My suggestion is to stack and overlap so that the art is visible. That should at least save a good amount of table space. Most of the time you can recognize the card by the art, especially now that they're larger.
Would it have been nice for them to stay mini? Yeah. But there's a special kind a hilarity in pre-emptively calling others 'snowflakes' while going on a huge rant about playing cards in a game.

cant say I disagree. Minus the „snowflakes“, that is a term that should disappear.

mazz0 reacted to KAGE13 in Dumbest Change Ever!
The rule changes are all fine, but what ever dumbass decided on the large cards, I honestly and sincerely hope you were one of the people fired. Im not even joking a little bit.
In all my years of gaming this is the dumbest thing i have ever seen. I have no problem paying money for updated cards or what ever else armada puts out. I will buy it all. I spent $900 on this release alone. So money isnt the issue.
At first i didn't think it would have been a big deal, but now that i have played with them...what a s*** storm. And i have a full 8' x 4' table. This was clearly and executive decision and not by someone who actually plays the game.
First of all puting ship data on both sides of the card is rediculous. You cannot build a fleet without continously flipping the card over. And this is even reflected in Ryan Kingstons site. You have to pick the ship before you can see what upgrades it can use. You cannot see what upgrades to take and look at the ships stats at the same time without continously flipping the the card or using a 2nd card. Rediculous!
Oh and during the game "how much is that ship worth? I have no god **** idea...let me fip the cards over so i can count up your points".
We have these massive damage cards that you HAVE to put into the playing area because there is zero room off the table to put beside the ship card.
FFG Idiot: "Now that we have these massive cards that take up the same space as 4 mini cards and the whole table...oh i know lets make even more exhastable cards so it takes even more room."
And probably the worst part there is no segregation of ships and squadrons. Before you could set things up like a sort of dash board now everthing just meshes together because its all the same and you cannot even leave gaps to segregate different ships. There is no room.
And if you tell me it was so they could fit all the new text...I call BS. You already have squadrons with half their abilities listed in the rule book. They could have done that.
You know why they put all the rules for putting tokens and dials on the table? Because there is no room off the table for them.
The game was already fiddly enough. The only complant I ever had for an otherwise perfect game. Now you've made it 100 times worse. And I now need a 8'×5' table. These big cards are a joke.
Oh i know. FFG, for your next great idea lets make defense tokens 8" long because because some dummy says he cannot see them.
Good luck at tournaments that use those tables that are less then 4' wide.
Im not even sure why im posting this because it will fall on deaf ears and all the snowflakes will tell me its not that bad. It is that bad.

Yep, pretty much my feelings exactly. However, I’d be surprised if Wave 1 isn’t almost ready already, so probably won’t be delayed by the move. Might be delayed by the pandemic though.

Oh gawds, X-Wing and Legion players are going to literally die from lack of attention if that's the case.

I'm not at all concerned that Armada moving to AMG will disrupt Clone Wars Armada's scheduled releases, because this wasn't a rash decision; Asmodee has obviously been planning this for a while. That explains why there haven't been any new expansions announced for Armada, X-Wing, or Legion to be released after January 2021. The expansions that have already been announced will have the FFG label, and any new expansions announced will presumably have the AMG label. Asmodee has deliberately created a gap in their release schedule to facilitate the Star Wars games' transition to AMG.
That's probably why the second wave of Clone Wars Armada ships is being releasing so soon after the launch wave. Asmodee wants to get those last FFG Armada ships out ASAP and then have AMG take over for subsequent waves.
I suspect that will mean there will be a substantial gap in new Star Wars miniatures products after January 2021. There might not be anything new for Armada, X-Wing, or Legion until GenCon 2021 -- and by nothing, I mean nothing even announced. I think GenCon 2021 could be used as the grand unveiling of AMG's Star Wars games line-up, and those new expansions will be released in the latter half of 2021.

I'm not at all in that camp. I'm keeping my stuff. It is simply a question of whether I'll be getting more. If I get the Dec. stuff AND the Q1 stuff I'm good as I've got my game. Without the Q1 stuff I don't want the December stuff.
I think you're mischaracterizing this as "panic." It is prudence. The move makes it a bit more clear why there was so much waffling about the new starter ships getting individual releases - they really don't know what's going to happen. So what else don't they know about? What else have they been holding back? No formal announcement on this Q1 stuff looks a lot different in the light of the just announced move.
I don't suspect they're going to tell us it isn't coming. They've got to protect the release of the Clone Wars stuff presuming it is past the point of cancellation. They've taken pre-order for it. Cancelling that stuff is a lot different than simply not releasing stuff that was talked about in an eight month old video and again in the summer only in video.

I'd bet money (not a lot of money, but money) that the Q1 expansions will still be released on time (worst case scenario they get pushed to the last week of March). The new factions need these expansions to be competitive with the old ones, or even playable outside 200 point starter pack demo games (or shelling out an extra 300 dollars for Acc/Muni spam, but very few people are going to do that). If they delay the first wave, they risk losing the momentum of Clone Wars launch when people get bored of 2 ships per faction, and that can hurt potential sales and new playerbase growth in the long run.
I think its a bit more likely that there could be a content drought following the first wave of releases while the new teams get settled in, unless FFG has unannounced expansions well underway they can easily pass on to AMG. In this case, I could see individual releases of the starter ships being released with new titles/upgrades to fill the void without a ton of investment. I'm no economic analyst though.

