NotBatman reacted to Grand Admiral Buford in A Farewell To Good Friends
Where are we going to find posts about Admiral Nelson and Armada being dead now?

I didn't even realize that it was CG for Luke at first. Not surprising since I had the same experience initially with Tarkin and Leia. I don't know if it's just my complete surrender to suspend my own disbelief or what. Maybe desensitization thanks to all the other CG effects? But it's took a few viewings to see the clues that they were deep fakes on all three cases, after someone mentioned it of course.
I don't get why anyone's bothered by it either. To me SW had not just been a great story, but also a ongoing tech demo and development platform. My inner techie lights up when I see some new graphical art science. For me awesome new CG is a treat. And as the novelty of some older practical effects fade, so does their impact. Like puppets? Fine, but enhance em first please.
Y'all still at the top of the hill while I'm zooming down into the uncanny valley enjoyment like a Jamaican bobsled team!😆🤣

That's exactly why I didn't like it. 0% subtlety. It didn't make sense. All of the major female characters stopped fighting to line up for a glamour shot, when Capt. Marvel can (and did) handle the situation by herself. Just have women be competent and give them screen time to do it, and it will be noticed. No need for flashing arrows, red circles, and a marquee that says "LOOK, LOOK, LOOK!".
However, I did enjoy it in Mando because it didn't call any attention to it. 4 women tearing through a whole capital ship. Thumbs up.

Well, it's the combination that she's been actively on the side of the Coronavirus, plus has been doubling-down on her transphobic garbage.

I mean, I still want Tiya Sircar to get her jetpack, but like, I kinda feel this.
I'm less mad about a Luke cameo (I'm a sucker for him in black with that giant belt and the green saber) than I am about Rey Palpatine, but it was pretty nice for a while to have a show which had very little to do with The Star War.
Season 1 was a kinda slow burn, getting under the helmet of this guy who steps into a father role. One of my favorite moments is when Mando shoots down Toro Celican for threatening Baby Yoda. To me, it kind of symbolized putting this cute little muppet ahead of the bounty hunter fanboys who wanted just a rehash of the old EU and such. That was the moment where I really bought into the show. Sure, the first episodes were solid action, but this felt like the show could be more. Bone broth slurp. The saga of IG-11 and Mando trusting a droid? Cuill saying "I have spoken." Werner Hertzog and Giancarlo Esposito with the right mix of glamor, cruelty, and hubris to make perfect Imperials. This was what made me fall in love with the show, not "oh, he's Boba-Fett-adjacent."
For better or worse, Season 2 feels a lot like Rogue One. Fills in a lot of gaps. Looks great. Tonnes of fan service. Fake digital faces (not terrible yet I'm glad there weren't more of them). And ultimately... maybe not as great at telling a story as it could be. A lot of "oh, it's cool to see that on the screen" stuff, but at the end it feels a bit empty.
I'm going to say...
Chapter 10: The Passenger. It's got everything great about Mando. Peli Motto scamming. Grogu eating things he shouldn't be eating. Madcap droid hijinks. Space Appa Carson Teva and that moment when the X-Wings switch to the second comm channel, open S-Foils, and Mando knows he's deep in the Bantha Fodder.
There's other great moments in other episodes. Tuskan Raider Sign Language. Fish man in in a fisherman sweater. Ceiling hose chowder dispenser. Blue-milk flavor cookies. Boba swinging that Gaffi stick. But as a whole, I'm going 10.

Luke willing to train Grogu, while Ashoka is still worried about "attachments," feels right to me. Luke hasn't spent a lifetime learning the wrong lessons about how someone turns to the Dark Side, and knows how Anakin was saved better than how he fell.

I viewed that more as Mayfield was mad that he had to take part in Operation Cinder. Imperials breaking under the weight of the atrocities they're forced to commit is a classic. Kallus is a great example (David Oyelowo is fantastic, plus all the great quiet scenes in Rebels of alienation and emptiness). Heck, in a lot of ways, that's Vader. It's what Hux should have been in IX, as well as Jannah and the Stormtrooper revolt. Finn inspiring something real and consequential against Kylo would have been excellent. A heck of a lot more interesting than the drivel we did get in PoSRoS.
It was pretty early in the morning when I watched, but I didn't get that from the scene at all.
What stuck with me was him saying the galaxy cheered when Alderaan was wiped out as a blow against "terrorism." It was an unrepentant, unsympathetic piece of utter trash bragging about the greatest war crime to date in Star Wars.
I saw it as showing that most of these folks still in the Empire in ABY9 are still worthy of getting blasted on sight.
Kyle would have been terrible there.
This was the Corridor Scene from Rogue One, but for Luke. Dude as a fully realized Jedi, kicking tail, is part of the bridge taking us from RotJ to TLJ. From a guy who gets winged by a guard at Jabba's palace to someone who can face down the whole First Order with a Laser Sword. You want to take that away from Luke? Really? Kyle who? Like, a few of us onhere know the old EU, but "Big Reveal! Niche video game character from 25 years ago!" is just going to baffle folks. One big thing that The Mandalorian has done is expand SW Fandom, as opposed to contract it. It isn't just looking back at old stories for a few diehards, and that's VERY IMPORTANT. Best to let as much as possible of the old EU remain there. I mean, folks can still go play Dark Forces, or reread the Thrawn novels. No one is breaking into your house to erase them. Telling new stories is just better. I think it looked pretty good, as far as it goes, but... kind of lifeless? There's none of Mark Hamill's charisma. Handing over precious puppet Grogu to a cold-eyed monk... eh, maybe not as heartwarming as it should be. Thank the Maker for R2-D2 to bring some actual soul.

