  1. Having just received my first batch of Wave 3 ships (Early Stock from Team Covenant) I have doodled up this squad and would appreciate input (good and bad): Major Rhymer Unique When attacking with a secondary weapon, you may increase or decrease the weapon range by 1 to a limit of Range 1-3. Advanced Proton Torpedoes, Assault Missiles, Marksmanship 29 points Captain Jonus Unique When another friendly ship at Range 1 attacks with a secondary weapon, it may reroll up to 2 attack dice. Advanced Proton Torpedoes, Deadeye 31 points Colonel Jendon Unique At the start of the Combat Phase, you may assign 1 of your blue target lock tokens to a friendly ship at Range 1 if it does not have a blue target lock token. Fire-Control System After you perform an attack, you may acquire a target lock on the defender. ST-321 When acquiring a target lock, you may lock onto any target in the play area. As you can see there's a lot of synergies going on. Thought??
  2. Buhallin, this is one of the situations where I agree with you "by the letter" of the rules, but at the same time I think (like you stated in the previous post) that it seems like it is more of a case of neglect. It's sort of funny that it have never popped up before now, certainly not anything that have come up as an issue during the many games that we've played in our group, so intuitively people in the group (and I) must always have considered it "out of bounds"
  3. If I were the TO in a tourney I wouldn't allow it
  4. I know someone might agree with you, but I would that it would do since normally we state that when maneuvering it is only the ships starting and final position that matters when determining if a ship is destreoyed/fleeing from the play area. And even though one could argue that it is after "finishing an action" it IS also "before perfoming the maneuver" so In my book you would have crashed that ship, but others might (probably) disagree with me.
  5. If you overlap another ship you lose your action but you may attack in the Combat Phase, just not the ship that you are in base contact with
  6. This isn't correct. The requirement to hit is not the same as a requirement to cause damage. Draw Their Fire, for instance, could pull a lone critical hit result away from the target so that it does not suffer any damage, but it is still considered hit, and the splash will still go off. Buhallin is correct on this one, but you actually had it right in the sentense just before this one. My Darth Vader have on several occasion sacrificed more than 1 Hit to one of his bystanding renegade TIE's It keeps them in check
  7. Sorry, I was only originally responding to Wookies comment specifically about deadeye and vader... When talking about the lock on to just about everything - is that since Vader activates on PS.9, everyone from ps1 - 8 will have activated and moved, given the number of enemy ships on PS9 - There will likely be very few activations remaining by the time Vader moves - so nearly the entire board will be in place with the exceptions of Han and Wedge and PS10 and up...) You did actually manage to get me to re-read something I'd been doing wrong this whole time! Our group has been revealing all dials simultaneously for each PS level, not just individual activation. (So I had mistakenly thought that Vader would have dial knowledge for any other PS9 Ship) Cool, nice that we got that cleared up, and even more brilliant that you took some useful or even vital information with you from the debate, that's what we all aim for, right?? May the dices be with you
  8. I'm not seeing why you'd run deadeye here though - vader is almost always moving last, so in his activation he can take Target lock on just about anything - and he's also got a view of the other PS.9 pilot dials, so he can target lock someone who will move into his firing arc. It's really only a ps8 or 9 pilot with Veteran Instincts who will be an unknown to Vader. Couple this with the idea that the Tie Adv has one missile slot, meaning that when you stick Deadeye on Vader - you're only gonna get the one use out of it - but since you can focus and target lock with Vader's Dual actions and by choosing homing missiles, you will be able to use both TL and Focus to affect the attack - only very rarely actually needing to use focus with deadeye to shoot at a different target. Deadeye becomes more useful on vader if you can A stack focus, or B would prefer to fire with the focus and reroll with a target lock on a concussion or assault missile I think Deadeye increases in value as your PS drops. No one is saying that it's the best option; the question