  1. In related news, who all is going to RIW tonight?

I won't be able to make it to RIW tonight because one of my labmates graduated and we're having a farewell dinner for him. I think I should be able to make RIW Thursdays more generally in the coming months, though. We'll see.

A few of us will be at Fun 4 All on Saturday afternoon (2pm) if anyone wants to get some games in this weekend.

  2. I personaly believe that the best escort for Vessery is

Omicron Group Pilot + FCS + Weapon Engineer + ST 321 title (+Engine Upgrade if you want)

Take a Target Lock on any ship on the map and get a second one free. It raise the odds of Vessery having a target with a TL on him.

I like this idea, too. This can be tough in 100 point lists, but I foresee the Lambda being much more effective in Epic/Cinematic play when there are many more targets to choose from and Huge ships lumber slowly around the table.

  3. Indeed it can be interesting, but for long term damage, the HLC with a TL and focus is much more devastating than a one time use missile.

Sure, but then I would argue that a live Interceptor is much more effective than a dead one.

  4. I was thinking of a really similar Defender list:

    • Vessery + Assault Missiles
    • Royal Guard + PtL + Targeting Comp + Hull Upgrade + RG Title
    • Royal Guard + PtL + Targeting Comp + Hull Upgrade + RG Title

The idea is that if Vessery and just one of the Royal Guards take a TL on the same enemy ship, Vessery can spend his TL to fire his Assault Missiles, roll dice, and immediately gain a new TL with which to reroll his dice.

  5. I was a4rino's opponent... and I'm pretty sure it would have gone differently had his 1 hull interceptor not rolled 3 evades on 3 different attacks... The thing just wouldn't die!  That said, Corran's higher PS was critical in maneuvering against Echo.  So it sounds like either a turret or high PS ship will be required to take him out.

Was it really 3 different attacks? I just remember the one when I had 1 hull left and canceled 3 of your hits with an evade+eyeball+eyeball result. Good thing I decided not to spend that Focus token on offense!

I do know this: that Hull Upgrade on the Interceptor was among the best 3 points I've ever spent!

  6. I won a really hard fought final round with the following list:

    • Echo + Stygium Particle Accelerator + Sensor Jammer + Outmaneuver
    • Onyx Squadron Pilot
    • Royal Guard Pilot + Push the Limit + Hull Upgrade

But I kept forgetting to apply Outmaneuver.

My opponent ran Corran (with upgrades), Blount (with upgrades), and 2 Rookies. Because he didn't fly any ships with 360 degree firing arcs, Echo mostly had his run of the place (Echo did get hit once, losing shields).

I really am not a fan of the Defender's dial, chiefly because hard 1 and 2 turns are red maneuvers. I basically sacrificed my Defender on the first pass so that my shiftier ships could live to joust.

The Phantom, and Echo in particular, is tremendous. In one instance, I decloaked forward 2 bank right followed by maneuver of a 3 bank right (equivalent of a 6 bank right maneuver, I suppose), landing Echo most of the way across the play area and breathing down Corran's neck. This ship was a blast to fly because it is unlike any of the other ships. I tried to place Echo so that the only way he would end up in enemy arcs would be if my opponent K-turned; that way my opponent's ships wouldn't be able to Focus and the Sensor Jammer could negate a hit flat out.

For most ships, you want to make sure you have someone in arc every turn; with the Phantom, you must unlearn what you have learned. There is no shame in retreating, cloaking, and popping out somewhere totally unexpected 1 or 2 turns later.

And for the love of God don't give it PtL. Can't afford the stress.

  7. I have a question about RIW for Sunday.

I've only ever been to RIW for a scheduled event (tourney or Thursday game night), so I always go into the room with the sign on it that says it's for scheduled events.

On Sunday we won't be a scheduled event. Where's the room for that?

  8.

    Corran w/ FCS

    Cracken w/ SL

    Rookie

    Rookie

    Total: 100pts

I'm so torn between Cracken and Blount for a list like this..  Cracken is nice in the long game, but that assault missile on Blount...

    Decisions decisions..

Well Blount+Assault Missile is great for combating swarms flying in formation, but the predicament facing Imperial players is that ~60 of their squad points will be tied up in two ships, and at least one of these (Phantom) will almost certainly be out of formation. Cracken is the way to go with that list.

  9.

They are saying October for the interstate, but I'm not holding my breath on that one.

Wow! I think I underestimated the scope of that project. I just assumed that they were patching up the damage caused this past winter. October sounds like they're tearing everything up and starting anew.

  10.

Going to attempt to make it to RIW tonight before I work, will there be people up there for me to make the trip?

I'm in a difficult situation as my girlfriend just got in town and works 3 days a week until 7pm, and she uses my car to get to work and back. So on Thursdays when she's working, I have no car; on Thursdays when she's not working, she expects me to be home. Needless to say, I don't expect to be making it out to RIW in the next couple of weeks. Things will probably go back to normal once she's been here a while and gets tired of seeing me  .

On a semi-related note, does anyone know when the interstate is supposed to re-open? Last time it took me 45 minutes to get out there from Ann Arbor, and 1.5 hrs round trip is a little much for an evening of gaming.

  11. I talked yesterday to James from Fun 4 All in Ypsilanti. He was receptive to hosting the Imdaar Alpha event on either Saturday (May 31) or Sunday (June 1), depending on anticipated turnout. I made a post about this on the X-Wing Michigan Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/628108733880477/permalink/756308974393785/?stream_ref=2

If you're a member of that group, just let me know on there. If you're not a member of that group, let me know on this thread if you plan to attend the Imdaar Alpha event at Fun 4 All and indicate which day(s) you would be able to attend (Saturday or Sunday). Please don't post in both places because I can't keep track of usernames vs. birth names.

  12. It looks like I will probably be coordinating Fun 4 All's Imdaar Alpha event (because Toggle will be out of town). F4A has plenty of table space and should be able to accommodate as many players as come out.

I haven't talked to any of the people at F4A since locations were announced so I can't speculate on what day/time we'll be running the event, but I will be sure to keep you guys apprised on here once I get details.