Ahsoka showing up looking for Thrawn is the Nick Fury telling Iron Man about the Avengers Initiative of Star Wars. I don't expect her to take over the show, we might see her again, and the groundwork is being set for an interconnected Star Wars Cinematic Universe.

Well, I'm genuinely SUPER embarrassed that I got my timelines so far out of left field... I'm even well aware of when Mandalorian takes place so... just no explanation for that.

This is easily the most appalling thing written in this thread and it says sooooooo much about the people that go along with this cult.
There is zero point me going into why, because you won't listen. But as brief summary for anyone else who might not be so colossally brainwashed,
a) Even assuming that statement were true, why should children suffer for the actions of their parents? How is that in any way fair or justifiable?
b) It says so much about you that believe HIV only affects those that 'make mistakes', that they must have done something to deserve it. You know that a person could be doing everything 'right' by Christian standards (e.g only having sex within marriage) and still catch HIV from a partner that was cheating, right? You know that accidents happen with medical equipment, with blood transfusions.... that there are hundred other ways it could happen? And that's just the potential mother themselves. See point a for the rest.
c) Also incredibly telling that you only addressed the one you had even a sh***y answer for and completely ignored the other condition that has no means by which you could possibly blame someone else attached to it.
This thread is garbage, by the way. It was supposed to be political news about the election. But such is the absolute state of American politics that some of you can't keep your cult out of it and now we have this.
I've only continued following along so I could point and laugh, but I couldn't let such a vindictive, ignorant comment stand.
The religion of love. What a f***ing joke.

Atheism is about the furtherest you can get from nihilism. Because when I do good in the world it's not out of fear of retribution from a spiritual father figure. It's because I truly believe that empathy and kindness has a value for it's own end. I believe that the human experience has value for everyone, not just myself.

So Amon Goeth, the butcher of Płaszów and baptised catholic, is in heaven, and the jews he murdered in his concentration camp are rotting in ****.
That is a very, very bad system, and I urge you to stop believing in it, and start believing in literally anything else.

NotBatman reacted to Odanan in THE MANDALORIAN
Wow! I don't know what I think about this. While it would be cool to see Din owning the Dark Saber and leading the Mandos, is this really necessary? I like the fact he has no powers and sometimes is not even the deadliest person in the scene.

My suggestion is to stack and overlap so that the art is visible. That should at least save a good amount of table space. Most of the time you can recognize the card by the art, especially now that they're larger.
Would it have been nice for them to stay mini? Yeah. But there's a special kind a hilarity in pre-emptively calling others 'snowflakes' while going on a huge rant about playing cards in a game.

Several things:
A) I agree that the bible is not supposed to be about science, and you are correct that proving evolution doesn't disprove god or religion. My problem is... those ideas came from your team . Atheists and scientists were not the ones claiming that evolution disproves god, Radical christian preachers said that. Same goes for the literal bible vs. metaphorical bible.
B) Regarding "all gods or no god", the point is that pascals wager does not work in a world with more than one religion. Because than you could believe in god and still not go to heaven.
C) How can "One’s understanding of science and one’s understanding of the Bible" be at odds? Both answer completely different questions ("how" and "why").
D) You are free to believe that a life without god has no meaning for you. I would argue that the abrahamitic belief system is much more nihilistic than atheism. Not only is the world just a broken, "early-access"-version of heaven, all the good deeds are not done out of true kindness, but just because people are afraid of going to "the bad place". Existance has no end, so anything you create in life is worthless because heaven is the true paradise regardless of what we do here, so why not kill yourself and go there directly.
I would argue that your reward for a life well lived is ... that life. The fact that there is no "life 2.0", no "life+", no "life, but with extra cheese and onions", is what gives your life any meaning.

If it was made by man it would not even exist. If it was made by man, the first four books would be false and Moses would have taken a very long time to come up with all those names!

I'm in camp "Epicurus definitely disproved a benevolent omnipotent god ca 300 years before Christianity was even founded."
See: problem of evil. Religious apologists have had over 2 millenia unsuccessfully attempting to poke hole in it, to the point where that is its own field of philosophy(theodicies), I call that pretty thoroughly tested.

There should be an age cap as well really. Term limits on every governmental seat as well would fundamentally fix the issues with the US government.

If I'm at my most generous, the best explanation I can offer is that it was supposed to be like the scene in RotJ where the fighters first enter the DSII tunnel. You've got that one TIE who just clips his panel off the side of the tunnel and explodes, while all the Interceptors dodge out the way. It's meant to show that what they're all doing is extremely dangerous, and to highlight the skill that's getting Wedge, Lando et al through. But also to show that the TIEs still following them were good enough to not make that mistake too. It's also immediately followed up by one TIE nailing an X-Wing, so you've got a bit of balance restored - our guys might be good, but they're in trouble because the guys behind them are also good.
So in this case, you have the two (unknown to audience, youngest and least experienced) Scouts crash to show that diving down the cliffside was extremely dangerous, so the guys that managed it must be really good.
But if that's the case, I'd still argue it failed because there's no setup to that and no pay off. While the other Scouts are admittedly shown as being fantastically ballsy (the one getting on top of the transport), they're still largely ineffecutal for the rest of the scene.
Ah well. It's not the end of the world, I still really enjoyed the episode and the chase in particular (even if Mando's ship getting repaired in such a short span of time seemed like a bit of a stretch). I'm just happy to get more live action Scout Troopers tbh. Would love it if we could get a Scout Trooper sniper at some point, too.
