for another time).
Alright, so the players were uncovering a series of clues, and realized they needed to explore a location on the surface of Duro. The planet's surface is off limits and is patrolled by the empire to prevent entry. So the first thing the players do is attempt to work out a plan for how to sneak past the patrols, using sensors and other information to make sure its even remotely possible (can't remember the exact check I had for this). They did succeed with some advantages and they were informed of its relative difficulty, and the advantages got a boost die for when they tried to do it.
Then they attempted a stealth check. They failed, but had some advantages. The failure was that they were detected, and a patrol wing of tie fighters was coming to investigate, but the advantages were that there was some distance, as well as the ties were not immediately hostile.
They were contacted by the wing leader, and ordered to divert course and submit to an inspection. The players attempted to fast talk their way out of this, claiming a ship malfunction and being forced to land. They rolled a net failure, but again, multiple advantages. In this case, I ruled the advantages as them having a bit more time before things got worse, but the failure was that the patrol leader wasn't buying it.
So the mechanic in the group had the bright idea of trying to add more "evidence" to the situation, and attempted to make a mechanics check to cause the appearance of a serious ship malfunction, while also obviously not causing actual damage to the ship. I liked the sound of this, but wanted to heat things up, so I boosted difficulty with a force point. They rolled a net success, with a triumph, a despair, and a whole lot of threat. Ruled the success as there indeed was the appearance of damage, the triumph as the patrol leader actually believing it without question, the threat as resulting in a pile of system strain for the ship, (and my favorite) ruled that the despair, combined with the triumph, was that they just happened to find the one "good guy" tie fighter pilot in the entire sector, and by hell, this pilot was going to do -anything- to save this crashing vessel. Any hope of a stealthy arrival was off, as the pilot was sending requests for rescue ships to come pick them up. It got to the point where the tie fighter was actually attempting to fly under the players ship to help them gain altitude.
I can't quite remember how it ended from there, but they did manage to jam the comms to prevent more imperial activity, and eventually atmospheric conditions caused the tie fighters to break off. But the despair caused the players to lose a lot of time trying to evade the rescue party and had a sizable impact upon the pacing of the narrative (they were in more of a hurry now as they were lagging behind the actual villains in chasing down the MacGuffin).

kinnison got a reaction from Mark Caliber in Jump Denial Screen
A few things are needed to jump IMHO and the way I work Hyperspace in my game universe
1. Free of gravity wells. Arbitrarily 6 rounds of a travel from leaving atmosphere, which can be modified a few rounds by a good/bad astrogation roll. Micro jumping only works in Deep space FREE of a gravity well.. so you still need the rounds to escape the planets gravity.
2. 1-2 turns of non-evasive fly/drive maneuvers to set up the jump for the Navicomp.. basically on autopilot as the Navicomp aligns the ship to the desired course which is free of any potential collisions
Larger ships like Star Destroyers just set up a blockade in this area to deny escape from the planet (Example is the aftermath of the Battle of Hoth in ESB, Escaping from Naboo in TPM) Smaller ships can intercept, but will not be able to deny a jump That is why you use Interdictors, Gravity mines, or even slicing attempts. to prevent travel.
Or some crafty criminals can attempt to disable the ships hyperdrive when they are landed.

Some interesting takes on Chirrut Îmwe as a "zama-shiro" Martial Artist with an "Echo Box" and some stats on Cassisan's multi-purpose blaster, and Baze Malbus' Illegally modified Repeating blaster

kinnison got a reaction from Richardbuxton in Advice for running Jewel of Yavin
Do a forum search for the jewel of Yavin, there is a lot of great advice and variations.
The best thing you can do, is make the Bidders, and main characters important to your players.
I have already introduced Aris Shen to one of my players as a former classmate while they took a class taught by Shreya Ordassa. And have already built a positive relationship with Aris and my players
Another player has had dealings with Hutts, and I will use Kathlo to further his background story and obligation
The smuggler character in my group is going to have a lot of contacts and know some of the in's and outs of the cloud city, and has already starting building a reputation as a Racer.

kinnison reacted to FinarinPanjoro in How to handle PCs vs. vehicles combat?
A few thoughts:
Remember the Aiming rules: PC can take the aim maneuver and 2 setback dice instead of a boost to target a specific component. I've used this to allow weak spots with half-armor (soak 15 for an AT-ST) to be hit or even the pilots themselves (through the oh-so-convienient eye-slits). I typically don't let them gain an auto-critical hit by doing this, but let them do things that enhance their chances with temporary effects. Something like aim at the knee joint and cause it to misstep so that it can't bring it's weapons to bear on the PCs this round, or hitting the weapon so that the targeting sensors have to recalibrate, or causing smoke that blinds the drivers, immobilizing it for a turn, etc.
Allow Blast weapons to affect the drivers on a Triumph or 4 advantage: A grenade right between the eye-slit is going to hurt the guys inside (just saying).
Give Vehicle Weapons the Blast Quality equal to their damage x2 and Knockdown. Allow the gunners to trade successes for advantages to activate blast or knockdown. That way you can narrate that a successful hit was deliberately targeted to the center of the group of PCs to hit more of them rather than vaporizing just one of them (which is more how we see them used in the movies anyway).
And as everyone has said- Terrain, Terrain, Terrain. Remember that what is passable terrain for the PCs may be impassable or difficult terrain for a walker/vehicle. Also if there is substantial cover then taking a maneuver to take cover could grant 2 setback dice and taking two maneuvers to take cover (spending 2 strain or downgrading your action) can break line of sight (vehicle can't attack you) until the walker takes two maneuvers to reacquire you.
