So does Veers, he has Sharpshooter 1.
    With far worse defense die.
If you mean Inspire, than yeah, no arguing here.
Debatable, i'd say different. Leia is more restricted in that she needs to get 3 targets in LOS instead of 1, and is kind of useless against vehicles. Veers with aim can put some serious dent into an enemy vehicle early on. And 4 dmg on an enemy ATRT, which is not impossible, outright cripples it.
What are you doing in melee with either of them?
And this cost is significant, actually. Range 2 is that much closer of being sabered or Maser of Evil'ed. Or both.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Leia is bad - quite contrary, she's great! However, so is Veers. While they seem comparable, I believe they will play quite differently, as others above have stated  Veers is much less mobile, and will feel most comfortably sitting back with two HH12 units, while other, more self-sufficient units go to the front lines. Leia is more mobile, and will likely be in more risk, closer to front lines.

That was struck down because Hobbie is alive in the old Legends books. Unless Disney suddenly said “we will keep that novel but throw these others out”. That novelization and the Xwing books should be on equal standing as “legends” unless Disney is pulling a fast one.

ergo, until Disney tells me otherwise both Hobbie and Veers survived Hoth.

You add an extra trooper with heavy weapon to the unit. You can add him to either small unit, making it 4 regular troopers and fifth with either DLT19 or HH12, or you can add him to a unit that you also equipped with extra stormtrooper, making that unit 5 regular and 1 heavy troopers.

Shanturin got a reaction from Big Easy in Armada Refugees Check-In
I wouldn't call myself a refugee - I'm simply multitasking. A key to victory is coordination between all ranks of military. Surely, I started as fighter wing captain, then got promoted to an admiral, and I find myself often in a simulator (i.e. casual game) than in a real dogfight (X-wing tournament), unless the need for skilled pilots is dire (the tournament is big enough). While my duties as admiral are quite time-consuming I do regularly engage in practice maneuvers and keep my sector under control with occasional skirmishes and bigger operations. Recently, there has been some unrest on a few nearby planet and I plan to react swiftly, sending in my best troopers, both assigned to my fleet by the Army, Special Forces and my own. I definitely will be leading those troops myself, as I believe to lead by example, no matter the scale of conflict. I'm a Rebel, after all

In other words, I playing X-wing since just a few days after Gencon '12, and engaged heavily into both casual and tournament playing, as well as judging and organizing events both big and small, heavy focusing on game promotion on local 'cons. Yet these days are over, at least until X-wing 2.0 comes out. Because X-wing  was a test ground for some new ideas thet FFG had, it also accumulated most flaws and design mistakes that are increasingly harder to fix. Also, the actual inability to successfully fly an X-wing in X-wing pulled me away from the game. I still play it and it's still a fun game, just not as much as it once was, and it needs some heavy reworking at this point.

As for Armada, I set my eyes on this game from the very beginning.  I adore it, it's almost everything I ever wanted form a tabletop strategy game. Yet due to financial issues I got into the game with slight delay, and until recently there was little to no community in my area, so it was hard to line up games and the closest tournaments were held almost 20o miles away. Things are much better now

And there is Legion - I planned to approach this game slowly, see how it develop, but man... this game's AWESOME!

So, it's gonna be equal time Armada and Legion for me, with occasional X-wing like once a month perhaps

Shanturin got a reaction from Ghost Dancer in Commanders 2nd Generation - No Pierce Immunity
Well, in order to be significantly cheaper, the new commanders had to be significantly less powerful in some areas than Luke and Vader. Those areas turned out to be offense and defense, as new commanders support their armies as good, if not better, than existing ones. Neither Veers nor Leia come close to Vader's and Luke's destructive melee prowess, and even with Esteemed Leader they are waaay more squishy than core set commanders. The lack of immunity to anything, really, is just cherry on top of their vulnerability cake
I also believe that "lore" reason for Vader and Luke having Immunity: Pierce is that they both have lightsabers.

So yeah, if you want them to stay alive, you need to keep them further back. And without threat of your Luke/Vader countering, your opponent's force user will feel more free to roam the battlefield wrecking havoc - but hey, that's called opportunity cost
That's why I believe that we won't experience a sudden disappearance of Vader once Veers is out. He's still a viable choice, and with less chance to find someone to oppose him on the other side, he'll truly shine.

As for future commanders - I think some further force users are inevitable, but them using lightsabers is not that certain (i don't think we'll see Old Ben commander soon, so prime candidate for saber-wielding unit will be the Grand Inquisitor).

It was stated in another e-mail by Alex (to be found on FB legion group) that BM does not override the "one token per unit" part of the rules and that it would be clarified in FAQ. Obviously this is due to poor wording of Battle Meditation, but it seems that RAI was to overcome unit type and range restrictions only.

That said, if someone would enforce RAW by placing a second token on a unit that already has one, then yes, he would actually break the game as the activation phase couldn't end. I believe it would be deemed unsporting conduit by most TO's and would result in such player being removed from an event

He also secures any objective he sets his eyes on. He also prevents your troops from panicking. He can also kill Luke/enemy Vader and sent enemy troopers fleeing with Master of Evil. He also allows Stormtroopers to push for objective/better chances to kill with New Ways to Motivate them.

And maybe that the one trooper unit he killed was the one holding the objective.

