And when you turn over the center tile, it's just blank and sends you back to the edge of the map.

    Three, like most FFG LCGs?.

I think trusting a reviewer is always a gamble. There are a lot of games that got bad or mixed reviews that I really enjoyed (some with house ruling) and other critical acclaimed games that I found boring. Fun is always subjective and the box you deem less fun than another one might actually be the box another one would like the most. If you want to buy it new, you propably should listen to Swordbreaker and think about the core rules and the general feel of the game. If you can wait, you can probably buy it used with at least some knowledge of the components and make a more educated guess.

You argued in the Keyforge thread that it is important for lootboxes=random insert of game=gambling that the cognitive impact on the person is similar. You won't have that here, because you don't have instant gratification and there probably won't be a value attached to your game, which leads to you not being able to win anything by buying this game.

I am buffled that they didn't at least make something like a "desert", "mountain and "jungle" edition.

That's what I think also, the game mechanic, the scenario, the challenge level... all those points are critical to having a good game. Then surviving on an island or stuck on a desert, I understand that one of the two triggers more your imagination than the other but I think both fits the survival genre.

I get the feeling that you argue in bad faith. The claim isn't obviously wrong, because the common definition would apply to CCGs (and Keyforge), while the legal definition wouldn't (similar to lootboxes, which was his point). He also made the point that he likes games where he doesn't have to buy random components and named a few. Calling this advertising is really a stretch.

You can play with everyone simultaniously. You can stand on this specific forest tile with 1000 other people, but you won't see them or know they exist.

This is a hard pass for me. If the cost is a problem to print different tiles and components, then simply release expansions with the components. The argument that every game is a new experience is also easy to achieve by either having a system in the rule book or an app that can generate it for you.

I agree. In the hypothetical situation that I loved the game and wanted to buy a second copy, I would want a way to ensure I was getting a game that was different enough from the first.
Basically, I wouldn't buy a second copy - at least not new. Maybe I'd buy one off someone else having already seen the components.

The model behind Keyforge is about as perfect as you can get for couples who like to play games casually. My wife and I got into magic a while ago using their Duel Decks, but grew pretty disenchanted at the cost and blatant lack of balance.  We don't have funds to buy singles and make our cool decks.  Booster packs and prerelease\release events are fun, but they get pricey fast.

And don't even get me started on how insane the LCG model is for a family with a budget.

Keyforge seems to be a perfect fit for those of us in the middle class. $10 for a deck is a sweet, sweet spot. I can't see this taking off professionally or anything, but I think Keyforge might be tapping a pretty big market.

The theory is that you get the individual cards all translated, then get the algorithm to throw out card numbers into deck lists, and print a certain number of these decks in each language.

I dont think they know if rotation is needed for this game.
Making everything balanced all the time is impossible.
Balance is something that changes across player skill level and time.

I’m not comparing this to the LCG model. I’m comparing it to other TCGs where a $40 base set is ludicrous.

Well, they've stated that theoretically, it is possible to get deck duplications. But with a mostly-random set of 36 cards, out of a pool of 350, the odds of duplication are so low that you might as well say every deck is unique. So theoretically, there may be a twin of your archon somewhere out there, even in your own language.
But here's the perspective: if we assume that 1/3 of each house are rare cards and one card per house is guaranteed to be rare (not facts I know, just guesses, but they should put a perspective on things), then the odds of duplicating just the three rares is 1 in (17^3)*35... that is, 1 in 171,955.
You don't have to worry about your archon being a special snowflake. If you manage to find his twin out there somewhere, he's going to be a super-special snowflake, beating those odds.

If FFG knows what they are doing, they will make a skirmish game. War Games are not sustainable for FFG long term, especially with the prices they are charging for quality that is below the market leaders.
