    Just do that then, instead of insisting that other people are playing their game wrong.  Get into the Fighter Wing thread and brag on the X-wing.  Go tell wonderful stories of how your smuggler/technician/politico got embroiled in fighting the Empire.

    I for one like playing against the Empire.  But that doesn't mean I need to beat people over the head with it.

    I had such high hopes for this thread
    I can be extremely naïve for someone 44 years of age.

    A few points.

    a) Not once have I said I want to play the Imperials; your little troll mind decided to link "person who is open to the idea of not all Imperials being 100% bad guys" with "guy who wants to play them all of the time";

    b) Comparing the Taliban to either Star Wars branches shows true ignorance of the group in general. Don't crap on the memories of my brothers-in-arms who have died fighting against the real Taliban by making such an idiotic comparison. Or, if you are going to, at least have the guts to say it within earshot of a squaddie.

    Anyways, I'm done feeding the troll. I figured you might not be as bad a bloke as everyone paints you out to be, but that was the optimist in me speaking. He's been enlightened.

    The Force Unleashed is more like Star Wars if it was was written by a 13 year old. "Yeah, so this guy, he can kick Darth Vader's ass and he's powerful. And he rides a TYRANNOSAURUS REX. A Tyrannosaurus Rex that has missile launchers. . .  that shoot other dinosaurs! Wait - it shoots NINJA DINOSAURS! And the T-Rex is on FIRE! And then some pirates show up in their time machine and they fight with Kung-Fu. And the pirates are on fire too. Yeah, that's AWESOME!"

    I think the Spitfire analogy is particularly fitting because of how far the X-wing's operational lifespan was; IIRC they were still using upgraded versions of it well into 40 ABY.

    However, I don't think the Rebellion would really have the means (Or the desire) to invest so heavily into a program to rival the Defenders; for one there's a reason so few were ever built (They're hideously expensive as starfighters IIRC), and second after seeing how limited their numbers (And therefore effectiveness) were I really doubt the Rebellion would deem them enough of a threat to justify expending millions of credits on a research or retrofitting program.

    This is exactly what I was thinking of. Sure, the Alliance leadership (Mon Mothma, Leia Organa, the military members of Alliance High Command) would be fighting a very traditional sort of war: attack military targets, imperialized industries that contribute to the imperial war effort, and the Imperial intelligence community. For them, collateral damage would probably be acceptable with a big enough target (as in real-world targeting assessments), but civilians would not be intentionally targeted. This would include both actual Navy SEAL commando-type missions as well as covert infiltration and sabotage, turning imperial agents into double agents, propaganda, etc.

    Compare this to any number of cells who have felt the oppression of the Empire keenly on their worlds. Particularly post-0BBY Alderaanians, who would learn that (probably) billions of innocents were killed in an instant. I don't think it's a stretch for people exposed to those conditions to be more fast-and-loose with harming loyalist Imperial citizens: Alderaan's citizenry was wholly murdered without mercy, so who cares if more loyals get caught in the crossfire? The numbers will never balance out after all.

    I also don't know how well Alliance Command would screen new recruits. It's entirely possible for some swaths of the Rebellion to be like the current Syrian Opposition: not considering themselves subject to overarching leadership or even having the same long-term goals beyond "topple the regime," and that attracts all sorts of people, from idealists who play by the book to warmongering profiteers looking to carve something out for themselves or just to fight.
