  2. The key is preparation and having a good plan in mind to run the event. I do a lot of preparation before any tournament. The store owner backs me up with any decision I have to make as far as preparing, and once registration begins I have the store so to speak. I prepared for a month really for the store championship. The week leading up to the registration start time I spent 10-15 hours (lost track of the time) reviewing the rules, making sure we had enough maps, working with the store owner on setup.

The night before I spent 5 hours setting up. I got to the store more than an hour before the store opened to finalize the setup and setup my "command center."

There is no secret or trick for me. I have run 13 tournaments, and I know now through trial and error what works and what doesn't. The other key is have a plan for how you register people, verify lists, then get the players settled in before any pairings posted. The other key is communicate with the players when you need to. They will need the instructions of how to register, length of rounds, how many rounds, etc. But in the end it all comes down to preparation and planning.

  7. I don't a complaint in the way that FFG is doing regionals this year. I know that if the regional is more than 8 hours from where I live, it will be tough to go due to money. Now, that doesn't mean I won't go. It will just add to the difficulty of going. I like this idea, as last year the amount of regional champs really watered down the second round of the tournament and actually watered down the tournament to some degree. I believe there was 33 but I could be wrong. In the end, this will be a fun event this year. I like the prizes. I also like the fun that will be had.

  10.

From Omaha alone we had 6 out of our 7 players wearing fly casual shirts.

And your 7th (Dustin) displayed the ultimate philosophy of the mantra, so he gets a big nod there.

    Doug,

You are correct. Not only did he believe in it, he proved it.

  11. This is a great write-up. It is really interesting to find out what you were thinking and going through during your final match. I can say I was there and watched it live, and having this summary really makes the experience better. You are a good player, and in the end the dice were not in your favor. I think that Paul is a good player who makes few mistakes, and your match just came down to the dice. Congrats on your success.

  12. Brown Bomber, He uses the Y-Wings as blockers and close in fire power. The Y's are used as close in support, the x-wings as level two fire power and the B as level three fire power. It is a control list that can actually pack a major punch.

By the way, if you give Jim too many compliments, then at league we will never hear the end of it.  ;) He will already be on top of the world when he walks in tonight. Much deserved mind you.

  13. I agree with Doug on this one. Cut out the byes all together and give more Swag to the regional championship winner at the regional site. One of the problems that will come up at regionals will be the store champion winners that get a bye at regionals. The byes skew the system too much which causes either more rounds added, or screw up who should make the top16/8/4 depending on regional size. Since regionals are store sponsored events, I am sure the TO's would rather have easier than harder while running the events.