being asked and answered is primarily regarding if and how you must do it, not why. I agree with you that it isn't the optimal pairing. I must be misunderstanding what you mean about his ability to lock on to just about everything and how it is that he can see the other dials/moves and foresee who will move into his arc. My point was that if you have Deadeye on any pilot (including Vader) then your missiles do have a different detering potential especially against higher PS or an opponent that havent got Initiative, so basically I also agree on your point that Deadeye increases in value as your PS drops. A better match could be Marksmanship IMO. I have, on a couple of times, way before Wave 2, run Maarek Stele with Cluster Missiles and Marksmanship. That can be loads of fun :-)
  9. This looks correct to me. Why bother with deadeye if you are using homing missiles?? One argument would be that with Deadeye you are showing/indicating to your opponent which ship you wish to fire upon until you actually declare the target. A TL is usually a pretty good telltale sign of that. Another point could be, if your opponent have the initiative, that you could still launch the HM on a PS9 or higher ship that moved into your arc and range after your activation phase ended
  10. Mr. Wookie you dont need to discard your target lock when firing homing missiles... so, deadeyes not so useful w homers CW is right on the spot with his post. Please notice that he states that a Deadeye DV may use TL and Focus to BOOST (modify) the Homing Missile roll, so he isn't saying that the Focus is used to launch Homing Missiles
  11. Yeah, I think it has been "broken" since an update sometime around Monday (where this thread was started) Saving works fine by me. Could it some sort of cache/cookie issue (this is coming froming a complete IT ignoramus)
  12. Darn, that's tough, and eventhough this isn't a measuring contest (!) I will share my blunders: Also managed to fly a fully loaded and unharmed DV off the board, but that experience taught me that no matter how many times you turn your TIE-Advanced dial a ↰1 or 1↱ will not magically appear. My greatest/worst mistake however was just shortly after Wave 2 where I (cleverly I thought) had set my Falcon with engine upgrade up near one side edge. I was facing 2 BH's, both with Ion Canons. For my opening move I blasted forward followed by a Boost ⇖1 in order to be able to shoot at one of them . I did hit them, but when they fired back they both ionized the Falcon, so in Round 2 it flew over the edge. Basically game over
  13. As usual he made that very complicated. Yes, if Vader has deadeye, he can spend a focus to fire a missile. If he target locks with his other action, he can spend that to reroll any misses. If he has *homing* missiles, he only has to HAVE a focus (assuming Deadeye) to fire the missile, and could spend the focus to modify the attack roll - along with a TL, if he locked on with his other action. CW: Apologies for not dumbing it down for you. For AdvocateX: I am sure there are someone that can tell you the specific odds for what would be the statistically smartest order: TL/Focus or Focus TL both either order is fine and it will be a matter of dice "luck" which one pays out for you on that day in space.
  14. You must have missed the period of a couple of days where everybody else experienced it was "down"
  15. I dare put in a thought on this issue since it bears similarities to so many of the other discussions in here: Many of the upgrades and Pilot Abilities (PA)that you choose to include will have a "power" to neutralize an upgrade or PA in your opponents squad build. This is actually why you might want that upgrade/PA to begin with. Sometimes it is straightforward for instance it makes pretty good sense putting Draw their Fire on a Chewbacca YT-1300 or alternatively put Determination on Lando, both choices can/will make it sucky for your opponent rolling [Crit]'s on you. Having said that I will, in order to try to prevent a storm of comments on my post, say that there are, at least to many of us, sometimes some timing/trigger issues that can make it confusing. If playing casually one must decide "on the fly" if one finds the Rules and/or FAQ unclear, in competition one has the TO as aid in the process. But beware, you might be accused of "wishfull thinking" when you venture into this Forum seeking clarification through posting.
  16. And would have thought that you noticed the quotation marks AND the smiley, both included in the sentence that you refer to. But I will dispense with the counterproductive name calling , okay?
