Could also just be how Nyarlathotep is fought. The RPG campaign included a number of seemingly unconnected cults that all worshipped Avatars of Narly.
This:
Shows the back of an adventure card with the Sand Bat on it, one of those cults.
Could be that Nyarlathotep is not fought by solving mysteries, like other Old Ones, but with adventures. Or that his mysteries are adventures. Though Ruins seem to be involved as well. (I had initially assumed the new ruins were for the Antediluvium, the other Old one, but this mentions them with Nyarlathotep too.)

I like the name... It's not the best name but it sure is better than NarDS.

Keithh reacted to Rakaydos in I figured out the genesys architypes.
When I read that there were only 4 "architypes" replacing every species in Edge, Age and Destiny, I was confused. Were they going to pull a d20 modern and make it stat based? but then why wasnt it 6 architypes instead of 4?
It just occured to me that all those star wars races fall into just a handfull of categories. Arguably 4, if you squint a little.
Well Rounder- 110 xp, 2 in all stats, extra non class skills. In Edge, this is Human.
The Specialist: 175 XP, 1 in all stats, extra class skills. In Edge, this is Droids.
The Talented: 3 in 1 stat, 1 in another, 95 XP. Every species in the unofficial species compendium, and the majority of official races, too.
The Outlier: +1 to a stat, twice, can be the same stat. -1 to a stat, twice, cannot be the same stat. 80 XP. This category covers both the 3/3/1/1 races and the occasional 4/1/1 race like Drall.
There might be other customization options, a free talent your architype can buy at creation, but I feel this is probably the heart of Genesys's "4 architypes" system.

Keithh reacted to Madjack0707 in Similar to the LotR LCG?
Hey guys,
I am brand new to the FFG community and hope you can help me. The only other FFG game I have is Imperial Assault. I have a difficult time getting games going so Ive been seriously considering picking up one of the LCG's to play solo. Im a huge LOTR fan; the LCG has been out for many years so I was worried it might be too late to get into. I was just about to pull the trigger when I saw the announcement for Arkham Horror LCG, which looks awesome! Do you guys think I should wait for this rather than getting into LOTR? I am a student and father so Im kind of on a budget, otherwise I would get both for sure! Help!

Keithh reacted to Julia in Four scenarios, Two in Innsmouth...
Chris scores a good point here. Give time to the developers to expand properly the game. Now that the game's structure is actually working, it's just a matter of time to see a lot more maps and adventures coming.
As for the number of scenarios included: we have 4 scenarios, built with lots of details and possible different interactions and alternate maps and different seeding of items to grant replayability to the game. And as said one scenario lasts 6 hours (but it's actually impossible to complete in 6 hours on your first playthrough), which means you'll probably play it over 2 or 3 different sessions. This should keep you busy for quite a lot of time, considering you can play the same adventures even with other investigators and so on. Replayability of these 4 scenarios is rather huge (for me it's bigger than the replayability of a game like EH where in the core set you had just 4 AOs with an under the par number of cards, for example)

Well $5 of that $20 is pure inflation (and it's $20, not $20-$30 - MSRP of 1E was always $80, here's someone moaning about it back then: https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/565552/mansions-madness-80-and-not-coffin-sized-box )
On top of that - price of plastic has gone up loads in the past five years. And 2E has the exact same numbers of plastic bits as 1E. I appreciate you don't like paying more, but the problem, frankly, is that FFG are nice and when they reprint stuff, they don't up the SRP to account for increasing materials cost. If they did, we'd probably have seen 1E sneak up to $100 over the past five years anyway. The downside of this is when they release a new game, they price it based on the current market conditions, and it's always a big leap from the previous edition for slightly less stuff. Descent 2E was a rip-off compared to what you got in 1E too.
Inflation happens. Materials costs go up. You're always going to get less for the same amount of money every year.
Try to understand the option here wasn't a $80 box with loads of stuff in and no app, or a $100 box with less stuff and an app. It was $100 with less stuff and an app, or a $65 box with loads of stuff but no minis.

Keithh got a reaction from 433 in Finally! Some MoM news!
I'm not sure what you're referring to re using the app with the first edition. The conversion kit seems to be included with the second edition and will let you use tiles, investigators and monsters with the second edition.

Keithh reacted to Vardaine in Dead. Isn't it?
I wholeheartedly agree with kris. I absolutely love playing the keeper. Played the game a couple of times as an investigator and it's not half the fun as playing the keeper.
But then again, I also liked the seeding of cards in specific places and I hate it the way they did in in CotW. Placing everything random everywhere makes less sense to me.

Could not disagree more with the above. I have never played Mom as a player character and have always been the 'keeper'.
Long story short: I really, really enjoy setting the game up, learning the objectives, knowing where all the clues are and thinking up strategies to have my player team have a good time. This does include helping them out a bit here and there (without them noticing it, preferably) because the game does seem to favour the keeper a bit in certain scenarios but to me this game is all about atmosphere and having a great evening. Not about winning.

Keithh reacted to Ringskipper in Conversion Kit Questions
I'm pretty sure you have to use the 2nd edition if you want to use the App (the 1st edition is not compatible with it). And the 2nd edition is NOT playable without the App. The Conversion Kit seems to just add investigators and monsters from the first edition to the second (similar to how Descent did it a few years ago).

Keithh reacted to bigObob in Does anyone know an estimated release date for Shadows of Nerekhall?
I didn't see this when I made my last comment.
"Cheaper is always better for the consumer" Always? FFG could make a way cheaper version of Descent by not play-testing the game, using cardboard cutouts instead of plastic, not hiring artists to conceptualize everything, not having writers to make up the story, and not having a developer to come up with the overall ideas and game mechanics. Imagine that game. Sounds like a POS. I challenge you to go to the store and buy the cheapest game you can find. Play that and see how much fun you have. It will probably be some dice or a deck of cards, some fun can be had with those I guess.
Cheaper is not always the best, cheaper is often not better. Your pencil analogy could go further, but lets get real. Let's say you can buy 4 pencils for a buck or one pencil for a buck. The more expensive pencil was made to work and last. The other pencils where made to be cheap. I have experience with pencils, I work in an elementary school. The cheap pencils often are just plain garbage. When you sharpen them the lead isn't in the middle, so you can't even use them. So for $1 you can buy a bunch of garbage, or something that actually works... which is better for the consumer?

Keithh reacted to Steve-O in A few Quck Questions About Nekerhall Monsters
I think it's a mistake to judge something as OP before you've had a chance to actually use them. I find that a lot of times, abilities and combos that sound OP on paper aren't really that insurmountable in practice.
