Veruca reacted to Tom Cruise in [3.1 Update!] Dark Heresy (Warhammer 40,000) in Genesys
Appreciate the offer, but if I do end up running a Discord for this I'd probably want to be running it myself (although I'd definitely appoint moderators if the number of members justifies that). I've moderated communities before and I'm reasonably comfortable with it, but I'm also conscious of the fact that smashing together the Genesys and Warhammer 40k fanbases in one place is liable to turn toxic incredibly fast, I can forsee a lot of nasty clashing opinions there. I'll give it some thought!
Currently I'm in the process of setting up a Wordpress page with a comments section enabled, which has nested comments and all that fancy stuff. I'll see how manageable that is.
In terms of Patreon it's something I've considered in the past but there's a few things which make it unappealing to me.
I prefer this conversion to be as freely accessible as possible. It's a niche thing already, paywalling my updates (even if the actual PDFs are public access) could risk shrinking an already small community into non-existence. If I'm taking people's money I'd want to be providing steady, regular updates. As some of you who've been following me for a while might have noticed, I'm pretty bad at that! I don't think it's fair to ask for people's money for my content and then not release something for six months straight. Copyright is potentially a problem. I know a lot of 40k fan projects chug along on Patreon just fine, but I am a little wary that once I turn this from a free fan thing into a profit making enterprise that GW or C7 lawyers might get a bit grumpy with me. I also just don't really need the money, I work full time in a very stable industry that pays reasonably well, so I don't really need to supplement my income (although extra money would certainly be nice to have). Turning this project from a hobby into a side gig could be more stress than it's worth.
Anyway, here's my Wordpress for now, still setting it up so it doesn't have all my content on there yet. I'm going to try and archive this forum thread too before the forums go down, lots of useful feedback in here over the years that I think is worth preserving.

Veruca reacted to Tom Cruise in [3.1 Update!] Dark Heresy (Warhammer 40,000) in Genesys
That's something I've been thinking about this morning. I do post updates to Reddit sporadically, but honestly I really hate Reddit's format and I don't think it really fills the same niche as a forum thread either way.
I've been thinking it might make sense to make a development blog or something where I can post smaller more regular updates, and then dump new editions or expansions to Reddit?
I've also toyed with the idea of making a Discord server for this hack, but I'm wary of that because moderating a Discord community seems like it could turn into a headache incredibly quickly.
Open to suggestions!

@Tom Cruise, with the forums shutting down, will you continue posting this on Reddit? Or is there a different place where we can follow your progress?

Alright, new character sheet is done. It's a five page sheet now, which is fairly hefty but the last page is fairly optional, I just wanted to provide extra space for talents as my current group filled the standard space super fast.

Hey all, just popping in to drop a quick update - the 3.1 release is done. This is largely some minor balance tweaks and error corrections, although the armoury received some tweaks to better align with Imperial Armour's vehicle rules.
Here is the changelog - https://docs.google.com/document/d/1-xhkzTd9_ryrICWuTOa-4PPbB7Nbn8acaTxf8C0Rdsw/edit
And here is the 3.1 PDF - https://bit.ly/3fnrBra (Using bit.ly to track clicks as Drive doesn't have this functionality and I'm curious!)
Work on Chambers Militant continues slowly but steadily. Hopefully I'll have something for you soon!!

I think the solution is pretty simple: change Riku's family name. If a player wants to be a Kakita duelist, make Riku a Doji (or one of the other families). It doesn't really matter which family Riku is from, as long as she's Toshimoko's prized pupil. You could even give the Kakita PC some inside information about Riku, about how she's a natural born duelist and who, because of it, was given the opportunity to study under the famous Kakita Toshimoko despite not being a Kakita. Who knows, maybe the player could use it as a drive for their character: prove to Toshimoko that, no matter how good a Doji is with a sword, a Kakita will always outshine the other Crane families.

Okay - links updated with bookmarked versions now, apologies about that!
Also made some tweaks to the stats for barrier shield items (mainly bringing down the price a bit).

I don't play Overwatch or know barely anything about the lore, but I have to say that this is one beautiful book! I'm a sucker for gorgeous books, and this one makes me want to get to know what Overwatch is all about.

