I'm inclined to agree with Donovan above. If a NPC took damage equal to his Wound Threshold, 99 times out of 100 I'd have the NPC fall to the ground incapacitated or dead just to keep things moving and not get bogged down by NPCs lingering and taking up game time with just 1 Wound point left.

I remember plenty of 4e D&D sessions where I'd have NPCs that'd take almost enough damage to drop and then adding another round of combat to finish off. Sometimes it's just easier to go with the flow and call equal to WT good enough to better service the narrative and keep things moving.

If the NPC is important to the plot for some reason and I need them to linger a bit, then maybe I'd keep them around if they still had 1 Wound left.

On an unrelated note, any reason a NPC couldn't take a stimpack? If an important NPC is exactly at their WT and you don't want them to drop just yet, let them zap themselves with a stim...

Actually it is worse than that.  Anyone who has helped design a game can tell you that dozens of potential rule variants exist for every one that is finally decided upon.  I know I can often remember game rules easier for games I did not develop than for those that I did.

Especially small decisions like numbers, stats, or, when to mechanically flip a switch.

As @Voice noted recently, he's actually working on some character sheet reworks right now!  There are a *lot* of moving parts to that one, and we're looking at changing the whole way the sheets are generated to facilitate better/more flexible sheet design (all within the limits of Qt's html-to-print libraries, which can be a little finicky).  No target date on that one yet--there will be some XML export changes first to facilitate it.

Not at all.  Han's Heavy Blaster Pistol does a minimum of 8 damage, on a roll with a single net success.  That's 3 past the soak.  With a minion-group of stormtroopers that's a good chunk of the way toward dropping a single trooper just with a single success.  He only needs 2 more successes to drop a stormtrooper in a single shot.  It's not going to happen every time, but it's won't take phenomenal rolling either.  There's also the potential for a Triumph to be used to drop a stormtrooper in a single shot in *addition* to any which might drop due to damage.

Also, don't forget that for a significant chunk of A New Hope (pretty much the entire Death Star sequence), the party is carting around the Blaster Carbines that they picked up from the various troopers they ambushed early on.  Those do a minimum of 10 points of damage on a single-success hit.  Exactly enough to bypass the soak, and drop a stormtrooper minion (the most common variety).

And, since soak only happens once per hit on a minion group, a particularly good roll, 6 net successes or more, would drop two troopers.

Also, a bit of (hopefully good) news relating to the character sheets.  I'm working with AltitudeMatters to revamp the rendering system with the end goal of getting prettier output.
I've given him a 'statblock' setup to test with, and figure out what updates/changes he needs in the application, but the first real sheet will be based on the sheet at https://www.dojotabletop.com/roleplayinggames and I'm also looking at mimicking the sheet from the book once that is done.  The goal is that, once it's fully setup, anybody with the right skill-sets ought to be able to do custom sheet designs.
It's a bit of a long-term project, and there's a number of unknowns, so I can't give any sort of timeline on it, but I figured people would like to know that it's coming.

BTW, I just got an answer from Sam though I don't think that it will change anyone's mind.  For the record, option A in my email was pierce subtracting from the soak value.  Here's the email:

If I'm attacking with a weapon with pierce 2, I'm ignoring 2 points of soak. If I hit a target with 10 soak, I ignore, refuse to take notice of, 2 of the 10. So I still take notice of 8 soak. Meaning, any attack that does 8 or less damage is ignored due to soak.

    I agree with Voice's interpretation.

No.  Pierce increases the likelyhood of doing damage on a successful hit, but it doesn't guarantee it.

    Pierce reads as follows:

If you have a Soak of 5, and get hit for 4 damage with a weapon with the Pierce 2 quality, you take 1 point of damage.

    5 Soak - 2 Pierce = 3 Soak
    4 Damage - 3 Soak = 1 Damage

If you (somehow) have Soak 20, and get hit for 10 damage with a weapon with the Pierce 2 quality, you still take no damage.
    20 Soak - 2 Pierce = 18 Soak
    10 Damage - 18 Soak = 0 Damage

Well, after recovering from work, and having dinner, I'm feeling a bit more inspired, so I'll take a whack at some thoughts...