This game is not about killing stuff, it about securing objectives. Sure, to do that you'll likely have to kill some stuff. And Vader is THE best area denial piece in the game where you usually have to control certain areas to score/claim objectives. The only objectives where he's not great is Breakthrough, but you can use him to defend your own deployment

That's honestly the best Legion battle report I've read so far. Its well written, informative and most importantly, enjoyable to read. The "fluff inserts" actually made me care for those poor Imperials under the threat of falling into Vaders disgrace. I cheered for 1 Troopers after they successfully assaulted Wedge with their Grenades and laughed at the cowardice of panicking Rebels.

And I do play Rebel Alliance exclusively, mind you.

All in all, great job and I'd love to see more!

One thing to keep in mind is that the threat of a command card is often as effective as the actual card. The game changes a lot when you’ve already played both of your 1-pips, for example. Likewise, the threat of Master of Evil can really make the Rebel player think about where to put his troopers and where to put Luke.

Some of the OP arguments has been contested already (not overthrown, mind you!), I just want to add my two cents.

An issue of Assault vs. Standing Orders came up during my last game. My opponent had an ATRT with lascannon, Luke, T47 an a bunch of troops. He played Assault for a greater control of the battlefield (he issued orders to 3 obvious targets. I had Luke, 3 atrts and a bunch of troops and chose to assign an order to one of my ATRT's. We had an equal number of activations.
Neither of us regrets the decision. Each way has it's uses, pros and cons. Some arguments for using SO are:

    1. Greater flexibility in later turns. Sure, there's little difference between Push and Assault come turn 5-6, but there is a difference between Push and SO (if you dropped Assault early). If I end up with Assault in hand at the end then, well, guess I didn't need it.
    2. Depending on your list, you may have a different number of key units that you want to go last. It is usually lower in Rebels than in Empire. Rebels key unit is usually T47 speeder, or one of the ATRT's since Luke usually can go without an order on turn 1 provided he has a LOS blocking piece of terrain. Turn two he can just jump over it and be on his merry murdering spree  Empire has more units that want to go last, due to their fragility or slow movement (in this case to better react to the opponent): usually Vader and two or more Speeder units. In this case SO is probably not the best idea.
    3. Going last - obviously it connects to point 2, and obviously works only if you have the same or greater number of activations in your list. Still, if you can pull it off, it has a potential to be huge.

I believe this will change when Veers and Leia will be out, since they both have 1pip cards with a great potential to be played early on, as early as turn 1 if there's no Limited Visibility condition in play.

    Comparing the various cards;
Ambush lets you pick the most important unit on the field to activate when you want it to, and the orders can come from either commander. This is a lot less restrictive than being forced to use your Commander. I suspect Ambush will probably stay in people's hands.
The 2-pip command cards order powerful benefits compared to Push, but can only activate one type of unit. How restrictive this is depends on the makeup of your non-core units. If you only have troopers, most of the commands are great (And conversely, Evasive Maneuvers is obviously not getting used). Evasive Maneuvers makes your vehicles hardier, but isn't much use if you absolutely need your Commanders doing things. I suspect Push will get pushed out often (pun intend), but Combined Arms lists may still want the flexibility Push offers, and a Vader + Veers infantry list obviously wants nothing to do with evasive maneuvers (We probably won't see such a thing until the special forces hit, though).
Assault feels like it's pretty outclassed by the 3-pip cards, which are flexible and offer powerful effects. The only thing that Assault has going for it (Unless you really need to give orders to all 3 Speeder Bikes/AT-RTs) is that it can come from either commander, which is handy if you need to split your forces.

To clarify, my point is that when terrain completely blocks LOS it is deemed to provide heavy cover regardless of the type of cover that was agreed upon before the game. Refer to @Shanturin‘s quoted line. Yes, you are right, cover applies at the unit level. I was loose with my language. I should have said that a mini out of LOS is behind heavy cover. Not has heavy cover.
So in @DerBaer‘s example, the unit has heavy cover.
Yes, of course. LOS to a mini is a requirement to perform an attack.

So overweight them with grenades  Concussion ones are great for wiping that one last guy camping near objective in heavy cover. Or swap one Z6 for another MPL, then go for Rotary on ATRT.

You can also make some more significant changes:

Drop: all extra troopers, all scopes, Wedge, long range comlink
    Reduce: ATRT lascannon to rotary
    Add: another ATRT with rotary

Luke's Battle Meditation shall suffice to issue order to the odd unit that escapes his usual range.

Exactly that! I've learned that it's best not to overweight your Corps with upgrades, just take more of them.

Also, I believe that in time you'll drop Wedge - the better you get with T47, the less you need him.

I believe you know this, but the OP might not, so to avoid confusion:

The rules actually does not allow you to build your force without a commander - you need at least 1. Without the Commander-type unit, required by army building rules you cannot build a hand of command cards, as each card can be picked only once, you need 7 of them and only 4 are not connected to a specific commander unit (i.e. you have to get that specific commander to include them, and he/she has to be on the table for you to play them). The promotion rules are there to explain how issuing commands works while all of your commanders are dead. Then again, in friendly games one can do as one wishes, as long as he has his/hers opponent's consent.

With that in mind, one game is hardly any proof for anything

I'm hearing it for like a hundredth time and I still don't get it. Luke's two attacks gets an average of 4 hits on Vader (assuming Luke had Aim and Vader had Dodge). That's not nothing, but nowhere near killing Vader. I'm not saying it's impossible, I just never saw it and thus have a hard time imagining it.
    Do that.