Veruca reacted to Kualan in Overwatch - Revamped
Hello folks!
Back in 2019 I started work on a setting document based on the video game Overwatch, which is developed by Blizzard Entertainment.
For the uninitiated, Overwatch is a game set in a futuristic earth where humanity has emerged victorious from a devastating conflict known as the 'Omnic Crisis' - a fight for survival between mankind and a race of sentient A.I.s called omnics that was ended by the formation of an elite international task force named Overwatch. In the years since, humans and omnics have learned to live side-by-side in harmony (with varying degrees of success) but Overwatch itself fell victim to decades of growing corruption and scandal. Eventually the organization was disbanded, its agents dismissed and any activity done in its name branded illegal. This is where the game (and this setting document) finds our heroes - will they step up to face the rising threats sprouting up across the world, even if it means being branded an illegal vigilante? Of course they will, they're heroes!
The original 2019 document was made in Microsoft Word and, though extensive with lore and NPCs, I never completed the character creation options to my satisfaction. Well now that's changed with this new project - Overwatch Revamped!
I have started the project again completely from scratch, this time using InDesign and fully fleshing out areas like character creation, gear and even setting-specific mechanics like building your hero's own Ultimate Ability (a heavily-expanded version of the Heroic Ability mechanic from the official Terrinoth book). Customization is the main theme of this project, with the aim being to allow players to make a hero with any combination of gear, abilities and powers that would fit in the futuristic advanced-tech world of Overwatch.
Some sample pages:
The project is still currently in beta, with the current release (v0.1) available HERE (Google) or HERE (Dropbox).
Sections completed so far (for a total of 125 pages!):
- Introduction
- Chapter 1: Character Creation (featuring archetypes, species, careers, an Ultimate Ability mechanic heavily expanded from Realms of Terrinoth and more)
- Chapter 2: Skills and Talents (featuring an extensive talent list!)
- Chapter 3: Gear and Equipment (featuring a customization-heavy gear system built upon Secrets of the Crucible, but with additional options and unique setting-specific gear like barrier shields, automated turrets and teleporters)
Sections still to be completed:
- Chapter 4: The World of Overwatch (featuring lore information and factions)
- NPCs and adversaries (including but not limited to all characters from the game)
- Vehicles
I hope to have these remaining sections completed within a couple of weeks.
In the meantime, please feel free to use this thread to share your ideas, offer any feedback (or point out any errors you notice)! I hope some of you get a use out of this.

Veruca reacted to IamGazrok in Terrinoth Talents - New Foundry Release
Terrinoth Talents expands on the 36 careers offered in Trades of Terrinoth by providing a talent pyramid for each career along with new talents derived from the class abilities in Descent.
Over 90 talents are presented in this product! (including talents for stealth characters, warriors, magic and other character concepts).

Also part of a bundle, bundled with Trades of Terrinoth (as the two are designed to be used together).

The character sheet is the incorrect one here. I think I did have Pyromancy keyed to Willpower at one point, probably during the beta testing of the first edition, but I changed that because it made Pyromancy feel like a much more optimal choice than the others.
The character sheet is well overdue for an update, I'll get on that once Chambers Militant is out in the wild.

Likewise! This is a pretty cool supplement to have, especially for people who are familiar with Descent. 🙂

Veruca reacted to IamGazrok in New Foundry Release, "Trades of Terrinoth"
My next Foundry offering is out! Trades of Terrinoth. 32 new career options for Terrinoth. All derived from the classes of Descent (another game set in Terrinoth). A lot of Descent players (like myself) were wondering (when RoT came out)...where is the Battlemage? the Skirmisher? the Crusader, or the Spiritspeaker? Many of these are even mentioned in the book, but never given as career options. Now they are! More than just a collection of skills, each career's role in the party is described, as well as a new, optional special ability based on the starting abilities of each class in Descent, but adapted to fit the Genesys system. A steal at $2. Enjoy! https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/315975/Trades-of-Terrinoth -

First pass at Adepta Sororitas Elite Advances.
The idea is the specific non-militant orders will get expanded on in talents, the Elite Advance is kept generic to cut down on bloat. Thoughts?

I love your work! I am going to create a beginner game (like the star wars ones) for it to introduce Genesys and dark heresy to my group! If you have a character I'd like to honor your work by including it as a pregen or NPC. I will be creating tokens for the beginner game, so you'd get a drawn token out of it.

Hey everyone, here's the work I've done on the Chambers Militant Armoury chapter so far.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Yoq2zch0FxeouRIoeSDWovRkwYZPMioL/view?usp=sharing
What's done:
Rules for acquiring gear as Chambers Militant characters (they don't use typical Thrones or Influence). All ranged weapons for Sororitas, Grey Knights and Deathwatch. All melee weapons for Sororitas, Grey Knights and Deathwatch. All armour and forcefields for Sororitas, Grey Knights and Deathwatch. Armour attachments (I may add a few more of these so the formatting isn't finalised) What's not done:
Ammunition rules, including custom ammo. Grenades and explosives. Weapon attachments. General wargear. Familiars and servitors. Cybernetics. Let me know if anything seems missing or incorrect!
Update: It's all done! Whole armoury chapter should be ready to go, let me know if you notice any glaring omissions.