Hmm...  I'm not so sure about the Silhouette.  The only art I've ever see that gives a sense of scale puts this ship at roughly the same size as a TIE Bomber (7.8m), or a Missile Boat (10m).  That goes nicely with the fact that it's supposed to use a standard TIE cockpit (at least the front half, anyway).

I know the Wookieepedia page says it's 24m long based on the WEG numbers, but I'm pretty sure we all know how accurate those tend to be.  That would also make it larger than an AT-AT, something the art clearly shows not to be the case.  If we assume that WEG pulled their all too common feet-equals-meters mistake, then it's somewhere in the neighborhood of 7.5m long, which is in the same neighborhood as the TIE Bomber, matching the art.  At the outside, I'd put it in the 10-12m range based on this image, so I think this one is pretty clearly in the Silhouette 3 range.

All of that means the HT & SS are almost certainly high, as are the HP.  It's not particularly hardy according to the descriptions, but a recon vessel can't afford to be too fragile.
How about HT 9, SS 10?

All of the descriptions talk about the advanced sensor suites that both the military and civilian versions had, so I might argue for Medium range there, at least on the military version.

And it certainly doesn't need 240 Encumbrance.  Sure, it has a significant, and dedicated, cargo hold, but that's more than the YTs we all know and love.  How about something in the neighborhood of 20-30, putting it close to the similar-purpose A-24 Sleuth?

Not being quite so large, it probably doesn't need all those HP either.  Fighters tend to run in the 1-2 range, but this has a bit more bulk.  Maybe 3?

    That gives us:
    Sil 3
    Speed 3
    Handling -1
    Def 1/1
    Armor 3
    HT 9
    SS 10
    Hyperddrive x3
    Backup x15
    Navcom: Yes
    Sensors: Medium
    Crew: 1-2; 1 pilot, 1 co-pilot (optional)
    Enc: 30
    Passengers: 2-3
    Consumables: 1 yr
    Cost: 100,000ish, 5 Rare
    HP: 3
    Weapons: Forward Light Laser Cannon

As a GM, I'll won't just 'let' my players to offer up suggestions on how to resolve threat/advantage results, I'll *encourage* it.  If you've got 4 players, you've got 4 extra minds to figure out how, exactly, to make sense of, or describe what's going on in the game.  In my mind, the idea that only the GM gets to make that sort of decision is one of the *worst* aspects of many RPGs.
Take advantage of your players' own creativity.  If something they suggest is too much, or not enough for a given result, make suggestions on how to tweak it, or let them do something else with the 'leftovers'.

Most of the overlap seems to be between 'active' and 'passive' applications of the same skill set.

Vigilance is 'passive' awareness, you aren't actually searching for something, but you notice something.
Perception is 'active' awareness, you're actively searching for something and you find it.

Other areas of overlap seem to be split on the 'theory vs. practice' line.
For example, Knowledge (Underworld) vs. Streetwise.

Reading the skill descriptions closely can help get a feel for where these lines are drawn, but most of the time you'll be right based on weighing which skill's *name* feels more appropriate.  (Or at least I seem to be.)

Um.  Try talking to them.  Let them know that you're *definitely* not cool with that sort of thing, and if they keep it up you'll stop running the game.
Seriously.  If your players are creeping you out to this degree, and they can't respect you enough to stop, you probably want to find a new group.

If you're not actually willing to stop running the game, just remember one little detail about torture.  It's not *just* a bad idea because you've got to be an evil ****** to want to do it.  It's a bad idea, because you don't actually get any actionable intelligence out of it.  Someone being tortured will tell you what they think you want to hear.  In explicit detail.  With *absolutely* no regard for whether it bears any resemblance to the truth as they know it.

    You torture your victim(s):
They think you want to hear about Imperial fleet movements?
They'll tell you, in great detail, how the 183rd fleet is traveling to he Anoat sector for the Emperor's visit.  Half the Grand Moffs of the Imperial Navy will be present for some sort of award ceremony, and the local Imperial Army commander feels like he's getting the short shrift by not receiving equal recognition, and the rumor mill says he's shorting their protective details as a result.  They'll tell you that their source is their own grandmother, who works as a secretary for some mid-eschelon official who routes communications for the commander.

