    Sorry about that,
My nerd rage at GW came out a little.
My refrence to the waac players stems from several at my flgs had to buy multiple sets to get the units they wanted. Thus single set owners who wanted to playe casualy in a competetive environment were already behind the gun the first time we played.
This is the same mentality the miniatures gamer suffers from. As soon as i saw this, iwas turned off, sold my set and moved on.

As a multiple core-set owner (I have two) I can tell you that buying more than one may not represent the win at all cost mentality.  I don't even play in tournaments, and so far have only played casually at home with friends and family!

So why buy the second core?  I bought it because it opens up way more army building options, and allows for more fun combos to explore.  It also lets me do things like run four pistoliers or double skycutter, neither of which is a competitive build, but both of which I enjoy.  It also allowed me to share the more powerful, in-demand command cards with my opponent, rather than restricting them to usage by just one of us, gave us the opportunity to have more than one of the same terrain and deployment zones, etc.

As you can see, from my perspective, a second core set makes the game more fun because it opens up the army building aspect a bit more, not because it gives me an advantage.  I play with my family, and we share access to our collective disk pool, so nobody gains an edge, but we all gain opportunities for expanded army building and fun combos.  Some people in your area may have purchased a second set for similar reasons.

    Just my two cents.

    Really?

My thoughts exactly.  I scrub the internet for people who like this game.  I play as much as I can, and I eat up tournament reports, and to be honest, I see no evidence for WAAC players.  In fact, if FFG is to be believed, we're all just too **** friendly.  So friendly in fact, we don't like tournaments, where there has to be a winner...

All kidding aside, please tell me if I'm wrong Atraangelis, but your post seems to either be sarcasm, or trolling...  I don't like to accuse people of trolling, but I really see no evidence of what you are saying.

Were there really Win at all costs players at Warhammer: Diskwars tournaments?  I could see the occasional such player showing up, but to say that the tournament scene in its infancy was overrun with them seems a bit strong.

I have not been to any tournies, but my experience on the forums and feedback I have heard from others who attended tournies seem to indicate that the WHDW scene was fairly easy-going and fun to play with, so that was my impression.

If not, and there are many undesireable opponents, this really surprises me and is the first I have heard of it.

I have a weird opinion on this, I actually think the game is better played casually with friends than at tourneys.  Not to say the game isn't tightly balanced, it is (well, okay, I think the dragons, trolls, etc. should be one per army).  It's because of the command card phase.  Being able to outguess your opponent happens best after multiple games together, playing with strangers at a tourney doesn't really allow for this.  So, my favorite army, the Vampire Counts, is awesome played casually with my wife - I outguess her with command cards and win pretty handily with them.  However, at the tournament scene, they get creamed - I simply don't know my opponents or their tendencies, so outguessing them becomes nigh on impossible.

So for me, this decision doesn't bother me overmuch, although I've enjoyed the tourneys I've been to (even though I lost).  My hope is that the game continues to grow casually and gets at least one more expansion to round everything out.  I think it will.  And of course, I'll buy every expansion that does come out - it's such a great game.  :-)

    Ciao Giovanni!
    I'm italian too!
Thank you for the blog, I just discoverd it, so great!
    Mi servirà un sacco!
I am a newbie, tonight i'll play my third match!
I think this game is great and it has an enormous potential. But I also fear that the game is not selling that much.
If this fact is right, it makes me so sad.
I have always loved Warhammer but never played for money and time. Now I can play too!
    Speriamo vada bene...
Now almost everyone can play warhammer!

I'm sad too because I was considering in the future to play tournaments, but I just read the news. They are closing the tournament... what do you think about it?

So excited to read your blog! Che figo, grande!
    Bye!

I don't know FFG strategy, but in Italy warhamer diskwars is a new game, they translated it only at the end of 2014, we are just discovering it.
I am a new player, I'm really enthusiast about the game, I would partecipate in a new tournament the next year if there would be one.
So, for me, maybe it is too early to close the tournament.

I totally agree with High Elves 77.
And it is not over yet. The production ends as soon as FFG announces so. Until then, let us not jump to conclusions and rumours, just because tournament play ended. It could be a hint, but is no proof.

I saw that announcement as well.  It was sad, as I saw their commitment to supporting organized play as a hopeful sign.  Now that said commitment is no longer there, it makes me feel pretty discouraged.  On the other hand, they implied that sales were strong (though they may just be blowing hot air), so there is still hope.  Also, not many games actually get organized play support, so that isn't necessarily a death knell...but it does feel like one.

