mazz0 reacted to Revan Reborn in Upgrade Box from GenCon Reveal
I'm aware that existing players won't be "required" to upgrade to the new standard size cards...
But let's be real: "Hardcore" Armada players will feel obligated to upgrade, even though they don't "need" to. The mere existence of the new cards will exert pressure on Armada players to upgrade.
It's comparable to the artificial, psychological pressure that iPhone loyalists feel (some might call it a compulsion) to upgrade to a new iPhone every year, even when it's an "S model" year.
That same pressure applies to game like Armada and X-Wing, and probably Legion in a few years. FFG/Asmodee knew that when they chose to change the cards' sizes and create the Upgrade Card Collection Pack. I'm certain that they're counting on that pressure to drive sales.
I'd wager that if I'm wrong and it turns out that only new Armada players end up buying the Upgrade Card Collection, it would be an embarrassing and costly failure for FFG. I don't want that, but I really don't want to buy the Upgrade Card Collection either.

I agree. I think the Upgrade Card Pack is great for new players and existing Armada players with small collections and/or haven't been able to get the rarer ships, like the Arquitens or SSD.
However, I don't like the card size increase from Mini-American to Standard size -- or the ship cards being reduced from tarot to standard size either. I love the tarot size cards!
I'd genuinely like to know why FFG decided to change the card sizes, because it seems completely unnecessary and is really inconvenient for existing Armada players.
The thing I'm most concerned with about the Upgrade Card Pack is how many copies of non-unique Upgrade cards will there be in the pack? Because the Legion Upgrade Card Pack had 2-3 copies of upgrade cards. I presume that the Armada Upgrade Card Pack will have 2-3 copies too. That's not bad... but it doesn't match my collection of cards. So if I wanted to replicate my Armada card collection in the new standard size card format, I would probably need to buy multiple upgrade card packs. I'm not happy about that.
It makes me wish that FFG would offer some kind of "Loyalty" discount to existing Armada players.
The ideal solution would be an online order form or website that would allow existing Armada players to order upgrade cards à la carte for a reasonable price per card, and FFG would assemble the card collection and send it to us. That would be my preference, rather than buy 2 or more Upgrade Card Packs and getting duplicate Commanders, Ship Titles, and unique Officers that I can't use -- it's a waste!

I agree, its a weird choice to make the upgrades bigger in a game that normally uses many of them and needs so much space to store, transport and play. Besides, I believe that most players will agree that the tarot size for ships and that small size for upgrades was a perfect combination.

Same here. I really like the idea and I hope they do more card packs, but I'd rather have smaller cards to take up less space on the table.

It matters a lot, certainly enough to feel lied to, if you wanted to experience it live. I don't mind because I didn't plan to, but I didn't think there would be anything until tomorrow, and it did sort of throw off my anti-spoiler feelings. It's not a huge thing, but it sucks if you wanted the thrill of seeing it as it happened.

That's a good way to sell me reprint. Excited about all the not sequel stuff there. I am glad I do not play Resistance as I rather hate those paint schemes. Just not my cup of tea.

Well now I feel stupid! I also blame paper books. Why can’t they have links and searches like sensible media?

Read the full talent description in the "New Talents" section of CotR. If you still have questions, I'll try to answer them.

Just want to say something regarding Merrin's "Teleportation" in Fallen Order. It's heavily implied she's not actually teleporting, and is deliberately deceiving Cal into thinking she's teleporting. It's more likely that she's making herself invisible, given her "appearance" and "disappearance" have the same effect as what she gives to the party's ship at the end of the game. Her voice can still be heard even when she isn't "physically present" as well, implying she's just invisible but still nearby. So there is no teleportation. It's basically just the Misdirect power being used creatively.

mazz0 reacted to Admiral Calkins in If FFG/Asmodee developed an official SW Armada digital game, would you buy/play it?
As long as I didn't have to buy digital versions of each expansion, I would buy it AND continue to buy at least two of every physical expansion.

What use case do you have in mind for that though? Here’s my thinking:
It’s a shuttle - is it designed for carrying cargo to and from the main ship, or is it designed for blasting its way through blockades to take things from armed opponents? Being good at one makes you worse at the other, and a compromise is going to be bad at both.
Let’s make a real life analogy: you take a Ford Transit and put a turret on the roof. You’ve lost a huge chunk of cargo space under the turret, there’s now some cargo that simply won’t fit inside, and do you have a fighting vehicle which is going to stand against a tank or even a properly armed military light utility vehicle? I think the answer is no - you’ve got a crap van and a crap fighting vehicle.
I‘m sure there are some niche applications where a bad cargo transport with minor offensive capability is useful. Stealing from very poorly armed civilians perhaps? Other than that I can’t think of a viable application. It’s not going to fight its way past an imperial blockade or past the defences of the Hutts or Golden Dawn, so what am I sacrificing cargo capacity for? Who is CEC marketing this thing at?
I’m aware by the way how silly this discussion is. It’s Star Wars! Sensible ships design would be extremely incongruous here! 😛

That is too big of a base. A 6x3 board only has so much room for maneuvering big bases when one accounts for terrain. The Saber/AAT get around this by being hover vehicles that can get on top over buildings/walls/rocks/etc either sitting flat or using a 45 degree angle. Ignoring the fact that an 11 inch base wouldn't fit in most deployment zones (unless you allow it to break the deployment rules or something else equally silly), a model of that size doesn't work well when considering its threat range. With only speed 1 movements, it could move from one long board edge to another in a single turn.

An LAAT is not 28 meters its 18. an ATTE base would be around 11 inches. Which imo is doable

The two things that stand out in that picture:
1) won't it feel weird having a sleeve on one arm and not the other?
2) my, she holds her thumb close to the blade doesn't she?
