  1. Thanks for all of your work Max, for your level-headedness and creativity about the game over these past years. The easy question is how was the viability of campaign play analyzed, and how did you arrive at epic battles as a sort of compromise between a lot of factors, I imagine. The hard question is the elephant in the room. I'm guessing you can't divulge too much information but we really are peering into the abyss of no news - how confident was the team that 1) x-wing will survive into 2021+ and 2) FFG and its beloved board games (I'm concerned I'll never get my hands on a TI4 reprint for example). I understand if you can't say anything about those.
  2. Reminder: the 11th Vassal League season starts in about 6 days. Signups are still open: https://listfortress.com/league (they typically remain open for a short time after play starts) So far, we have 70 players signed up! Two world champions Paul Heaver and Oli Pocknell are signed in as well! Signed up so far: https://listfortress.com/league_signups
  3. https://www.facebook.com/groups/flybetter/?ref=share If you search the group for 'discord' you'll find a link. They really should put it in the group description.
  4. These groups are pretty good replacements: 1) XwingTMG reddit 2) Fly Better podcast facebook group as well as its discord 3) Gold Squadron Podcast facebook group as well as its discord They don't capture exactly what a forum does, although reddit comes closest. Reddit, if you're not familiar, has ways of promoting a combination of newest and most engaging posts in a way that's a bit smarter than a forum where any reply to an arbitrarily old thread will bring it flatly to the top. As for fb groups, it depends on your own activity elsewhere; those groups might compete for a small slice of your attention if you do a lot of stuff elsewhere. Discord is a good midway solution between the first two but it tends to be tiring to sift through heavy activity - this leads to short term memory about topics, which tend to not be as powerfully explored as a good ol' forum thread. But hey, at least you'll catch the important news and topics if you expose yourself to it.

  7. Yes. The people who did not first update to v3.4.11 of the client are getting an offscreen modal popup that needs to be dismissed (simple enter keystroke will do it as it mimicks a mouse click on the focused OK button of that unseen popup) first before you can continue. I've seen popups before coming from the client and my guess is that it's saying you should use v3.4.11 since the x-wing module was last edited with it and it would be optimal with it. It's no big deal if you know about it, but it's very confusing when you don't. It's no big deal if you're running a client between v3.4.2 and v3.4.10 iirc, but take no chances and cut yourself the chance for a headache and update to v3.4.11. I've told the vassal devs and they semi-believe me that it's happening....
  8. the module appears as v9.1.7 in the list of modules of your vassal client program and seems to be listed as compatible with v3.4.7, but it's really v9.2.0 and is 3.4.11 compatible. If that annoys you, edit the module for a second, add a space and remove it somewhere as to trigger an empty modification, and save the module. It'll appear correctly. Only do so if you're OCD. There's no consequence into keeping as it is. The module recognizes itself as 9.2.0 when it runs.
  9. Go to vassalengine.org and update your main client program to v3 4.11. What you're getting is an unfortunate offscreen pop-up warning you that the module might not run under whatever older Vassal client you have. You can dismiss it with enter (which would "click the ok button") or even better, update your stuff. This is from the Vassal people, not from me. I warned them that this is happening.
  10. https://xwvassal.wordpress.com/2020/11/30/x-wing-vassal-module-v9-2-0-move-through-ship-zam-wesell-hide-reveal-aces-high-automated-marker/ Move through ship, Zam Wesell hide/reveal, Aces High automated marker
  11. D6 and D10, but yeah, that could be done easily now, use the randomize button in YASB2, put them on the side of the map in advance
  12. This is a targeted gift to the few groups of players who regularly meet on Vassal for a heated round of Aces High. I felt their pain when they have to respawn their ships. I should release it and a handful of other features within the next 24 hours.

  14. The one thing that gives me hope for the long term future of this game is that this community is robust creativity wise. We've seen countless small projects aiming to create involved multi-mission campaigns, alternative tournament structures, even going as far as doing a ship-by-ship stats and point cost overhaul during the first edition. One major thing stiffling a total take over of the rules is the base level confidence in FFG doing a very good job with 2nd edition and having to "compete" against them. The overwhelming majority of players rally with the official take on things. My thinking is that there is pent-up high quality creativity that hasn't expressed itself yet. But, what if this game really, officially, commercially tanks in a year or 2 after a couple of waves? I'm confident there'll be a one or a few major banners for community-driven efforts at maintaining the games, updating the points and shaping an evolving meta with the stock of ships we have, at least for a few years still. I might be rosy-tintend glasses on that one, but I'm thinking the power vacuum in the reins of this game will induce this.