Yes, well it seems there should have been a bit more of an announcement doesn't it? If only to help push the new starters and things. In light of the move it seems quite a bit more urgent at least to me. It seems reasonable that we'll see it. It also doesn't seem unreasonable that we won't.
What is planned and what actually occurs aren't always similar.

Given the new regarding movement of design to a new studio should we expect those four Clone Wars expansions? While the movement of design news explains all the wishy-washy regarding whether the Clone Wars Starter ships would see individual releases it does not clue us in to the next wave of ships for the Clone Wars factions.
I do not think I want the Clone Wars starters and squadrons without some sort of assurance those expansions will be released. While whatever might be down the road is down the road there is something of a clock on my needing to make a decision regarding this. Is anyone else on the fence about this as well without such an assurance? Is anyone else also considering cancelling their pre-order?

I’m out if they ever require painting. I collect legion and paint it but I hate the painting and have boxes and boxes of unpainted minis staring at me.

Bold of you to assume that Asmodee is looking to sell FFG and keep AMG, and not the other way around.

I think your anger and frustration should be directed at assmodee, not atomic games but to each their own. Have a good day and I hope those that are into clone wars get all their expansions without a hitch.

I think you're mixing up wishing AMG well with enthusiasm for this move. Those are two very different things. And perhaps I'm not being clear. I hope AMG does well with the game, and I have no personal animosity toward them. They are at the whims of Asmodee as much as FFG. I hope they do well with our game simply because I want our game to continue on and even expand.
As for enthusiasm for this move? Absolutely positively not. I hate this move. It has caused friends to lose jobs, disrupts the game at a critical juncture of its viability, and further dismantles a great studio Asmodee seems intent on wrecking.

Their development of Armada and hope that the game continues on well.

mazz0 reacted to Frimmel in Let's give AMG a cheer up!
Their resume is not extensive enough to be more than fear inducing particularly given the type of game on the resume and given that many of these Atomic guys seem to have designed a game I did not care for on my exposure to it. Well wishes is simply a new hope if you will. He who lives on hope has a slender diet. I have a substantial contribution to my diet tied up in a pre-order based on the idea that I would be fed more in Q1 2021. The present contribution is not palatable without assurances the additional feed will be provided. Also given the nature of this Crisis Protocol game I am quite unsure what it is I will be wishing them well at.
The reports around employee dismissal suggest having kept the minions who might be necessary for fulfillment of getting the final products in these lines to market while dismissing those who are chiefly responsible for their creation. I have little reason to suspect that any of these three games will continue to look like what we are accustomed to if they in fact continue to exist.
This news certainly explains why there was no firm word on whether the Clone Wars Armada Starter ships would see individual release. By my reckoning there are four X-wing products, four Legion products, six armada products with another four claimed but not having been shown in a typical announcement article in the pipeline far enough that we should expect their release. These products may mark the end of these product lines.
What exactly might I be wishing this studio well at?

mazz0 reacted to Truthiness in Let's give AMG a cheer up!
Saying "hi, we wish you well" is not an accolade. It's a well wish for a game we supposedly all love.

No, it's a polite way of showing, that there exists a community. I want them to know that before they decide how much energy they put in.

Hello there! Maybe Star Wars: Armada will benefit if the game will be attended by a studio only developping miniatures games.
Anyhow, let's go to the Facebook page of AMG and show them, that we are an active, vivid community that loves the game and wants them to make it a success! 😀👍

Handing out accolades is premature.
Let them prove they know what they are doing and care for the game.

mazz0 reacted to Khobai in Imperials feel darn near indestructable.
if the imperial player has a lot of guns in range of her you can just walk her into melee with vader and she cant be shot unless vader wastes his whole turn disengaging.
she can melee tarpit him too. she doesnt have to use electrograppling line.
thats whats great about sabine she shuts down vader in multiple ways. the way you shut him down varies depending on the situation.
and I dont know why you think saber throw would even hurt her. she has impervious with a 2/3rd save. probably has a shield and a dodge token. if shes in cover you wont even hurt her with saber throw unless you get some crazy 1 in 500 roll with triple crits. shes not worried about saber throw.
suppressions not a big deal for her either with symbol of the rebellion. she can reset her suppression to zero whenever she needs to.
also were talking about a skirmish sized game not a standard sized game. the way you play sabine in a standard game is completely different from a skirmish game. you can afford to be more aggressive with sabine in skirmish compared to standard.
-
mazz0 reacted to Khobai in Imperials feel darn near indestructable.
sabine isnt action starved she gets the same 2 actions that everyone else gets. she doesnt need tokens either. 5 wounds with a 2/3 save and shield 1 makes her one of the most survivable units in the game even without a dodge token. the dodge token is nice to have but hardly required for her to stay alive.
and how am I using the upgrade incorrectly?
sabine can take a recover action as her first action then use her electrograppling line as her second action. she can keep vader locked down indefinitely. she also keeps getting her shield back. and if leia is putting a dodge token on her she gets a dodge and nimble too.
electrograppling line is definitely not bad for 5 points. its very inexpensive for guaranteed on demand suppression. the immobilization is a huge bonus.

Cover cancels hits, the only way to add defense dice (beyond how many hits you have) is Danger Sense or Impervious.