What was particularly depressing to me is the fact that I would definitely attend a tournament if there was one to attend nearby, but there wasn't a single one being held in my state.  I don't have the time/energy right now to go to games stores often (new job, young kids, and a puppy kind of limit that sort of thing), so I haven't really had a chance to promote the game much outside of my own family/friends circle, making me an unlikely candidate to generate support locally for a tournament.  It makes me feel as though I haven't done enough to support my favorite game--and I see that it could use the support!  Maybe those of us who are die-hard fans should try and commit ourselves to selling at least one other person on the game this year.  We could double the player base if we pulled that off.

I, for one, will continue to flip my disks long after the game is discontinued.  I am desperate for more content, and would love to see the game take off, but even if it doesn't I am extremely appreciative of what we have to date.

That said, I still hold out hope that the official life is far from over, even without tournaments.  Those kids I mentioned above will have to learn to play someday, and I would love for the game to be alive and kicking when they are ready to engage in battle--but I will teach them either way!

Fair enough.  I didn't play WH:I enough to know what keywords and abilities didn't get used well.

However, I think it's safe to say we can still rely on the fact that when they canceled the game, they announced the fact that they were canceling it along with releasing two new expansions.  I think that part is very hopeful.

It says "Ally (Dark Elf symbol) disks gain immune (ranged attack symbol)."

To me that means you cannot even attack them, as it is not damage they are immune to, it is the attack itself.  This is different than, say, Teclis, who is immune to arcane damage but not immune to being targeted by a missile attack that deals arcane damage.  Thus, he still can be shot by flamers for a potential activation even if he can't be harmed.

    New blog updates:

    - Continuing the translation of older articles in Italian, here's the one on Disk Actions (also I made some minor updates and corrections to the original article, which featured some typos and unaccurate information about Flying disks ending their movement on dangerous terrain taking damage where they shouldn't).
    - A new battle report! From the Battlefield 21 when finally the Dark Elves join the fray!
    - Also, some time ago I uploaded the first and second part of the Italian Command Cards article, but I didn't announce the update. For the sake of completeness I'm doing it now.

    As always, comments are welcome.

The card reads Skaven caster or priest.  This isn't perfectly clear, as it could a reference a Skaven disk (whether caster or priest) or a skaven caster and any priest, but I think we were supposed to apply the Skaven limiting condition to both keywords.  Think of it this way: if I say middle-aged men and women I don't mean middle-aged men and all women everywhere.  I probably mean middle-aged men and middle-aged women.  If I want to be explicit, I should use the latter construction, but colloquially most English speakers use the former.

I think the same concept applies to this card. To me the card reads as saying that the originating disk must be a Skaven caster or a Skaven priest, so it wouldn't be able to trigger off of a non-Skaven priest unit.

I would also say that judging by the artwork and the way that they have released other faction-specific cards, this was meant to be limited to Skaven alone, regardless of the slight ambiguity.  It was also printed in an all-destruction box, increasing the likelihood that it was meant to be destruction only.

That's my take on it, anwyay.

Kako,  you really need to take all of those rumors with a huge boat load of salt.  I've been following GW rumors for some time, and their validity falls something like this.  75% Completely false, 20% You can see where they were coming from, but still not exactly what the rumor said, 4% True from a certain point of view, 1% spot on.

At any rate, GW gets money from the Diskwars IP, they aren't going to kill it, just because it doesn't match their current meta.  Even in the most extreme rumors, they go out of their way to say you can use the 8th ed book to represent battles before the End Times, End Times Campaign books to represent the world being torn asunder, and then the new book to represent the new world.

Certainly you are right, the world will be contracted.  They've already started merging factions in the End Times.  But I'm also certain that the End Times were already in the planning stages when Diskwars came out, and certainly by the time the two expansions came out.  Nagash may have even been on the shelf, though I can't quite remember when that book hit relative to the Diskwars releases.

I think Sniper Troll is right.  This game will at least be 'completed'.  It wouldn't look good for FFG to leave what is clearly half of the intended game unfinished.  We will, at the very least, see the four stub races completed before they will kill the game.  The question is, how long will that take.

Sniper Troll, if I recall correctly, when they stopped invasion they did while announcing two final expansions, right?  Was it the same for Tanhauser?

The same goes for the command cards for the four "minor races". Skin to Bark aside (which I believe to be quite strong regardless, and it could only get stronger with more Wood Elf casters and potential targets), the other three cards have somewhat limited utility.
Leaping Strike is an OK card to me, but basically forces you to activate Chakax and 2 Salamanders to have maximum effect. Vermintide is only useful if you are either aggressive with Ikit Claw (which means ignoring his greater strength which is his Long Range magic attack) or if he gets charged. Sure it's not that bad but has some risk involved. Also note that its requirements read "Skaven Caster or Priest"... while we have a Skaven Caster (Ikit) there's no Skaven Priest in Warhammer: Diskwars (but in Warhammer Fantasy we have Plague Priests and their boss Lord Skrolk - which BTW I'd like to see as a Skaven hero). Cloaked by Darkness is of very limited utility (IMHO) in a non mono-DE army. Not that I'm saying it's completely useless, as it can force your opponent either not to shoot for that round or to shoot to other targets than your frail Harpies and Lokhir. Also by making your Dark Elves immune to ranged attacks it allows you to be a bit more carefree with the Black Ark Corsairs, knowing they won't be hurt by their own ranged attacks. Still, it's a bit too few (IMHO) to consider including this card in a mixed army.

