Maybe with Total War: Warhammer coming there will be renewed efforts on this game from FFG? Or am I being to hopeful? XD

+1 to what MechaBri.Zilla said above concerning FFG and their respect for the players. They always communicate very well when they will stop supporting a game, and they were open and honest with the decision to remove Diskwars from OP. If it is going to be dropped, we can be sure they will tell us, and as I and others have pointed out numerous times, they generally release one "last hurrah" pack or expansion for their games, which I think is pretty cool; it stinks when your game is cut and the expansions are cut cold-turkey.
All in all, I think FFG is pretty nice to the players of their games, and they definitely communicate with us when something big is happening!

I can't tell you how OP did around the world, but in my neck of the woods, we have 5 game stores within driving distance. Among those only 2 even carried the game, and only one tried to set up organized play. I showed up. That's right, me. Well, and one guy I dragged with me. That's it. No scene at all. I live near a large college town with lots of potential players, and I was the only one interested in organized play.
Again, this is just my experience and can't be applied to the world wide community, but if the turn outs around the world were similar to what we had here, I can't blame FFG for dropping the game from it's list of OP titles. That said, I can usually get a game when I want one, and my FLGS says that the game sells fairly well, so I continue to hope for more products.
Just remember, it's not a respect issue. FFG shows more respect for the their players than almost any other game company I have experience with. GW, I'm looking at you... Love your products, but seriously talk to us! ahem... Sorry. Anyway, FFG is a bis. They have limited resources, if one game (any game) can make them more money in OP than Diskwars did, I fully support them switching too it. The better FFG does, the better chance we'll continue to see awesome games from them. If Diskwars dies, well then, I have 2 copies of everything they sold, so I'm pretty happy.

The "mutism" is no mystery at all. FFG made clear several times in the last years that:
- they don't talk about the future of their products until they are ready to announce a new expansion. So, sending emails to anyone won't result in anything but no answers. IF there's something in the future of Diskwars, we'll learn it the hard way, by reading the news on FFG's homepage
- as long as you see a forum active (i.e. not in the "Legacy Games" subsection of these boards) they do not consider the line abandoned, and this implies that either they will expand it or that they simply keep it in production
So, the only thing we can do, is sit and hope something will be announced, sooner or later. In any case, it's a line that didn't meet the producer's expectations (OP was cancelled, and the production rythms dropped consistently). Still, it's a relatively new line, so, I still have a lot of hope. But I won't be holding my breath in the meantime

MechaBri.Zilla reacted to TheSniperTroll in The Sniper Troll: a Warhammer: Diskwars Blog
For other games they discontinued (Warhammer: Invasion, Tannhäuser) they did just that. Moreover they announced the end of the line while announcing the release of the final expansion. We don't have any reason to think it would be different for Warhammer: Diskwars when it will be discontinued, which at the moment is not.
As MechaBri.Zilla wrote somewhere else (sorry man, can't remember where), many made the mistake to consider Warhammer: Diskwars akin to a Living Card Game (or to X-Wing) and drew the erroneous conclusion that it would receive the same amount of support those kind of games have, with frequent expansions and such.
Well, this isn't going to happen. Maybe it would have happened if it had a more vibrant competitive scene, but FFG found it didn't and decided to cut the support for tournament play. That's it. But no support for tournament play doesn't mean no more Diskwars, just that we'll have to wait.
We'll have new expansions when the new expansions come out. No sooner, no later.

MechaBri.Zilla reacted to Jedhead in Warhammer Quest Card Game
Actually, I have recently been developing a cooperative Diskwars variant. It is loads of fun. I call it Disk-Agriculture.
There is no combat, but armies work together in harmony to clear the rocks from the battlefield, cut down forests, and drain swamps. They then work shoulder-to-shoulder to plant crops, reap a fruitful harvest, and plan a harvest festival. Attack values represent clearing and harvesting power, while defensive values represent plowing and planting skills. Stamina is used to represent time each character may spend working, and speed determines how rapidly they work. There are other rules, which I would be happy to provide if anyone is interested--it has proven to be a very popular party game in my circles!
Good, clean fun, with none of that disturbing violence. Try it, and you will never play the original Diskwars again.*
*This is, of course, all a lie. Thought I should make that clear since this is the internet.

