Veruca got a reaction from alemander in Trying to compile a list of usable locations in the Askellon Sector (an atlas of sorts, if you will).
So, in preparation of running my first game of Dark Heresy soontm , I'm trying to get a better understanding of the currently known worlds and locations that are situated in the Askellon Sector. For this reason, I've begun compiling a list. I want to present this list to my players during Session 0, so we know what locations are available during character creation.
I was wondering if some of you kind folk could run through the list and see if there's anything I could add, correct, or otherwise adjust.
This is what I got so far:
(As a note, CRB means Core Rulebook, EWI/EWO/EBY are Enemies Within/Without/Beyond, FG is Forgotten Gods and SoH is Seeds of Heresy.)
Asphodel Depths Sub-Sector
Core Theta (Forge World)
Havarth (Hive World)

Triumph of Juno (Sword-class Frigate) [EWO-35] Patrols in the Stygies Cluster Sub-Sector.
Note that some of these worlds are designated as Factory World, Civilised World, etc. ... This means that they don't have a designation that's currently listed as one of the available Home Worlds. (My guess is that some of these could be in new expansions, but I fear that FFG is somehow done with DH2e.... please prove me wrong, FFG!) If anyone with good knowledge of the 40k universe (which I unfortunately lack at the moment) could fill me in what Home World designation we could give these worlds instead (so my players could pick them if they so wanted), that would be a great help. For example, I assume that Ferrom (a Factory World) could be designated as a Forge World?
I've been looking through the 40k wiki, but it's not all that updated with Askellon Sector worlds.
Also, if anyone knows of other people having attempted to put together some sort of similar list like this, please let me know.
Thanks in advance!
Edit 1: Included Gnshal Oblitia and Vaxi in the Rubicon Sub-Sector, thanks to a helpful soul on reddit.
Edit 2: Found out there's a world named Orsca, but not much else is known about is for now.
Edit 3: Found out there's a world named Hannover, but not much else is known about is for now. Also added the Rosenkreuz Cluster, as suggested by eltom13.

Veruca got a reaction from Robin Graves in Expensive - what does that mean?
I have to agree with this topic. I understand that people might not like the blind buy. I understand that people think you're going to spend a fortune trying to collect everything. But if I'm not mistaken, if you want to collect everything from X-Wing... you're down a little fortune as well.
"But you don't have to buy the ships you don't like." I can hear some people say. Yes, that is true. The thing is, you also don't have the booster packs if you don't like them. Just stick to the starter packs. How many people buy just a single core set of any LCG out there, and just play with that without ever buying anything expansions for it? This is the same thing. You don't NEED anything from the booster packs to enjoy the game.
Besides, the only cash grab that usuablly occurs with games like this, is the one the players themselves start. Instead of trading one card for another, they'll start looking at how rare it is and how much more it would cost compared to other cards. That's when the cash grab happens.
I think this is just a matter of restraint. If I were to start playing this game, I'd probably just add like a booster or two whenever I would order something from my FLGS. I won't be dropping hundreds right off the bat.
Now with that being said, it would have been nice to actually be able to pick the characters that you wanted to play when purchasing a pack. I can just imagine wanting a Darth Maul, but opening a Jar Jar Binks...

Veruca reacted to Tim Huckelbery in Numbers of a Spectical Nature
Hellos and Huzzahs to my fellow tellers of entirely factual tales!
The Baron has expressed his desire for his humble servant to relay information concerning the optical nature of his book. Oh, apologies, he meant the spectical nature. Drat, no, he means the specifications for the book, of which there are contained within many of his adventures across the globe, under and above the globe, and into the strato-spherical realms above.
Thusly:
This new Third edition is One Hundred and Forty Four pages in length, an expansion so vast as to be incomprehensible to any but the greatest of mathemagicians, and barely enough to contain all of the New Content.
It is also of Full Colour, with the renowned Omar Rayyan providing glorious illustrations unseen by mortal eyes until now throughout the book. Such is the stunning nature of the artwork that it pushed aside all others, and thus the entire book is comprised of art from this wonderful personage. Ready hand-kerchiefs and tissues, ladies and gentlemen, for surely you will weep upon seeing the Baron's adventures brought to life within these pages.
Additionally, the Fine People who give both Imaginary Power and Aeronautical Lift to Games have assured me that there will be Miniaturized Aetheric-Electrical Representations of the Baron's image suitable for use in Forums with Series of Tubes to indicate the Belief in the Baron's Extraordinary Tales, and Willingness to attempt to craft tales of equally fantastical (though, of course, utterly factual) nature.
Mendace Veritas!
— The Honourable Captain T. L. Huckelbery (ret)

Veruca got a reaction from Supertoe in Expansion stalker
I wouldn't say I'm the biggest Star Wars fan out there, but I am buying every SW RPG product out there, as well as the SW LCG packs. That being said, though, I do agree that it feels like FFG is neglecting the non-SW crowd that's around here. When I first got to play Diskwars, I made a deal with my friends that this was going to be THE game we would all invest in. I got 2 Core Sets and 2 of both expansions. We've been waiting for a really REALLY long time now to flesh out the Skaven, Dark & Wood Elves and the Lizardmen... and now it feels like the game we wanted to go all in for, died before it even got started. A shame, really.
I bet that, if they ever did a Star Wars Diskwars game, there would be a lot more expansions for it.

