For me it’s that moment when you get it right and dodge your opponent’s arcs with your manouvre alone.

I'm going to have to disagree hard, right here.

Template movement is the only reason the "fog of war" is possible.

One of the most fundamental elements of Runewars is that players must commit a unit to a particular course of action before the game round starts, and this wouldn't work at all without movement templates. They remove *virtually* all guesswork and player fudging from the movement process, conforming units to a common set of possible maneuvers that can then be modified with other templates, restrictions, and allowances.

Furthermore, there is a distinct element of realism to the movement template. I don't know if you've ever marched in formation before, but it's remarkably difficult to get a big group of people all moving in the same direction while maintaining anything like organization or coherency. In order to allow this, formation marching involves executing a series of commonly understood maneuvers that conform, generally, to the array of movement templates in Runewars.

Ranks and files do not react quickly, they do not turn on a dime, and they do not allow for complex moves when the guys sandwiched in the middle don't know what the guys in front are doing. In short, it adds EVERYTHING to a rank and file combat game to make ranks and files move like ranks and files.

    EDIT: for accuracy

Not unexpected, but a shame.  Still, we should be happy that we are considered in the same breath as a game that has been hugely popular since the 1980s and until recently was the biggest minis game going.

2, 3, the high PS bit of 9 and I play in an area that is super casual so a lot of the time in order to get games I’m running a list that contains only one ship with the load-out that will make it to my competitive lists.  Often the rest of the list is deliberately bad (when I was trying out Rey I mostly ran her with R2 Astromech Poe doing a bad Soontir impression for example).  I do occasionally get to play practice games with another competative player, and we run those on Listener principals, but not nearly enough.

I think we just hit irreconcilable cultural differences.  I’ve certainly never had a problem with the depiction of religion in either the Old World or the Dark Millennium and find the Imperial Guard as a parody of WWI, the Zulu Wars, Vietnam, etc both amusing and insightful.
Regardless, I am very pleased with Rune Wars getting regognition and enjoy the heroic fantasy of Terrinoth too.  I’m very much of the opinion that we’re playing the best rank & file fantasy war game on the market today.

On the subject of Phantom crew, have we seen Ol’ Muttonchops for 2.0 yet?

I think we're talking about different things? In 1.0, 35 point Soontir would always want to take Stealth Device rather than Hull/Shield since it generated so much more value, regardless of how he was flown. The stacked dice mods made a theoretically high variance upgrade into flat out the right choice. However, if the only way for Stealth Device to get better performance than Hull/Shield was through maneuvering/situational use (say using it as a meta call as a way to tech against attack 2 swarms) then I'm 100% there for it.

Can you put both a shield upgrade and afterburners on a /IN now?

I agree, a Lone Wolf Soontir with Stealth Device as a flanker sounds pretty good. You’d need a real hammer to make your opponent not want to just chase Soonts though.  Supernatural Vader?

At the same time it shouldn’t automatically be the wrong choice.  I want upgrades to be legitimate choices, strong in some cases, weak in others.  If we’re just changing what is binder fodder I don’t think 2.0 could be considered a Great Leap Forward.

If it’s generating value above and beyond a shield/hull value in a competitive environment either high variance should be involved or the person playing it should be playing to maximise it’s chances of being effective (managing range & cover from incoming shots for example).  That to me sounds like out playing your opponent, and if being out played is an NPE for you then big tournaments are full of opportunities to get an NPE.

Gods no, I hadn’t heard you could put two mods on a /IN in 2.0.  So Shield Upgrade vs Stealth vs Afterburners, choose 2?  That sounds like the sort of decision I want to have to make.

I wish there was more "krayt" style podcasts for other things... I'd love an Overwatch podcast with the same levels of degeneracy, or a music production podcast that acts like baboons but secretly has all the best insights. they probably exist... I just don't know about them.
what hooked me onto the Krayts was when @Brunas stated back in the early days "your anger makes my **** harder"

I think the device space is really interesting.  There are a lot of upgrades that could conceivably be devices rather than mods.  It’ll be fascinating to see how that evolves.