Yeah, Old World based games don't seem to be going anywhere. This was announced just last week I think.

It is at least another proof that the "GW will force FFG to ditch anything related to the old Warhammer setting because of Age of Sigmar" fear was senseless.
As a big fan of the old Warhammer Quest, I'm going to keep an eye on this game for sure... meanwhile I'm continuing to wait for new Diskwars expansions despite all the (useless IMHO) doom and gloom.

Well, now we know that old world games are still a thing. I think this bodes very well for Diskwars, assuming that Diskwars can make FFG some money.
That said, Warhammer Quest looks pretty solid. I'll be looking forward to this one.

Yes!!! Don't know how many of you were a fan of this when GW had it as a board game, but I can't wait for this. It also seems that FFG is sticking with the "traditional" Warhammer universe...so maybe this bodes well for Diskwars.

MechaBri.Zilla got a reaction from janbjo in Command cards - question
Hi PanKalich! Welcome to the best 2 dimensional wargame out there.
Dkartzinel is right on. But you should know, the expectation in this game is that everyone has their own set. What that means is that you should be able to take any card you want as long as your army meets the requirements. i.e.: an orc army may take generic, destruction, and orc only cards, but not an order, or high elf card. Their is no draw or selection process, you just pick the ones you want, up to the limit provided by your generals.
The problem with this is that if you are using one set for both players it means you both can't have eager troops, a very popular generic card, unless you have multiple copies of the set.
To counter this, I highly recommend using proxies, until you get a feel for the game, and decide if you like it or not. Once you've been playing for a bit, you may want a second core set. Or, your opponents may buy their own sets, which will eliminate the problem.
Second core sets are actually a pretty good investment, there is very little waste in the box. The only disks you might question needing extra copies of are the generals, and even they have use, should you and your opponent wish to run a mirror match. i.e. orcs v. orcs.
Anyway, hope this helps! Good luck, and have fun.
Oh! one last thing, there is a blog: https://snipertroll.wordpress.com/ which is awesome, and will answer tons of questions you might have, as well as providing sample army lists, and discussion about some of the strategy behind Diskwars. Also, you might check out the Board Game Geek page for the game as well. Lots and lots of info on those two pages.

I want this to continue as Invasion was dropped without even giving me an Ogre Kingdoms or Tomb King army to play. Same thing with this game.

MechaBri.Zilla got a reaction from janbjo in Warhammer: Age of Sigmar & Diskwars
Am I the only one who isn't at all upset by AoS? WHFB was bloated, and too hard to get into. I love the setting, but we have no community for it here, and I live in an area with no less than 5 gaming stores all within a half hour drive.
Personally, that's why I got so into diskwars. It was way easier to play, cheaper, and more balanced. Not to mention, I didn't need my opponent to have his own army, I have enough stuff to play with anyone who has a passing interest.
Anyway, GW didn't kill the Old World entirely. It's still a part of the lore, it's just history in terms of the mini's game. Total War: Warhammer, and Vermintide prove that. I'm sure that GW already knew they were switching to AoS when the licenses for those games were sold. If Diskwars dies, it will be profit related, not IP related.
At any rate, this is a board game, not an LCG, and though I'm disappointed at the length of time between updates, FFG is still updating Elder Sign and Blood Bowl Team Manger, but there are years between updates for those games, so I hold out hope they will continue to update this, it just may be a while. As others have said, FFG's money is currently better spent on their Star Wars license. Nothing we can do about that.

MechaBri.Zilla reacted to Jedhead in Expansion stalker
If they intend to release more content (which I believe they do) I wish they would throw us a bone and give us a preview or two. My hope is slowly bleeding away, and it is difficult to sustain or generate enthusiasm among my friends and family for a game that they see as lacking development.
I fear that at first glance WH:DW appears to be a dead game, or at least one that is already on life-support in its childhood. Simply put, it is difficult to convince people to invest in a game that is in this dry spell of development.
Enough doom and gloom--this is a phenomenal game, and I am still playing and trying to convince others to play. I just want one update or new release to make my role as a priest of the Diskwars cult that much more fulfilling, and to aid me in bringing others into the fold!