Veruca got a reaction from RLogue177 in How did you start your Campaign??
We played our first session about 3 weeks ago. I had told my players beforehand that their characters were all working for a Bothan smuggler, who in turn does jobs for Reom on a regular basis (since I’m planning to include BtR in my campaign, I decided to incorporate IsoTech from the get go).
My first session was meant to be a simple introductory game before I really kick things off, so I came up with how Roson (he’s one of the NPCs from Scrapheap Point in BtR) had been doing some undercover espionage work at Sienar Design System’s Advanced Projects Laboratory on the planet Lianna (which is about 36 hours away from The Wheel with a Class 2 hyperdrive). Unfortunately for him, he was found out stealing tech designs and was captured by Sienar Security. However, he did manage to send one final message to Reom, asking for immediate extraction.
And this is where the players came in. Reom tasked them with going to Lianna and breaking out his man on the inside. I started the session with them surveying the Sienar building during a rainy night, planning on how they would get inside the building to free Roson. The mission was a success: they managed to break Roson free before Sienar Security was able to learn who Roson was working for. We ended the session with the crew and Roson leaving the planet, and they’re now headed back to The Wheel.
Now we're just waiting until we can all get together again to play the 2nd session.

I can see how veterans can view this as a wasted expansion, but as someone who's thinking about starting with this game, I'm actually pretty excited about this box. With The Force Awakens Core Set, I feel it's given new players (such as myself) the perfect opportunity to join the fray. I'm actually thinking about just sticking with the TFA products, and now it has the Millenium Falcon AND Poe's X-Wing? I think that's a great deal.
So yeah, for new players this is anything but a wasted expansion... but I can understand the majority of current players being a little disappointed. But hey, good thing you're not required to buy this expansion to enjoy the game, right.
(Think of it as money saved for the next expansion.)

Veruca got a reaction from Colin1012 in New player question
Ah, the endless reroll... I've fallen into that trap a few times myself now.
"Roll to see if you can break open the closet door with that crowbar." *fail*
"Err, roll again." *another fail*
"Ah crap, err... roll again?" *more fails*
"You know what, you just break it open."
So yeah, don't sweat it. Only by failure, do we truly learn. (Look at me, being all philosophically and stuff. )
As for the splitting up downtime, that's another thing you'll get a better hang off the more times you do it. If it's any comfort, it's not all your 'fault' that people might have to wait a bit longer before it's their turn again. After all, they're the ones who decided to split up, right? Might just be that, from now on, they're more prone to staying together... which in turn makes it easier on you. (And if they're still not happy with it, let them GM for a bit and experience how it's not that easy for a beginning GM.)
It truly depends on the kind of players you have at your table. There's the ones that are entertained by what's happening even if it's not their turn, and then there's the ones that lose focus after half a minute of doing nothing. The latter group might be an issue you have to talk about. I've had a few players that started talking to each other when it wasn't their turn, which lead them to not keeping up with what was happening and asking me several times to repeat what was going on. I found it both annoying and disrespectful to the other players. So I've decided to not repeat anything again. If they lose track of what is happening, then it's their own fault (and might even encourage them keep their mind on the game).
It's been a while since I played the beginners box, so I'm not sure how the criticals work there as they are different from the core book. But you did good with the stun grenade and knocking him unconscious. That's what one of my BB groups did as well.
Another thing to remember when playing: if you're not sure about the rules, don't spend too long looking them up. You're better off just winging it. And even if you make a mistake, don't let your players know... that way you let them keep the idea that you know exactly what you're doing.
And as always, when in doubt, don't be afraid to ask your players how they think you should handle a certain situation. Sure, you are there to guide the game... but that doesn't mean that you should do all the work.
Keep up the good work, you'll get better at it the more you do it!

Veruca got a reaction from Sarone in Beyond the Rim, thoughts (Obvious spoilers)
We've played 10 sessions now, and the players have just discovered The Retreat. I'm really getting my money's worth out of this book.
We're coming up on a part where I'm planning to integrate one of my players' background. My idea is to make it that the survivors found a new type of rock/gem/stone/precious metal a few years after they crashed, and that can only be found on Cholganna. Inside the rock is some sort of liquid that Cratala managed to alter and use in her cybernetics, and to great effect.
Now one of my players is rocking a crude cybernetic arm, and I'm positive he's going to ask Cratala to upgrade it. This is where I'm going to send them on a side mission (if all goes according to plan, that is). Cratala has run out of the stones, safe for maybe one or two, which is not enough to use on a single cybernetic. The cache they'd found years ago has been depleted for some time now. One of my other players (Big Game Hunter) has been on Cholganna about 5 years before, hired by a small mining company that was digging for the same stone, but ran into some Nexu trouble (so they hired him to deal with that problem). So at this point, I'll remind my BGH that he has seen the stones before, at the mining site of that small company. So with some luck, they might check it out. (If not, meh, I'll let the adventure continue as normal.)
Anyway, the stone has a non-shiny violet color, rough edges and a bright blue liquid in its center... but I'm having trouble coming up with a name for it. That's why I'm coming here, hoping you guys might have a few suggestions.
What do you think the survivors would call this stone? Maybe the BGH knows the rock by a different name?

Veruca got a reaction from Sarone in Beyond the Rim, thoughts (Obvious spoilers)
I haven't played Borderlands 2, so that's a possibility.
That Charoite is giving me an idea though. Maybe there's 'good' and 'bad' stones. The good ones are filled with the precious liquid, while the bad ones are empty/duds. The liquid lights the stones up in the dark... hence the reason they discovered those stones in the first place.
I was thinking about calling the stone something like Liquidum or Liquidium. Sounds like it might be something that the survivors would call it.