They've got a *great* bit of intel there, right?  So much possibility to strike a blow against the Empire!  Huzzah!

The reality?  The 183rd fleet *exists*.  It may or may not be anywhere *near* the Anoat sector.  The Emperor most certainly *isn't* gathering half the Imperial Navy's high command in a backwater part of space for some ceremony.  The Army commander?  He's real, but he's hardcore loyal to the Empire, and wouldn't *imagine* doing anything to endanger it's command structure.  He keeps double the marines on the customs ships in the sector, and insists that *every* ship be boarded and inspected.  No exceptions.  He won't hesitate to order the destruction of a bus full of nuns if they try to avoid the boarding, or resist the troops.

The victim of the torture?  He's just making **** up.  He wants the pain to stop.  He's going to say whatever he thinks will make the pain stop.  After all, if you're willing to do that to get information from him, he's not expecting to survive the experience anyway.

Not a Jedi-based game, and back in Saga Edition, but we had an encounter in one adventure where the players were exposed to a Rakatta neuro-toxin that made them perceive their worst fears.
When none of the players made their save, the GM simply described what the players saw:
    1) The bulk of the party saw our heavy, who had been scratched by a RakGhoul in an earlier session, make the change.
    2) The heavy saw the rest of the party's organics react in terror, shouting "Oh, no!  She's changing!  Kill her!".
    3) My droid, saw what was actually happening, and reacted in an appropriately confused manner, trying to stop them from killing each other.

It was both awesome drama in character, *and* absolutely hilarious out of character.

Something like that could be done as almost any of the trials.

Nothing contradictory about encumbrance not usually being important, but still being very important on occasion.

For a real life example, consider the lowly check-engine light.  Most of the time, it serves no meaningful purpose.  In fact, often times it remains superfluous for the entire life of a car.  Occasionally, however, it becomes a very important part of the car.

Yep.  And even *in* that universe, absent invoking the Force (which hasn't been a part of the conversation at all), heroes aren't depicted as being more than twice as fast as the fastest human alive today.  They still obey basic laws of physics that are *remarkably* similar to the laws of physics that *we* observe.

So, you're claiming that *anyone* who is assaulted by an armed person is *guaranteed* to be able to escape *without harm* just by turning and running?
Or is that somehow a special trait gained by having "a gun in their hand"?

If that's the case, why does *nobody* teach that, and why are there so many injuries involving people being stabbed, clubbed, etc. while trying to escape an armed assailant?
No police department, no branch of the military, and no *competent* self-defense instructor will claim that you are guaranteed to be able to get away safely by turning your back on an attacker and running.

Face it, your claims of being able to escape melee combat range that easily simply don't bear out in real life.

Here's some proof for you, in video form.

The starting gun fires a hair after 12 seconds.
Look how far from the starting blocks the racers are at 13 seconds, subtract out that 0.4 second response time that you haven't disputed, and the fraction of a second between the 0:12 mark and the gun, and the runners still have the runners still have 100% of your allotted 0.4 seconds to accelerate as hard and fast as they can, and they're *still* in knife range.  And that's world-class sprinters, starting with every advantage available to them.

Sometime around the 13.5 second mark, they've covered enough distance to be safe from a stationary attacker, but that's also more than double the time you're claiming a normal person will need.

I've had sessions like that.  Three of them, back to back to back, in the first three sessions of the same campaign.
They killed the droid crime-lord who was supposed to be their contact to join the Rebellion. They decided that the best way to escape a space station was to do a head-on assault on the station's imperial barracks so they could steal some stormtrooper armor. They ditched Bail Organa (one character's 'uncle'), leaving him to the Empire to take the blame for something that they had failed to stop from happening. Fortunately, in my case, the would-be 'blue screen' moment came at the *end* of each session, giving me a week to recover.  Also fortunately, I have more than a few years GMing under my belt.
I've never been sure whether I'm glad or disappointed that the campaign ended after the 4th session, when player's work schedules became incompatible.

Thats not possible to get 12 damage and +30 to a crit roll.
At most he would do 11 damage and +10 to a crit roll if he had a fully modded lightsaber.

So I'd like a better explaination unless I'm missing something...

Even then its a roll of 2y 1 G vrs 2 red its not a likely result that the person would get that.