MechaBri.Zilla reacted to Jedhead in Possible to play solo or via an online helper?
Below is a link to previous post from the forums here. It contains a description of vassal, which a popular option for online play, and should help you get set up if you choose to go that route.
https://community.fantasyflightgames.com/topic/133231-diskwars-vassal-module/
As for solo play, I do that all the time to test builds or to just get in a game when I really need to get my fix and nobody is around to play with me. I just try to move both armies "impartially" to make sure there is no favoritism, and I select a command card for one of the armies and then randomize the card from the other army. This isn't perfect by any means, but it works out fine and gives me a rough idea of the effectiveness of the armies in question.
It also helps if you put up a giant mirror across the table from you and draw on a huge black mustache and an eye-patch or a fine hat. Look in the mirror and, presto: Evil You is there! I can never beat evil me; it seems the bastard always knows my next move...

MechaBri.Zilla reacted to janbjo in Warhammer: Age of Sigmar & Diskwars
Considering what is happening on the video game front. Vermintide and Total War Warhammer both set in the Warhammer Fantasy world we know. I don't see Age of Sigmar as blocking new Diskwars content. It might or might not be a good move by GW to get fresh blood into the beast that was Warhammer Fantasy but it will probably not, if ever, affect Diskwars until the new material has settled.
I love Warhammer Diskwars, but I get the feeling it didn't survive in the Shadow of X-wing/Armada. But I would welcome any new content for this game. It has been a gift to the surpessed wargamer in me.

MechaBri.Zilla reacted to Jedhead in Warhammer: Age of Sigmar & Diskwars
I hope that they will stick with the old fluff and continue to produce based on that. The new stuff is extremely lackluster in my opinion--it feels like jumping the shark, or hitting the "alternate-timeline" reset button ala new Star Trek. Additionally, the current army design and split between order and destruction doesn't match the new fluff very well and would have to be reworked or given a whole new army-building ruleset.
Frankly, the 9th edition stuff is not very well done, and leaves you wondering if GW will even continue to support Warhammer Fantasy at all since they have officially killed the universe as of now. This has been discussed in detail elsewhere on these forums, but I can't resist complaining again. Anything that lumps High Elves and Dark Elves into one faction and declares that Malekith is actually the Phoenix King but is just sad and misunderstood gets my blood boiling.
That said, if it was the only way I could possibly get a new expansion, I would take it, bad writing and convoluted plot notwithstanding.

MechaBri.Zilla reacted to Ravnos Phantom in Movement idea
Hi!
I've been currently toying with the idea of creating new Units with clunky movement (e.g. shield Wall movement):
What do you think about Units with different geometrics such as a Square instead of circle/Disk? Such a Unit would only be allowed to flip over the straight borders of the square and would thus be hindered in movement without the need for lengthy new rules (imagine the moves of a triangle Disk...).
Of course it would not be pure "Disk"-wars anymore. ;-)

Allow me to thank Jedhead for his great job!

MechaBri.Zilla reacted to High Elves 77 in Expansion stalker
I don't necessarily think the end of WHFB or 9th edition being up in the air means that FFG will shelve Diskwars. I don't believe that FFG would need to move Diskwars in the same direction that WHFB is going. I saw that they are releasing a new video game for WHFB (Total War). This game does not follow the new storyline set up from 9th edition (at least it looks that way from what I saw from the previews). So why say that Diskwars will rise and fall based on if there is a 9th edition or not? As a matter of fact, I wouldn't want them to move Diskwars in the same direction. I think this new stuff for WHFB is absolutely stupid.

MechaBri.Zilla reacted to Jedhead in Rules question: engages and Archaon
Actually, the ability triggers more than once. In this instance, it would trigger twice, dealing two arcane damage.
Per the designer's words: (and courtesy of the Sniper Troll's rules compendium)
Q: If a disk has an ability that says “when this disk engages an enemy” (i.e. Archaon), does its ability trigger multiple times when it engages more than one enemy at once?
A: Yes, Archaon and similar abilities trigger each time they engage a disk. This is different than an ability that says “When this disk engages at least 1 enemy…” which would only trigger once.
