No, I'd say something to you that would get me banned from the forum. Now go back under your bridge and let the reasonable people have a discussion. Can't ...breath...too funny..

3 reasons: 1. FFG are an awesome company that really, really know how to market and create excitement about their games. I always check out every update they post about upcoming stuff, even if I don't have that particular game, or even an interest in it. Also: - FFG have a video demonstration of how the game plays on the site AND provide the rules for free. They are confident about the quality of their games and it shows. 2. The game is really well balanced with a meta that is easy to follow. Lots of successful combinations from only 2 factions is a pretty awesome outcome. 3. I am/was utterly, utterly sick of GW's behaviour. I love the 40k/Fantasy settings, but their pricing and approach to 'balance' and the community is just pathetic. Also, being a time poor husband/father, I just don't have the time to put together and paint models in the numbers required. FFG do games in the GW universes better than GQ does! Finally - to be honest, I found the Star Wars setting initially something off putting. Probably due to the odour created from the prequel movies, it just didn't seem appealing to me. But getting into the game has reawakened my love of the universe, so well done!

Error. Ignore this.

lol 0 defense on the Imperial monster...?

Lol I feel a little dirty just considering buying one.

I can appreciate the advantages of this change - but that's a LOT of Falcons to buy lol.

A list I’m thinking of running in a local event: 3 x Black Squadron Pilots with VI Dark Curse Mauler Mithel with Draw Their Fire Howlrunner with Hull Upgrade. So PS scores are all 6 and above, with some protection on Howl. How do people find High PS 6 TIE swarms, especially when compared with low PS 7 TIE variants? (As background, I find with low PS swarms I end up losing a ship (or even two) before getting to shoot. Thought a high PS 6 TIE list might be potentially as effective). Thoughts?

I use this formation quite a bit. Grab one of the longer movement templates and use that as a guide. First, have the gap between the two 'columns' of fighters that make up the block of four be the width of the movement template apart (not the range ruler as shown here). Then, when placing the guys on the side down, use the width of the movement template again for spacing, making sure the angle is correct (i.e the relevant front and back corners of the flanker should line up so that they are straight with the front side of the fighter they are next to. This approach will ensure that a) the initial 5 forward 3 bank combo works perfectly and b) subsequent banks/turns don't lead to self inflicted bumping.

*Gives him a pat on the shoulder* Been there buddy. Also been 4-0, so you know, it's all good. I'll see you tomorrow.

Last few hours before today's event and I can't decide if 4 PS 6 squints with PTL are better than 3 PS 7, 8 and 9 ones. In the latter case, the build would be: Fel with PTL, TC and Stealth Jax with PTL and Shield Cowall with TC and Stealth Jax dives in and denies actions, the other two snipe. If anyone's still reading the forums rather than actually playing, I appreciate any thoughts...

If you really want to do some research before buying anything extra, you could go and get the Vassal version of X-Wing (Vassal is a boardgame/wargame emulator - there are links on this forum somewhere or just google it) and have a play around with all the ships. Do that as well as plus play around with an army builder and see what sort of squads appeal to you. Ideally, before you buy anything else, try and determine what type of ships you think you'd like to fly - what's your play style? Large heavy hitters? Swarms? Sleek hard to hit glass cannon types? It's all part of the fun.

We do get that question a lot, but it's all good (and I remember asking it myself...). Common answers to your question are: - Another starter set! (that's what I did - good for extra minis dice etc), then; - Either the TIE or X-Wing expansion pack depending on your preference (or both!)

F**ing cancer. Had it myself. Kicked it to the curb, but the chemo was horrid. Stay strong and remember what's important in life (hint: the answer is stuff like X-Wing)

To all you statisticians out there - a little guidance please! Leaving aside the offensive value of focus, when is it better to take an evade action over a focus action? Under what circumstance(s) is one more likely to protect you than the other? ....?

blocking seems like a really cheap way to play to me

Sorry WW. I promise I'm done. :-) -

I promised myself I wouldn't let comments like these get to me anymore. I even apologised to FFG for my part in that infamous thread. But comments like these - when people seem to intentionally confuse 'bad sportsmanship' with 'not playing the game my way' really, really get under my skin. But I'll be good and just point you towards FFG's own words on the matter: “First, we made full wins significantly easier to achieve. Under the new rules, a player only needs to destroy at least 12 squad points (the lowest squad point cost of a single ship) more than his or her opponent, which means players no longer have to build their lists with total annihilation in mind and can opt for a slightly more tactical, defensive game if they wish.” Which can be found here: http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_news.asp?eidn=4750 You want to destroy all of my ships? Cool, go for it. Give it your best shot. But maybe that's not what I want to do. Maybe I just want to hobble you until all my friends show up. -
Dear FFG, Would it be possible to get a dedicated squad list sub-forum? I don't know about everyone else here, but I really like seeing the different builds that people come up with but understand that it can crowd out the other discussions going on in the general forum - and it would be really good to have them all in one place. Pretty please?

What I though Games Workshop was the best gaming company. Games Workshop is like that ex-girlfriend you used to really care about but had to break up with because she was demanding, irrational, unbalanced and slightly crazy. You still care for her and wish that things get better - but until then you know that for your own health you need to stay away. (and on that note apparently they have some gold plated, diamond encrusted, written with the blood of angels release this weekend or something? Or at least that's what I'm assuming, given the prices I've been seeing). On the other hand, FFG is like the girl you decide is the one you're going to marry.

I won the immdar event! ..and didnt even have to go

13? So she's old enough to fly her own squad, then? Good luck, man. -
New version for the x-wing vassal module (wave iv is in)
Imagined Realms replied to Mu0n729's topic in X-Wing
Actually I lie. A couple of quick questions: 1. Does the new version include the cloak option on the actual model (i.e not the actual token, but the indicator that appears at the base's side? 2. I don't suppose there's anyway to autosnap a barrel roll template to a model? That's probably one of the most fiddly bits. -

Vassal X-Wing is utterly brilliant. That is all. -
So in the latest edition of ‘what the hell list should I play’, I’ve been thinking about running a mini swarm of TIEs with a flanking Fel. Something like this: Fel + PTL + TC + Stealth Device. Howl + Swarm Academy Mauler Dark Curse (or perhaps Backstabber instead). Have you found these types of mini swarm lists to be competitive?

Thanks for all the feedback so far... At this point, my thoughts tend towards Fett and Scarlet, both with PTL, Recon and E/U (or swap the E/U for a missile type). The former would offer what seems to me a really consistent list: high PS, either high offense or defense as required with PTL (mixing up TL, double focus and/or evade), manouverability with E/U and PTL to keep everyone in arc and a good chance at the initiative with a total cost of 99. Using missiles would allow more alpha strike potential (especially with the assault varieties) at the expense of manouverability, a reliance on front arc and the risk of the miss. Gah, sometimes the list building aspect of X-Wing does my head in. **** YOU FFG. **** YOU AND YOUR WELL BALANCED GAME WITH ITS EQUALLY INTERESTING OPTIONS!