The strongest hint is in the announcement article for Hammer&Hold and Legions of Darkness: "announcing the first two expansions for Warhammer Diskwars". (emphasis mine)

Compare with, for example, the announcement articles of the first Blood Bowl: Team Manager, Descent Second Edition, Elder Sign or, more recently (contemporary to WDW) Eldritch Horror. They all refer to the announcement of "an upcoming expansion" though each of these games saw at least another expansion released. Also the two army packs for Battlelore Second Edition were announced as "two upcoming expansions" and not "the first two".

Maybe is just wishful thinking, maybe I'm reading too much between the lines, but to me "first two" implies there are others to come. Not sure when any more, but they will.

Funny you should bring this up; I was just thinking about this yesterday.  Drycha and Lokhir's abilities make me think that they at least have full armies designed for those two factions, because the keywords they trigger are currently a bit underwhelming in a one-regiment army.  Not that they are bad, they would just be much more robust in a full army.  They seem to have been designed with other disks in mind, so I expect to at least see those other disks at some point.  Yes to treekin and treemen, please!

IDK to be honest.  Just a hunch I suppose.  I don't think it makes sense to keep things the way they are, when those other races have so much to offer.  They don't do a whole lot, as they are, to add variety.  They reek with possibilities to expand, and some of their special abilities don't make a lot of sense when mixed with other armies.  Drycha's ability to flip forest allies, it helps a little right now, but doesn't feel complete.  If they were only meant to support the core races, I think they would have more generic abilities.

I suppose I could be wrong, but since their history as Sniper Troll pointed out is to announce the end of support for a game, along with a final release of expansions, I would suspect it would be the same with this.

Remember, this is classified as a board game.  Board game expansions are slower than LCG and Miniature game expansions.  I really think we have nothing to worry about right now.  Though I think the health of the game would be greatly improved with slightly quicker expansion.

They most likely won't say anything until they have something ready to announce. But definitely the game is being supported. As I wrote, the Tournament Kits are a good sign, and FFG is not the company to cease support to its (non stand-alone) games without a warning.
I read in another topic someone writing about the fate of Warhammer: Invasion and Tannhäuser: when support for either game was called off ther was an official announcement from FFG, and in both cases the main reason for interrupting support was (according to FFG) they felt the game was "complete" and no further expansion was needed.
Sure there were also economic reasons behind that decision (It would be stupid not to think a business company not to factor investment returns into its product release programs) but I believe appealing to the "completeness" of the game at the time of the announcement was a fair decision.

Warhammer: Diskwars is by no means complete. There's a lot of stuff that can be included. I don't think all of Warhammer Fantasy armies, nor all of the units in the existing armies, but still a good chunk of them is missing. We know that. We can just go to Games Workshop's website to see how many units and heroes there are. And the production model of the two expansions is most likely a teaser of what's to come: here's Dwarfs and Vampire Counts, with a side dish of other stuff, just to let you know we didn't forget about them.

That's my opinion. But I'm the more optimistic Troll in the world, so take it for what it is.

Since my hopes for a 6-month release schedule had been destroyed three months ago, and those of a 9-month release schedule are dwindling faster and faster (but are still high enough) I'm ready to wait until spring for an announcement... but not more than that.

The fact that they are supporting the game through Tournament Kits is an undoubtedly positive sign, so, let's arm with patience and wait...

IDK about 40k diskwars.  I think there are some unusual barriers for that one.  Not that FFG couldn't overcome them, I'd just be skeptical until I saw it.  I think the fact that everything has a ranged attack would make it less interesting than Fantasy.  Just my 2 cents.  Though, they could go with a bigger scale, something like Epic, then you could say that pinning represented more than just close combat, and have ranged attacks as we're used to reserved for things like artillery and titans.  But there's also Conquest to think about.  We only got Diskwars when Invasion had run its course.  I'm not convinced FFG would release two 40k games like this at the same time.  But, they have certainly saturated us with Star Wars IP based games, so who's to say?  Though, SW is a little more valuable than anything Games Workshop has to offer.

All that said...  I'd probably buy it.  Diskwars is such a good concept, it would most likely overcome my skepticism.  Though I'd really prefer more of this game.  I just wish FFG wasn't keeping it under such a tight lid.  just some hint of what's to come, even if it were still several months off would make me happier.
