Palpster got a reaction from ScottGilbert25 in Thor is Terrible
I’m 3/3 with Thor solo. First game was the pre-built deck against normal Ultron /w Under Attack. Was the closest game possible ending with 1 health left and 1 threat away from losing.
I then tweaked the deck a bit and played two games against Wrecking Crew (A). Again really, really close games.
He’s rough to play solo, BUT he’s also really interesting to figure out. I’ve had to really stop and think about different lines of play with him and I love that.
So, is he terrible? That depends; if you want a powerful hero deck that damages and thwarts without much brain effort, then yes, he’s horrible. If you want a  hero that can hit like a truck, but has trouble with threat management, making games really interesting puzzles, he’s pretty awesome.
Can’t wait to try him multiplayer

If Hulk's attack of three damage finishes off a stage of a villain, can the next part (2 damage or 1 to each character) be used for the next stage of a villian?
    Thank you.

Well, we just finished up this game, our first against the Green Goblin, and I have to say he's pretty darn fun. Mutagen Formula/Goblin Gimmicks/Standard set vs. Spider-Man and Miss Marvel. We kept him from advancing his first scheme (do to a LOT of thwart work by Kamala -- Sneak By and Shrink is GREAT, and it eats side schemes for breakfast -- and some by Pete), and with some decent hits by her and some absolute avalanches of damage by Pete --back to back Swinging Web Kicks are devastating -- we managed to take him down. His is a fun set, and we were almost always beset by goblin minions of various forms, even having Kamala get hounded by a virtual army for several turns mid-late game. We like to think a mob of them chased her into a dead-end alley only for everyone's friendly neighborhood arachnid to swing in for the rescue. Gobo definitely keeps you preoccupied. Big Hands and Embiggen were a godsend for smacking goblin minions when she did get the chance to go on the offensive.

We've played a fair bit of Pete, so no new comment there other than "Aunt May's Chicken Soup" as we call it is always AMAZING, as are Swinging Web Kick and Webbed Up (which, with Kamala's capacity to avoid and return damage anyway, made her really hard to drop damage on ---though she did get dropped to 4 hp after a moment of intense Goblin pounding and gobbo-goon army attacks).

I will say, it was my first time with Miss Marvel, and she was a blast. Lots of moving parts to her when you get her support structure in place. Tactically bouncing between layers of support/upgrade alter-ego action cards and the associated hero action cards is the real trick to her, but man it's fun. A lot of decking tweaking/cycling tricks to keep those Sneak By and Big Hands and their buff cards in motion.

Final blow belongs to Pete, though Kamala could have done it with some clapback (Nova came in late game for some of that backtalk after a very tenacious Red Dagger was finally taken down), we decided the Spider deserved the coup de grace.

So yeah, Team Teenager FTW! 🏆

Goblin certainly gave us a workout.

That’s not strictly true. Yes, you have to have it out for 5 turns before you’ve drawn as many additional cards as you spent using on it, but the true strength of Avengers Mansion is in having an extra card in addition to your normal hand size. It’s about having a single sub optimal turn to make all of your future turns better. An extra card is especially valuable in this game as it’s essentially giving you an extra option or an extra resource.
In this sense, an Avengers Mansion can add value way before its generated more cards than you spent on it as it lets you achieve more in all futures turns. What you really have to weigh it against us the tempo hit it gives you on the turn you play it, as it effectively means dedicating most of a turn to just playing it, and that isn’t always going to be the right move.
I still tend to play 1 of each at present, but I think it’s definitely true that not every hero really needs it.

I got the game just before social distancing and have only been able to play solo after two multiplayer games. I don’t have Cap or Ms. marvel but they are coming in the mail this week. I was able to grab Thor from a LGS day of release.

I love playing with Thor. He’s a unique challenge in solo mode and I like the puzzle-y nature of those games. At first it seemed like he just couldn’t cut it solo, but once I stopped trying to make him play how I wanted and did what Thor might do in a situation (spend his hammer as a resource and summon it back later for instance), his deck started making more sense and wins were easier to come by, though still a challenge.

I didn’t sense any ignorance of that matter in Deathseed’s posts. He’s just pointing out that “This character doesn’t play the game how I want him to” is a pretty crap take.

You are correct. Surge on its own would only trigger once. Surge when part of a when revealed effect would happen twice. In the case if “Hard to keep down”, the surge is part of the when revealed effect. When revealed the card tries to heal rhino. If it can’t do that it surges. Because of “media coverage” it would try to heal rhino twice, fail twice, then surge twice.

I for one disagree with that being literally the only correct option like I said in a previous post. I’m not wrong (nor is your opinion we should add a card with Spider Woman), we just have differing opinions and that is just fine.

This is a good way to put it.

I have yet to experience Wrecking Crew, but I‘ve seen a lot of people state that most of the villains as a whole are too easy. These are likely the same people who the LotR LCG’s Nightmare encounters are designed for, though, and not necessarily indicative of the majority of the game’s audience.
Thor being underpowered seems to be an issue of people’s expectations. He’s not great as a Solo hero against half of the scenarios because he lacks a bit in the thwarting department overall. But he’s excellent against minion-heavy scenarios and in a group.

In the Dr Strange reveal video, FFG stated their principle when they revealed the Iron Man ally card. These cards have Wild resource as a compensation for not being able to be played as allies in some games. Spider-Woman is already Wild resource so I would not be expecting any offset or replacement card.

I've had quite a bit of success with Leadership and Justice Thor, but I've won with all aspects. I actually won against the Wrecking Crew with Protection Thor. Having said that, I'm only about 30% win rate with him. He takes more work. Other heroes I'm at about 60 to 70% win rate (Captain America, more like 95%). People who complain about the game being too easy, Thor is your man. I usually take about 5 minutes to throw a deck together, Thor may actually need real deck building and testing. I was worried that Thor was going to be boring and OP, but I was wrong. He's different and interesting, you just have to think differently about how you play than any of the other heroes to date.

Highly likely due to corona virus shutting down production in China (and the huge backlog this has created). I can’t say this comes as a surprise to me having received mails from virtually every kickstarter I backed that there will be delays.
Which also makes it likely we won’t be seeing anything new between Hulk and the story box.
It is what it is, I suppose. (Or rather it could be what I made an educated guess about 😉)

The RR for Guard says: While any minions with this keyword are engaged with a player, that player cannot attack villains without this keyword.
Italicized text on cards is a reminder, and doesn't override the rules.  The base rule on Guard stops you from hitting any villains (plural).  It doesn't refer to a singular villain, so the "only the active villain" doesn't apply.

    October 8, Ms Marvel
    November 12, Wrecking Crew
    December 5, Thor
    January 16, Black Widow
    February 4, Dr Strange
    March 3, Hulk
That is 1 new pack reveal every month since the games' release. I'd say that is a highly consistent announcement pace.