  17. What else would you call something like the Boost/Proximity Mine ruling which you so helpfully quoted above? The rules issue is about as cut and dry as you could get, and their ruling directly contradicts those rules and cards. I'm not sure why such an obvious statement of fact would be amusing, or how you go from a statement that this occurs (which it clearly does) to some broad-based application of my motivation. I am capable to find it amusing because I have enough empathy within me (not just in X.Wing or other games but also IRL) to see when there are situations where there either is or could be a discrepancy between what is written and the underlying (abstract) intended meaning. I know, due to my medical training through med school and subsequent 10 years of working as an MD) that there are personality traits that makes this hard to comprehend and accept. As usual (and previously stated SOOOO many times), i WILL and always has played by the rules as written and any decision made by a TO in competitive games and will continue to do so. I will however also continue to discuss both hee and in our gaming group when there are issues that I or we are unsure of or find strange. And I sincerely hope (actually I'm sure) that you will feel free to do so too. (Disclaimer: I am not diagnosing anyone here, especially not after having been "diagnosed" as a schizophrenic ome way further up in this thread )
  18. For all other missiles than Homing Missiles the following is the answer to your question: Yes, you can decide whether or not you wish spent either the TL or the Focus token, but it still comes down to 2 scenarios: A) You shoot at a ship you have TL on: a) When you declare your target you must also declare if you wish to use Deadeye+Focus to fire it. If so, you roll and then you can choose to reroll by using the TL OR b) You declare that you will use the TL to fire the missile, so you spend the TL and roll, then you may use the Focus token to modify the result B) You shoot at a ship that you haven't Target Locked a) Only one option here: spend the Focus to use Deadeye and then roll. Since the TL is on another ship you can't reroll. I apologize for answering the whole thing a bit backwards
  19. Edit: I read your question wrong and the answer below only counts for Homing Missiles. See my next post for my answer to your actual (general) question Neither, or actually both. Let me run it down: 1) Darth Vader aqcuires the Target Lock and then takes a Focus Action 2) In the combat phase you declare your target (within the arc and range naturally) for the Homing Missiles. When you declare the target you may choose to pick the ship that you have the TL on OR you can use the Deadeye to pick another ship that may have flown into your arc (and in the HM range) Scenario A: Shooting on the Target Locked ship. This scenario has 2 sub scenarios: a) You roll the dices and depending on the results you may choose to reroll the number of dices you wisdh and THEN use the Focus to modify the results from the reroll. b) You roll (for an example a Hit and 3 [Focus]) on the first roll so you choose to modify the result using the Focus token and save the TL for later Scenario B: Using Deadye to shoot at a ship that isn't Target Locked: You roll the dices and depending on the result you could/should modify the result with your Focus token. You can't use the TL since you haven't got the TL on this ship. Hope that clears it up
  20. Once again, quit saying/writing "the way I like". I will certainly own up and stand by that part of my "stand" on this issue could be said to be based on what "I think" though I prefer to say that is based on me interpreting some points in the rules that appear unclear to me since the new ships/pilots/abilities seems to be in a sort of conflict with the current rules and FAQ. I do find it amusing that whenever FFG makes a FAQ ruling that's not the way you think it should work, then they "flatly contradict their own rules" And now I wish to finish this comment by saying that at some point it seems that you finally acknowledge one thing: that we (you and I) obviously see things from two very different points. I quess (hope?) that it is just showing that we are 2 very different persons with a common passion for this game. Can we shake virtual hands on that at least?? Take care
  21. Luckily it is not only "his thought" it is handled in the FAQ too :-) silashand: if you havent already experienced the situation; I can assure you that it is quite a nervewrecking time when you suddenly realise (during a game round) that you might come off the board in the next round. Care should especially be taken when pointing a partially ionized large ship towards the edge when it is close to it, I speak of experience :-)
  22. I am less confident and a bit more humble than you when it comes to this point. Apparently (IMO) it seems like you and some other people have a very high level of confidence in the scope of the current FAQ's ability to address and clarify all issues that might arise in the upcoming Wave 3's upgrade cards, pilots etc. I base my lower level of confidence on the fact that at least one FAQ was needed when Wave 2 came out and got into play, where upon it became obvious that many wordings and situations arising from the new ships and upgrades needed clarification. But that's just me.... At some point it would be BRILLIANT if they (or someone else) would compile it all into a re-edited Expanded Rulebook
  23. Allow me to direct you (both) to page 3, 2nd column of the latest FAQ: Overlapping Q: Can overlapping other ships cause the active ship to flee the battlefield? A: Yes. If any part of the ship’s base in its final position (after moving backward) is outside the play area, then the ship has fled the battlefield. It is clear that it is only the final position that matters, not the template. Hope that resolved that bit
  24. A couple of things: 1) First of all I wasn't the one bringing Wedge into the discussion, I did however follow up on a comment on it. So once again you are assigning things to me that aren't true. 2) It is you saying (again) that it is "wishful thinking" on my part. I have repeatedly said I have no particular plan or desire to play Jan and a CM carrying ship. So you're still wrong on that point (surprise!!) 3) If, as you indirectly are saying now, FFG always got it right first time around, why do they put out any FAQ's at all?? 4) Stop playing "reductio ad absurdum" with me, you can take your emperor & the Rainbow Dash and put it where the sun don't shine Ohh, and BTW; actually found/find it amusing that you were been snide when I quoted from Buhallin's blog until you learned that it was from him. I know he didn't agree with the way the quote was presented, but still it gave a good chuckle here in Denmark I wish you the very best of luck in what I can only imagine to be a bright and promising future where your open mind and bright cheerful demeanor will do wonders for you. Go make me proud!!
